Caesar pleads guilty but fails to fall on sword

CAM-MWDRIVER

Caesar Michael Williams has today plead guilty to drink driving with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit:

HOWICK Local Board chairman Michael Williams has been convicted of drink-driving after pleading guilty to the charge when appearing in the Auckland District Court today.

The 47-year-old was initially due to appear at a defended hearing in the Manukau District Court on March 1 charged with driving with excess breath alcohol and refusing to accompany a police officer.

His lawyer, Karen Harding, told the court her client’s defence included the fact the incident “ended up being on private property”, and that once that was resolved with police the second charged was dropped.  Read more »

Move to push Caesar Williams aside

It is all on again in Howick, Michael Williams is refusing to step aside while he faces drink driving charges. The move comes after his attempted putsch against Adele White failed after a large public gathering openly mocked his attempt.

CAM-MWDRIVER

AN ATTEMPT to have Michael Williams take a leave of absence as Howick Local Board chairman while he awaits a court appearance for drink-driving will be made tonight.

Elected member Lucy Schwaner intends to bring up the issue in extraordinary business at the board’s monthly meeting.

“I’ll try and get board support to encourage Michael to take leave of absence,” she says. “Michael has said he remains in the chair at the pleasure of the board. He’s not willing to make a decision either way, so we have to pursue other means.”

Apart from deputy-chair Adele White, who Mr Williams attempted to oust last month, and Ms White’s other supporter David Collings, Ms Schwaner says there has been no mention to her of the drink-driving charge by any of the other members. “It’s as if it doesn’t exist.”  Read more »

Maybe Michael Williams should move to Ireland

Michael Williams is a disgrace, not only did he fail in his attempt to oust Adele White, but he is also before the courts on drink driving and failing to accompany the Police charges.

After his rinsing on Monday night I would have thought he would step down, but he hasn’t.

CAM-MWBULLY

He did manage to cancel a drinks session though, as David Farrar reveals in a leaked email. He neglected to tell everyone that the urgent incident was his complete embarrassment before the citizens of Howick on monday night.

I do have an idea for him though…he could emigrate…to Ireland…they seem to have laws that are pretty friendly for politicians like him:

Councillors in rural Ireland have come up with a novel way of tackling the problem of drink-driving – make it legal. Read more »

Sledge of the Day

Last night Adele White won against Michael Williams ill-conceived attack. She made an impassioned speech where she delivered the sledge of the day.

She finished up her speech with an outstanding sledge where she referred to fellow board member Shirley Warren’s previous role as Michael Williams’ play centre teacher. She said she was sorry to tell Mrs Warren that she didn’t do a good job with Mr Williams because “He doesn’t share his toys and he doesn’t play nicely.”

The crowd roared with approval.  Read more »

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum, Caesar got rinsed

Last night was a delight to behold politically, deep in Pakuranga. I haven’t enjoyed a political meeting like that in quite sometime.

A tin pot dictator got rinsed. It took three hours but the momentum through the night built and built and built and still the dictator tried it on…only in the face of certain defeat did he through in the towel and move to remove the motion from the paper…a gutless cowardly end to a night of even more gutlessness and cowardice from Michael Williams and his band of dupes.

In the end Caesar was in fact stabbed by Brutus, as I predicted.

The evening started by a move of venue. The original venue was too small and was inundated by 5:30pm. Eventually around 200 people showed up to witness a good old-fashioned political shellacking.  Read more »

Caesar Michael Williams facing court for Drunk Driving

Oh dear me look at what Michael Williams has been hiding from councillors as he makes his powerplay to dump Adele White from the Deputy Chair role at the Howick Local Board.

"This is where the alcohol rehab centre is going. You can be patient number one."

“This is where the alcohol rehab centre is going. You can be patient number one Michael”

A local politician from a leafy, well-to-do village has been charged with drink-driving and refusing to accompany a police officer.

Michael Williams, a chartered accountant and the Howick Local Board chairman, faces a defended hearing at the Manukau District Court on March 1.

Williams was charged after the roadside incident in May but has kept the matter from his board members amid his bid to replace deputy chairwoman Adele White, who is also a senior police constable.

Williams is charged with being more than twice the legal limit with a reading of 169ml of alcohol per litre of blood, and refusing to accompany a police officer in Auckland on May 10.

For a so-called pillar of the community those are serious charges. Particularly refusing to accompany a police officer…which is polite legal speak for “got himself arrested”. The penalty for that is up to a $4500 fine as determined by the courtRead more »

The Michael Williams bully train rolls on, now he is hiring security guards

Phil Taylor at The Howick and Pakuranga Times has written another article about the bully boy tactics of Michael Williams.

Williams is trying to get rid of local stalwart Adele White from her position at Local Board Deputy Chair so he can install a person of his own choosing.

He is ignoring the will of the board who voted for Adele as Deputy and now in election year he is trying the petty politics as a way to prefer his mate Jim Donald ahead of the elections in November.

Monday night’s special meeting to demote or retain Adele White (Independent) as deputy-chair has been called by chairman Michael Williams (Citizens & Ratepayers), Wayne Huang (C&R), Steve Udy (C&R), Shirley Warren (C&R) and Jim Donald (Team Howickian), and is costing money – on the ratepayers. They have not explained themselves publicly, offering no comments.  Read more »

Pie eating bully boy Michael Williams still at it

Pie gobbling bully boy Michael Williams would like to think he is the unofficial Mayor of Howick, but his bully boy tactics at trying to get his mate appointed to the role of deputy chair on the local board just smacks of kindergarten level politics.

Bombastic as ever, Michael Williams is refusing to buckle to public pressure and using bizarre excuses in his quest to have a deputy who doesn’t disagree with his every edict.

The Howick and Pakuranga Times is covering this debacle blow by blow.

ADELE White is standing firm in the face of efforts to sack her from the Howick Local Board deputy-chair position.

Board chairman Michael Williams has requested an extraordinary meeting of the board for next Monday, when elected members will be asked to vote to retain or depose her.

Ms White told the Times last month she was shocked when Mr Williams asked her to resign as deputy-chair, as he has another member in mind for the job.

She refused, so he’s called the special meeting in the attempt to remove her and elect a new deputy.

“My position has not changed,” says Ms White. “I’m still extremely shocked at this turn of events and refuse to be treated this way for exercising my democratic rights.

Michael Williams reasoning an explanations do not hold water. Lucy Schwaner calls him out:

“We live in a democracy, one where elected officials are expected to debate matters and contest each other’s ideas.

“Michael might struggle with Adele being a strong woman, who is capable of expressing herself. But that’s no reason to bully her out of the deputy-chair position.

“We were never elected to the Howick Local Board for the purpose of following Michael Williams at all times. A chairperson should welcome debate and contestability of ideas, not attempt to punish those that disagree.”

Michael Williams claims that Adele White can’t do her job because she is also a police officer…a bizarre claim since he too holds down a full time job:

Mr Williams writes because of Ms White’s limited availability in business hours – she’s a senior police constable and Counties Manukau East Police’s youth education officer, and a celebrant, a system evolved early on of sharing civic duties among board members.

He now wants the deputy to be available to meet with him and council staff during business hours and provide key support in the events, Maori affairs and ethnic affairs portfolios.

He also wants to expand the deputy role, including providing him (chairman) with advice on critical issues and an overview of projects, helping to make things happen and maintain good board communication and strategic relationship management and sharing in civic duties.

Ms Schwaner says Mr Williams’ attitude to members maintaining other employment is hypocritical, while he’s employed by a large firm.

“If Michael is genuinely concerned about the workload he’s carrying, I suggest he might want to look first at his own situation,” she says.

“While he chooses to target Adele for her long-standing role as a community constable, he has secondary employment in a senior private sector role.

There is plenty more to come on this. I think I will trundle along on Monday night to enjoy the bun fight.

Michael Williams though seems to be in need os some one to stand against him and hold him to account on a public platform, someone he can’t bully and push around. I might just do that this year.

Michael Williams bullying Local Board members

The Howick and Pakuranga Times has a story about Michael Williams and his bully boy tactics to run the deputy chair out of town:

AN ATTEMPT to topple local body politician Adele White from her deputy-chair position has “shocked” her and some of her colleague elected members.

The Howick Local Board deputy chair says she was stunned when, last Thursday, chairman Michael Williams asked her to resign as he had another member in mind for the job.

When the Times asked Mr Williams why he had made the request of Ms White, he said: “This is a matter before the board and I will not be commenting at this time.”

The issue may come up at next Monday’s board meeting when a date to debate Mr Williams’ request could be set.

Ms White says Mr Williams told her she didn’t always agree with him and he needed someone to bounce ideas off.

He also said because of her full-time employment responsibilities, she couldn’t fulfil the role of deputy. She’s a senior police constable and Counties Manukau East Police’s youth education officer.

“This was the first time in two years he [Mr Williams] had brought up the subject,” Ms White told the Times.

Sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander, the saying goes.

So since we are talking about resignations from political office, is there anything Michael Williams has hidden from the voters of Howick that might call into account his ability to serve the voters professionally and with integrity – anything at all?

Perhaps he would like to describe his experiences visiting a Police station in April?
