Crow's illegally-parked billboard not towed for three days

Crow's illegally-parked billboard not towed for three daysControversial mayoral candidate Steve Crow left a truck laden with a campaign billboard on Queen St without putting money in the parking meter for at least two days.
But the tow trucks were called only after the Auckland City Council…
[Auckland News]

Mayoral candidates seem to think breaking by-laws and electoral laws is just fine by them. Hubbard has been officially warned, why he isn't being prosecuted is beyond me, perhaps it is because the police are inept. Crow has brokenn two by-laws, first parking across three spaces and not putting anything in the meter for two days, secondly the stupid billboard by-laws. Actually good on him for breaching the stupid billboard by-laws.

Do as I say not as I do

‘Ban billboards’ supporter removes her own billboard – 04 Sep 2007 – NZ Herald: New Zealand National news

In typical socialist fashion Glenda Fryer has been caught in a classic “Do as I say, not as I do” situation where she has been annoying her neighbours with her billboard for reelection in her front yard.

Glenda Fryer led the anti-billboard charge but of course now she has blotted the landscape with heaps of her reg and green City Vision hoardings.

There is a word for that and it starts with H.

Brilliant Viral Video

A good friend sent me this viral video. It is brilliant, not only for sticking it to Hubbard but also the nanny state. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Billboard ban dead

The stupid proposed billboard ban in Auckland City is dead and almost buried .

The panel heard from 500 verbal submitters and received more than 1700 written submissions, the majority of which opposed the plan. They will now recommend that existing billboards remain.

A victory for sensibility

This comment says it all

This comment made to Dick Hubbard as he sat in on the Billboard submissions hearing says it all about the stupid lefty proposal to ban billboards.
"It is an abuse of the law-making process for the council to confiscate rights without compensation and or destroy the democratic right to express one's view on billboards whether it be commercial or non-commercial."
Exactly, and what sort of compensation might the council be facing?

Owners of one apartment building get $100,000 a year through leasing to one of the biggest billboards in the central city.

Ouch!, that is a lot of moolah to essentially have confiscated for no compensation. Now magnafy that by the 346 sites around Auckland and you start to see the stupidity of this plan.

The billboard campaign hots up

If you didn’t think the billboard industry has any clout think again. They have now enlisted their customers into the billboard battle.

H2go is running a campaign on 12 billboards and about 200 bus shelters around Auckland.

They contain messages encouraging people to squirt everyone from friends to parking wardens and each target is given a point value.

People are encouraged to video their attacks and send them to a special website.

Squirting Glenda Fryer carries 1000 points. Glenda Fryer is chairing the council’s commission on controversial plans to remove many billboards from the city centre.

It will only get worse councillors, this is called controlled escalation and you can’t win.

Anyway I’ve heard Glenda Fryer enjoys a good squirting.
