NBR covered launch of Kill the Bill campaign

Irony?

Is it just me?

Perhaps, but I find it very ironic that the left are rallying behind pro-democracy protesters in Burma and at the same time trying to shout down our fight to retain free speech in New Zealand.

Now at least the monks are putting their lives on the line for what they believe in, the only thing the leftist lickspittles baying at us about our stance against the Electoral Finance Bill believe in is that the left is always right especially if Helen says they are.

Not one of them has even laid out a single sane and reasoned argument as to why the EFB should be even contemplated as it stands. Not one of them has justified the egregious way in which it has been handled with no public consultation.

They just shout and scream and fail to present any logic in defense of the indefensible.

They deny any relevance to the arguments that the Human Rights Commission and the Law Society and hundreds of disparate Kiwi's from PhilU to me have provided against stinking ,dirty, corruption of a bill, the worst assault on our fundamental freedoms in a democracy we have ever seen.

Meanwhile we are all supposed to jump in line and support Burmese protestors. The only person stupider than Sonic, Tane and all the other hypocrites, who if they lived in Burma and criticised would be shot, is Winston Peters, the ultimatehypocrite.

He had this stupid thing to say;
"Myanmarese authorities must respect the legitimate right of its people to engage in peaceful protest, and refrain from unwarranted or violent acts of repression."
Dick head, they are a Military Dictatorship, they don't respect any legitimacy or any rights, if they did they wouldn't be in charge would they.

However my complete disdain for Winston worsens when he is the poodle supporting the banning of free speech and the setting up of a register of dissenters which could very easily lead to "unwarranted acts of repression" and a search and seizure regime that smashes down normal legal processes.

If you don't believe me I give you two words as proof of the governments unwarranted acts of repression, "Exclusive Brethren".

The back down has started

Just Left: If I were on the Justice and Electoral Committee

Jordan whilst on his sojourn to Belgium has decided to post a little missive about the draconian Electoral Finance Bill.

Now one would expect Jordan to take up where he left of with the statement in his previous post about this anti-free speech bill, where he said “Anyone who opposes it in substance is essentially saying, “I want New Zealand to retain electoral finance laws that mean elections can be bought by the people with the biggest wallets”, but no Jordan has started the official “we wuz only joking” explanation of the how to change the bill to try to make it more palatable.

If Herr Rottenfuhurer Jordan, well known lickspittle, toady and apologist of the Labour Party has decided that the bill need serious changes it can only be days away from Clark deciding to pull the bill.

that remains my position. Kill the Bill.

Justice minister is a danger to democracy

MATTHEW HOOTON: Justice minister is a danger to democracy – Sunday Star-Times – Sunday Star-Times

Matthew Hooton describes the travesty that is the Electoral Finance Bill.
Under Labour’s Electoral Finance Bill, New Zealand will become one of those countries where citizens can be sent to jail for distributing too many pamphlets – and where the police can enter our homes if they suspect we intend anything so subversive.

The legislation -developed in secret by Justice Minister Mark Burton under the guidance of Labour’s election strategist Pete Hodgson – does nothing to stop a repeat of the 2005 pledge card rort or the anonymous donations and secret trusts that Helen Clark once said were so undemocratic. She’s now decided she needs them.

Nor is the legislation about pamphlets that spread malicious gossip about our politicians, or those saying “Vote National”, “Vote Labour” or “Don’t Vote Green”. Nor even is it about dodgy pamphlets that hide the identity of their publisher. Our existing law deals with all these issues, if only our police would enforce it.

Burton’s legislation is far broader. It restricts almost every expression of opinion, on any topic about which a politician has stated a view, by people who declare who they are, where they live, how much they’re spending and who is funding them.
This bill is the greatest attack on our civil liberties bar none. Mark Burton is just the chosen patsy to deliver this bill, The Hollow Woman, Cullen and Hodgson are the prime movers behind this little trampling of democracy.

Toxic shit fight at Frog Blog

frogblog » Election finance reform spin

Russel Norman put up a post at Frog Blog and promptly started copping flak from erstwhile members and opponents likewise.

It is not often that I agree with Phil U, in fact I can’t remember a single instance, however Phil is probably one of the more principled supporters of the left in that he really, really does believe what he says and stands up for it unwaveringly. Anyway i agree with almost everything that Phil U has been saying on the thread and DPF also sticks in his views. Here is an example of Phil’s over punctuated but nevertheless accurate comments;
you are trying to regulate ‘ideas’/ideals russel..

and do you have some deep-seated fear of the lack of potency of your/green messages/arguments..?

that leaves you so impotent in the face of rightwing bullsh*t..?

that you want/plan to regulate to close that chatter/’free-speech’ down..?

(yet..all the while doing absolutely nothing about the rivers of anonymous monies that flow into/influence the main political parties..?..

do you have aspirations of diverting a little stream of that river flowing the way of both labour annd national..

towards the greens..?

for the life of me..i cannot see any other reasons..save some craven obesience to the labour party leadership..?

and um..!..have any ‘off-the-record’ promises been made to you/the greens in exchange for support..?

y’know..ministerial positions..?

the gold rings at the top of that slippery pole you have been sliding up and down for ..quite some time now..to no avail..

we could understand the temptations..

(but hey..!..psstt!!..the election..?..credibility..?..)

there’s ‘the rub’..eh..?
Russel tries valiantly to defend the indefensible but is on a hiding to nothing supporting this anti-democratic dog’s breakfast of legislation.

Good on Phil U for defending free speech so vociferously, I may have to buy him a beer.

Stephen Franks on the assault against Free Speech

StephenFranks.co.nz » Blog Archive » Free speech during elections

Stephen Franks has written an erudite piece on the travesty that is the Electoral Finance Bill. This Bill must be opposed at all levels and he draws attention that the worst offenders after the government in psuhing this bill are the MSM by not reporting the travesty it is.
The politicians responsible for this are suppressing challenges by pesky independent groups. Groups like Sensible Sentencing, Greenpeace, Federated Farmers, Forest and Bird, Manufacturers Federation, the teacher unions, doctor organisations, the RSA must be stopped from developing policy and urging parties to endorse it, then urging voters to support or oppose parties accordingly. Under the corrupt gang now drafting our law all those groups will be gagged at election time.

“But they are still free to speak” say the censors. ” It is only unauthorised leafletting and paid advertising they can’t do. They can be reported by the media”. And so we get to the nub of it. The media, so quick to trumpet their committment to freedom to report as they like from the House, have been suspiciously quiet on election spending.

Because when the people are not allowed to communicate in their own words, directly to their fellow citizens, they can only communicate through the media filter. And so the journalists decide what the election is fought on. They control how things are reported. The news editors of TV 1 and TV3 decide whether the election issues will be smacking, or GM corn, or Iraq or politicisation of the public service.

The current left wing thinks it will not matter that its allies are nominally muzzled. They are confident that the conscious or subconscious bias of their politically correct media ”co-religionists” will control the agenda anyway.
This bill must be fought. It gives the government of the day the licence to make laws without dissent in Election year. If the Section 59 bill had been presented and debated in election year then all the efforts of the lobby groups against it would have been banned or curtailed and the subsequent damage as the government rode roughshod over the wishes of the populace would have been minimised when the only voice able to speak was the governments.

Where are the libertarians, where is ACT and where is the media on this issue?

It is official, our government is against freedom of speech. These laws will be oppopsed with vigor and malice. I will blog on this more later today when i can get my head around them totally.

Suffice to say there will be mass breaking of laws on my part.

Chinese meddling bars reporter again

Journalist banned again – Newstalk ZB

Nick Wang has again been barred from covering an event, this time at a publicly advertised Forum which was discussing China where Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yuanyuan was speaking.

Mr Wang says organisers informed him it was a private function, despite the fact it had been advertised. He says he knows of other people who attended the event without invitations being required.

Someone needs to tell these Chinese wankers, that NZ is a democracy and they are visitors here.

Labour backs another dead horse

It is clear from the latest One News poll that Labour's previous excellent skill at picking of horses to ride has deserted it.

The latest Dead Horse the Labour punters have backed was the Funding of political Parties from the public purse.

Of those surveyed 70% of people do not believe taxpayers' money should be used to help fund election campaigns. But more than 80% believe parties should have to declare where their campaign funding comes from. Just 16% believe otherwise.

That is fine by me.

Of course Labour will just plough ion regardless doing the typical socialist thing of telling all and sundry that they know best.

There is of course more bad nes in their attempt to restrict freedom of speech with their funding plans.

Of those surveyed 39% say those rules for third party advertising should be stricter, 15% believe the rules are fine as they are and 46% believe groups outside parliament should be able to advertise their political views any way they like.

Ahh the good old New Zealand public huh!! Who would've thought they can see a rort? Labour certainly didn't. They have a bad case of Third Termitis and I'm afraid that it appears terminal.

I mean after backing the anti-smacking bill when 85% of Kiwis oppose it, then trying to rort some funding when 70% oppose that as well just shows how out of touch they have become.
