Nine years and now it’s urgent?
Labour have released their police and corrections policy. Once again it promises more unfunded spending:
Labour says it will fund 145 police constables in its first year in office and get rid of single-officer stations.
Law and order spokesman Clayton Cosgrove announced his party’s police and corrections policy this morning.
He said Labour was committed to doubling staff in one-person stations, should they win in November.
“Labour is deeply conscious of the safety risks police face in their jobs every day. There is no way to ensure the safety of individual officers, but that doesn’t mean governments shouldn’t do everything they can to minimise risks.”
The role of sole-charge police officers in remote rural areas has come under scrutiny after a series of violent attacks.
If Labour was so deeply conscious of the safety risk police face why did they not move to do something about sole charge officers when they had nine years in power. Cosgrove and Labour are once again out to lunch on law and order. No wonder Labour never gives any questions to Cosgrove in the house anymore.
