Quote of the Day – Steven Joyce

Transport Minister Steven Joyce said the project appeared to be plagued by taniwha.

“It does not massively surprise me,” he said. “Treasury found a few fiscal taniwhas as well, so it doesn’t surprise me that another one has turned up.”

Len Brown so deserved a taniwha.

Watching him extricate himself out of this without appeasing the taniwha with truckloads of our cash will be hilarious. Watching the greenies who push for the trains decide to kill a taniwha for their trainset will be even more hilarious.

Climate Chains

Climate Chains from Climate Chains on Vimeo.

An Epic debate is underway in our country. Proposed climate legislation would have a far-reaching impact on your standard of living and give government a portal into every aspect of our lives. The affordable, dependable and abundant energy upon which any great civilization is build is about to be rationed. Climate Chains is our effort to engage the culture, to petition a more reasoned approach to the intellectual debate that to often gets lost or overlooked in the irrational rush to pass climate legislation in an atmosphere of national and global panic. When you’ve built the greatest civilization in human history, fundamental changes in the economics of that system must be made with the most sober of consideration.

What happened to global warming?

Unbelievably that is the headline from a BBC report.

This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.

But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.

So what on Earth is going on?

Well, what has always been going on until Mann faked his hockey stick and the lies began.

Climate change sceptics, who passionately and consistently argue that man’s influence on our climate is overstated, say they saw it coming.

They argue that there are natural cycles, over which we have no control, that dictate how warm the planet is. But what is the evidence for this?

The sceptics, so called “deniers” have always said that the planet warmed for a period, but not through human intervention, now we are saying the planet is cooling but the real deniers are the warmists who say the trend is still up.

What is really interesting at the moment is what is happening to our oceans. They are the Earth’s great heat stores.

Pacific ocean (BBC)
In the last few years [the Pacific Ocean] has been losing its warmth and has recently started to cool down

According to research conducted by Professor Don Easterbrook from Western Washington University last November, the oceans and global temperatures are correlated.

The oceans, he says, have a cycle in which they warm and cool cyclically. The most important one is the Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO).

For much of the 1980s and 1990s, it was in a positive cycle, that means warmer than average. And observations have revealed that global temperatures were warm too.

But in the last few years it has been losing its warmth and has recently started to cool down.

These cycles in the past have lasted for nearly 30 years.

So could global temperatures follow? The global cooling from 1945 to 1977 coincided with one of these cold Pacific cycles.

Professor Easterbrook says: “The PDO cool mode has replaced the warm mode in the Pacific Ocean, virtually assuring us of about 30 years of global cooling.”

Nah sucks boo to you! Childish, I know, but it is what I have said all along, the Earth goes through cycles, the warmists deny all this and continue to say that the trend is up when demonstrably and measurably it is not. The warmists however continue to deny the evidence instead pointing to their increasingly proven flawed models.

The UK Met Office’s Hadley Centre, responsible for future climate predictions, says it incorporates solar variation and ocean cycles into its climate models, and that they are nothing new.

In fact, the centre says they are just two of the whole host of known factors that influence global temperatures – all of which are accounted for by its models.

In addition, say Met Office scientists, temperatures have never increased in a straight line, and there will always be periods of slower warming, or even temporary cooling.

What is crucial, they say, is the long-term trend in global temperatures. And that, according to the Met office data, is clearly up.

Do they think we are idiots? Of course those things happen, it is called a CYCLE. But apart from the now widely discredited Mann hockey stick I have seen no evidence to prove categorically that the trend is up.

To confuse the issue even further, last month Mojib Latif, a member of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) says that we may indeed be in a period of cooling worldwide temperatures that could last another 10-20 years.

Professor Latif is based at the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences at Kiel University in Germany and is one of the world’s top climate modellers.

But he makes it clear that he has not become a sceptic; he believes that this cooling will be temporary, before the overwhelming force of man-made global warming reasserts itself.

Oh what a pathetic defence….it’s just a blip, don’t worry…or actually worry like hell because the world is warming reallly, itis, because the trend is up our models says so.

The only problem for the warmist religionists is that Al Gores predictions of major inundation as a result of Global Warming is going to prove to be lie that it is and especially as the alleged rise in sea levels and the extent of the inundation and the time in which it will happen will all prove to have been a lie.

Climtate CHange and the earth is warming are a fraud, a myth and a hoax being perpetrated on the global population almost as though it was planned as a giant Ponzi scheme. Certainly an ETS is a Ponzi scheme. It is time to halt daft Nick Smith and his ilk.

Treasury bungles travel bill

Treasury bungles travel billThe Treasury has apologised for an error that embarrassed the Government and led Labour leader Phil Goff to accuse it of hypocrisy. [Stuff Politics]

Whoopsy, Labour looks stupid now. Treasury bungled the travel details when they released them this week.

Ministerial travel costs released last week showed that in the first three months of this year National ministers spent $739,000, more than double the $336,000 Labour ministers spent in the same period in 2008.

That wasn’t only wrong, it actually reversed the true situation.

The Treasury had been right with the $739,000 figure for National ministers, but it said today Labour ministers spent $783,000.

So, instead of National Minister spending up large it was in fact labour’s minister and we also know now too that their normal practice was to travel first class so that amount relates to far less travel than National’s which with the exception of John key’s travel which was booked by Helen Clark when she thought that she would be going to Peru.

Treasury’s deputy secretary for the state sector [non] performance group, Peter Mersi, said he deeply regretted the error and apologised for it.

I bet he does. His balls would have got a right good kicking for that embarrassment. Now though, Phil Goff needs to explain why it was common and usual practice for him as Trade Minister and Foreign minister before that to travel first class.
