Piers Morgan

Banning guns would have prevented this tragedy

Just ask Piers Morgan, guns are bad and should be banned. Banning guns will prevent all sorts of fatal/near fatal shenanigans anytime, anywhere. Nobody was ever killed or injured at the end of a weapon other than a gun, ever.

Murrysville, Pennsylvania: A 16-year-old armed with two knives went on a stabbing and slashing spree at a high school near Pittsburgh on Wednesday, leaving as many as 20 people injured, including a school police officer who eventually subdued the boy with the help of an assistant principal, police said.

Of the 19 students injured, four suffered serious wounds, but all were expected to survive, hospital officials said. The injured officer was discharged.

Murrysville police Chief Thomas Seefeld said the bloody crime scene at Franklin Regional High School, some 24 kilometres east of Pittsburgh, was “vast” and may take a couple days to process.

Most students received stab wounds to the torso, particularly the lower abdomen. Some suffered scrapes and cuts in the mayhem that ensued at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville on Wednesday morning.

Police haven’t named the suspect, who was taken into custody for questioning and later driven from the police station in the back of a cruiser for treatment for a minor hand wound.

Investigators haven’t determined a motive, but Seefeld said they’re looking into reports of a threatening phone call between the suspect and another student the night before. Seefeld didn’t specify whether the suspect reportedly received or made the call.

Two student victims were in critical condition, according to Dr Mark Rubino of Forbes Regional Medical Centre, the closest hospital to the school where eight victims were taken.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre treated a dozen patients. Officials said a 17-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy were in critical condition, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were in serious condition, and a 17-year-old boy and two 17-year-old girls were in fair condition.

Five UPMC patients had been discharged, including three 15-year-old boys, a 16-year-old girl and an adult.

Seefeld wouldn’t detail the carnage beyond saying, “The juvenile went down the hallway and was flashing two knives around and injured the people.”

The chief said someone, possibly a student, pulled a fire alarm after seeing some of the victims being stabbed. Although that created chaos, he said, it also resulted in students running out of the school to safety faster than they might have otherwise.

“The fire alarm being pulled probably assisted with the evacuation of the school and that was a good thing that that was done,” Seefeld said.

The district serves about 3600 students who live in the bedroom communities of Murrysville, Export and Delmont.

Parents and former students say the school, which doesn’t have metal detectors but does spot searches when security officials deem it necessary, generally does a good job of keeping students safe.

“I think the school reacted as fast … as possible,” said Rich Nickel, whose daughter, Jenna, 16, is a sophomore. “It’s obviously a (lone) individual’s act.”

The banning of guns would have also prevented the Boston bombings, 911, Oklahoma bombing and the recent Washington State mudslide.

Piers Morgan’s last hurrah

Piers Morgan has finished up at CNN.

Breibart reports:

After three-plus disastrous years, CNN’s Piers Morgan ended his embarrassingly low-rated “Piers Morgan Live” as we all knew he would — with a boorish anti-gun rant. After spending his full and final hour covering the missing Malaysian airliner, the left-wing Brit took his last few minutes as a CNN primetime star to go out flailing with a partisan attack on the NRA and a feeble cry of “Enough!”

I assumed that after 70 people were shot in a movie theater and then just a few months later 20 first-graders were murdered with an assault rifle in an elementary school, that the absurd gun laws in this country would change, but nothing has happened. The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation’s politicians into cowardly silence. Even when 20 young children are blown away in their classrooms.  …

“Now it’s down to you. It is your country. These are your gun laws. And the senseless slaughter will only end when enough Americans stand together and cry, ‘Enough!’ I look forward to that day. I also look forward to seeing you all again soon. Thank you. And God bless America. Oh, and while I’m at it, God bless Great Britain too. Good night.

Morgan was not only a ratings disaster for CNN, he was a public relations disaster. For years the left-leaning network had tried to fool audiences into believing CNN is unbiased. Morgan’s unrelenting anti-gun hysteria ripped the mask off the entire network.  Read more »

Obama is still the world’s best gun salesman

Obama and Piers Morgan are perhaps the world’s best gun salesmen.

Strum Ruger has released their latest annual report and profits are soaring.

Sturm, Ruger & Company released the company’s annual report for 2013.  Not surprisingly, sales and profits were up.  For the entire year, Ruger saw a $196.5 million increase in sales to $688.3 million.

While the very end of 2012 through mid-2013 saw a huge increase in sales across the industry, many people were reporting a return to “normal” sales in late 2013.  During the fourth quarter of 2013, Ruger sales continued to be very strong:  $181.9 million, up more than $40 million for the same period in 2012.  Read more »

Bye, Bye. Morgan told by CNN to Piers off

Piers Morgan has been given the arse card by CNN…something Travis predicted a few days ago.

Sure they’ve dressed it up as an amicable parting of the ways but the bottom line is Piers Morgan got the arse card from CNN.

CNN President Jeff Zucker has decided to bring an end to Piers Morgan’s low-rated primetime show, network sources told POLITICO on Sunday. “Piers Morgan Live” could end as early as next month, though Morgan may stay with the network in another role.

Morgan, a former British tabloid editor, replaced Larry King in the 9 p.m. hour three years ago, prior to Zucker’s tenure as president. His show earned consistently low ratings, registering as few as 50,000 viewers in the 25-to-54 year-old demographic earlier this week.

“CNN confirms that Piers Morgan Live is ending,” Allison Gollust, head of CNN communications, told POLITICO on Sunday after an earlier version of this post was published. “The date of the final program is still to be determined.”

Morgan told The New York Times on Sunday that the show had “run its course” and that he and Zucker “have been talking for some time about different ways of using me.” Sources who spoke to POLITICO said the decision to end the show was Zucker’s.

Zucker took the helm at CNN at the beginning of 2013 and has since brought incremental change to the network, including revitalized news programs and a new emphasis on films and documentary shows. Primetime remains the one area where Zucker has yet to impliment substantive change, a new 10 p.m. roundtable program with Anderson Cooper notwithstanding.   Read more »

How long before CNN tells anti gun campaigner to Piers off?

Things don’t seem to be going all that well for CNN’s imported pommy ranter Piers Morgan, after it has been revealed the show has been slowly going down the toilet since Morgan started his anti gun campaign.

In the end, are guns what killed CNN’s “Piers Morgan Live”?

The show, hosted by anti-gun crusader Morgan, continues to struggle in the Nielsens. And this month, the start of the Michael Dunn loud-music murder trial in Florida has put the issue of gun control back in the forefront. February has also produced six of the show’s smallest 10 audiences since it bowed in January 2011.

Tuesday’s telecast, which included coverage of the uprisings in Kiev and an interview with Rudy Giuliani, drew the show’s second smallest audience to date in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (50,000). It also drew just 270,000 total viewers, according to Nielsen, the show’s ninth smallest gathering ever.

“Piers Morgan Live” has fallen below the 300,000-viewer mark on seven other occasions in February. And while the Winter Olympics on NBC may be to blame for some of the audience loss this month, “Piers Morgan” is drawing just a fraction of the audience attracted by competing shows on CNN and MSNBC.

Opposite “Piers Morgan” on Tuesday, “The Kelly File” on Fox News Channel drew 2.07 million viewers (including 354,000 adults 25-54) while MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” attracted 906,000 (including 227,000 in the demo).

“Piers Morgan Live” isn’t CNN’s only problem in primetime, of course, as the entire lineup has struggled and CNN topper Jeff Zucker has promised that 2014 would be a year of “shake up.” On Tuesday from 8 to 11 p.m., the network averaged just 64,000 adults 25-54 — not far from its all-time low of 57,000 in May 2000.

Morgan has long been an outspoken critic of U.S. gun laws, but the drumbeat has grown louder in the two years since George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin. On his CNN show in December 2012, Morgan got into a heated exchange with gun-rights activist Larry Pratt, asking at one point: “You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?” Read more »

More bad news for Obama’s anti gun statisticians

The Worlds Best Gun Salesman won’t like this study, it doesn’t fit in with his agenda. Piers Morgan probably won’t like it much either, but then he has an answer for everything. Even when Brett Lee gives him a couple of broken ribs.

In what will certainly be gun control advocates’ new least favorite study, Quinnipiac University’s Mark Gius found not only that states with restrictive concealed weapons laws had higher gun-related murder rates, but that assault weapons bans had no significant impact on murder rates at the state level.

The study by economist Mark Gius, published in Applied Economics Letters, sought to “determine the effects of state-level assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on state murder rates,” using extensive data from a thirty-year period, 1980-2009. In the abstract for the study, Gius sums up the findings:

Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states. It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level. These results suggest that restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level.

Gius notes that these results are consistent with previous research, specifically citing the work by John R. Lott and David B. Mustard.

No matter how much the screaming anti gun scaremongers want to have you think differently, this just solidifies that concealed carry is one of the best forms of deterrence. Fortunately it is not something that is needed in NZ, yet.

Brett Lee’s mother needs to be tried for being un-Australian

Brett Lee has a lot to be ashamed of today, his mother for a start.

Morgan said West Indian stars Viv Richards and Chris Gayle had advised him to advance down the pitch to upset Lee’s length.

“Unfortunately, despite (Lee’s) nice-guy image, he’s a very nasty piece of work,” Morgan said afterwards having been iced for growing bruises.

“But he saw me coming, he loved the crowd and he speared it straight into my guts, my hands and everything – a deliberate attempt to maim me.

“And that’s despite his own mother telling him this morning not to hurt this guy, whoever he is.”   Read more »

Sir Richard Hadlee incensed about Piers Morgan/Brett Lee stunt

If you haven’t already seen the video, I ran it earlier today.  It’s gotten Sir Richard’s box out of position in a major way

As a former fast bowler I was appalled and outraged at what I witnessed during the tea break on the second day of the fourth Ashes cricket test at the MCG when former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee faced off British media host Piers Morgan in the nets.

I am so incensed I felt I needed to make comment.

While there were media jibes and a build-up to this bowling and batting contest on Friday, I could not believe my eyes – Lee’s brutal assault on Morgan was extremely dangerous and unnecessary.

It was clear that Morgan could not bat or defend himself against Lee’s pace and intimidation – this was an unfair and one-sided contest that could have had severe consequences. Sadly, in the past batsmen have died from receiving blows to the body.

I only hope that Brett takes a few minutes to reflect on his stupidity – this was a brain explosion of the highest order – it was a deliberate attempt to hit, injure, hurt and maim his opponent that I viewed as a form of grievous bodily harm or a human assault that could have proved fatal. Morgan, aged 48, was hit four times on the body and if he was hit on the head or across the heart the result could have been devastating.

Such is the general dislike of Morgan, I don’t think anyone who was watching would have been too concerned.  What Sir Richard forgets is that Morgan stood there out of his own free will.  How dumb is that?   Read more »
