Voilence Gets You Nowhere

[Imported from Whale Oil Beef Hooked on Blogger]

If there is one thing that the terrorist attacks around in the last few years have taught us, it is that violence and destruction gets you nowhere. Neither should it be used as a form of political expression.

While not to the same degree, it appears a a few Maori radicals were rather active last night, (still) protesting over the foreshore and seabed act:

“According to the press secretary for the Minister of Maori Affairs the
offices of Maharoa Okeroa and Georgina Beyer were both attacked last night with
rocks thrown through their windows.”

It’s also a bit of a worry when an MP is expected to support a position based purely on their ethnicity:

“Those that represent tangata whenua in Parliament have more than just a
duty, but an obligation to be the voice of those that they represent.

“As tangata whenua we have a responsibility to protect this
whenua. How can we do that when those that purport to represent us in Parliament
refuse to acknowledge first, that the whenua is an extension of ourselves and
our commitment is to protect Papatuanuku; and secondly, such a cession of
sovereignty will carry detrimental consequences for many a generation to
come.”

National is expected to return several MPs of Maori decent after the election. I doubt they would see themselves as captives of such radicals simply because of the colour of their skin.
