Anyone for a flight in a light aircraft?

No!, Didn't think so, not ater the Civil Aviation Authority was slammed in a report by the Auditor-General.
It found CAA inspectors often ignored procedures for monitoring, recording and following up "critical findings", with one taking more than 400 days to be cleared. The criticisms related to checks on aircraft and operators in the general aviation sector, which covers planes with less than 10 seats, including helicopters.

"Critical findings" are incidents or deficiencies with the potential to cause loss of "life or limb". They cover everything from maintenance to compliance with aviation laws and regulations, such as monitoring pilot fatigue.
Maurice Williamson described the report as ""shiver-up-your-spine stuff" and commented that "This has gone on for years, and the CAA have been reprimanded . . . and now here we are in 2006 and the Auditor-General's Office saying they are very concerned there's really no big moves made on those areas still. Heads should roll at both the board and management level."
