The benefits of Linux

I blogged some time ago about using Ubuntu Linux on the desktop.

Well my skills are progressing slowly. I have had a little project to do for a mate, these are the details.

We bought several old Dell servers at an auction from a company that went tits up.

The first challenge was to rehabilitate them. After working out how to configure the RAID and getting the HDD 's recognised I then set about installing Ubuntu Server on them.

That was the easy part.

I now have configured a true file and print server as well as set up a tranparent proxy using Squid . That was a little more difficult, but is now up and running sweetly.

I now feel almost ready to attempt Firewall installation.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him, you can’t ignore him.
