Auditor-General looks into HBDHB conflict issue

Auditor probes contract wrangle – 11 Jul 2007 – NZ Herald: New Zealand National news

Gollum will be spewing into his Cornies this morning after finding out that the Auditor-General has taken it upon himself to look into the contract conflict of interest saga at Hawkes Bay DHB.

Gollum was trying desperately to whitewash the whole incident. Unfortunately for Minister the A-G office was already in the midst of its annual audit of the DHB and so have added this little mess to the list of things to look into.

It will be interesting to see if the Auditor-general’s report differs in any way from the whitewash team set up by Gollum.

    The Herald report says:

    "

National deputy leader Bill English has been pressuring the Government to call in the Auditor-General to investigate, and it is understood that some of the Hawkes Bay health board members support that approach.

But over the weekend Mr Hodgson argued that it was unlikely an investigation would find anything wrong, and said he did not want to bother the Auditor-General with something which was "almost nothing".

Now the Auditor-General's office is looking anyway."

Surely if an investigation is REALLY going to find that there wasn't "anything wrong", Hodgson would welcome the A-G's involvement with open arms, even it it did "bother him" (the A-G). With all the bad news surrounding the government, wouldn't vindication by the A-G be great news. I guess it would, unless you knew that there was more the the messy business than met the eye!
