National is signalling early on its desire for a ethnically diverse list with John Key saying there were "no ifs or buts" about the need for National to get a more ethnically diverse range of faces into the party.

Note the Key (pun intended) difference between National and Labour. National wants ethnically diverse candidate whereas Labour wants sexually diverse candidates.
