Labour set to increase building compliance costs

Govt plans to lighten carbon load – New Zealand news on Stuff.co.nz

Willy nilly pursuit of unproven theories are set to increase building compliance costs if a government proposal is implemented.
If approved, the tough new code would examine the carbon cost of every nut, bolt, and four-by-two that goes into the construction of a new building – residential, commercial or otherwise.

The “embodied energy” concept – the total amount of energy used to produce a final product from raw materials – is being released for public and industry feedback in a building code review discussion paper.

One option is to set a carbon limit for the design of new buildings, assessing emissions associated with construction, operation, maintenance and demolition.
All this will do is set up another bloated bureacracy at every council and in central government so they can count carbon and then charge taxes not to mention the extra delay in approvals. Further it will not solve anything, in fact with all the extra bureaucrats burning up endless amounts of paper for their reports, toner for their laser printers and power for all the systems required this proposal woul fall flat on its facce in attempting to reduce the so called “carbon footprint”.
