Arctic Sea-Ice grows, London colder than Antarctic and Madrid snowed in

Despite the best efforts of Al Gore to melt the Arctic sea-ice with his hot air the Arctic just seems to do whatever it wants and is now at the same level as 1979 when satellite recording started. In fact, the rate of increase from September onward is the fastest rate of change on record, either upwards or downwards. Each year, millions of square kilometers of sea ice melt and refreeze. However, the mean ice anomaly — defined as the seasonally-adjusted difference between the current value and the average from 1979-2000, varies much more slowly. That anomaly now stands at just under zero, a value identical to one recorded at the end of 1979, the year satellite record-keeping began.

Oh but remember the “underlying trend” is to warming.

Then there is the case of tropical Madrid which has thousands trapped in record snow drifts. The Madrid airport operator said it was meeting Barajas officials to try to re-establish normal service after one of the heaviest snowfalls in decades caused the international airport to shut down for five hours on Friday. Spain, like many other parts of Europe, has had an unusually cold winter so far. But not to worry, it is merely an aberration from the “underlying warming trend”.

Not to mention London where the temperature has been lower even than Antarctica. London reached a high of 37F (3C) yesterday, which was the same as Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. At Antarctica’s Jubany Scientific Station, which is home to 60 people, 16,000 penguins and 650 sea lions, a relatively balmy high of 41F (5C) was recorded.

MeteoGroup UK said that on Sunday night temperatures reached 18F (-8C) in northern Scotland and 21F (-6C) in parts of England and Wales.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in England was -15F (-26.1C) on Jan 10, 1982 in Shropshire.

Bookmakers William Hill cut the odds of a record cold temperature being reached in 2009 from 20/1 to 16/1. Despite the bookies we all known that the “underlying trend” is to warming. Surely?

It seems that Global Warming just won’t play ball or as is suspected by growing numbers of scientists and ordinary people to be complete bollocks. Me? I’m going for the complete bollocks theory.
