Oh it's all a smear

Sorry Trougher Len you will have to do better than that to pull out the “it’s a smear” line over your credit card expenses.

Your excuses raise more questions than they answer.

I can’t wait till Jonathan Marshall releases all of his tapes.

Brown says the meal was a fundraiser in support of a young singing artist from the Manukau community and was a completely appropriate occasion.

“This is a bona fide purchase of a table in support of a fundraiser for one of our excellent young musical talents coming through.”

Well why didn’t you say that up front instead of running around getting bills made up that excluded beverages?

“We have a smear and an inappropriate comment by this journalist against me personally, against our council and against that owner,” Brown says.

It’s no smear. The journalist reported what he was told and as you have now smeared him I can hardly wait for the transcripts of his tapes.

He says the council does support fundraisers every now and then and on one occasion they were asked to attend a fundraiser for the Stellar Trust by Brown’s primary accuser, Councillor Dick Quax, which cost $4,500 to attend.

Brown says that it is “absolutely acceptable” to, on occasion, support events such as that.

Ok, so how many fundraisers like you say has the council supported and how many did you pay for on your credit card?

Brown says that he is the victim of a smear campaign from within the council and that Quax and Jami-Lee Ross are at the forefront of this campaign.

He says things were fine until the New Zealand Herald reported he was leading the race for super city mayor.

“We’ve got two of them who are C&R (Citizens and Ratepayers) candidates and they are taking every opportunity to follow through what I regard as a deliberate smear campaign.”

Bullshit Len, and you know better than that. They are taking every opportunity to scrutinise the spending of a Mayor who can’t even remember which card is which in his wallet. It is hardly a smear campaign to ask for accountability and to ask questions as to why you repeatedly breached the councils own credit card usage policy, a policy that presumably you signed so as to uplift the card in the first place. A lawyer should know better than that Len.

Quax and Ross last week called for a full review of Brown’s credit card use after allegations he used it to purchase family groceries, a stereo system and paid to take his wife to a hotel.

Brown maintains that he has reimbursed the council for all personal expenditure.

It is irrelevant that he repaid the expenses, one more than 437 days later! The rules are simple, even a dunce could understand them. There is to be no personal credit card usage. There are no exceptions like “ooops, sorry I forgot my wife has my card”.

Brown’s mantra that this is all above board and part of a normal audit process is a complete fabrication, a lie (sue me). If that was the case Trougher Len then all of these so called expenses would have been a long long long time before they even reared their head.

Since Len Brown says that these are subject to regular audit reviews, let’s see them then. We’ll soon see who is fibbing and who isn’t.

The last question that remains unanswered is how the original invoice that would have been stapled to the eftpos receipt that was submitted got “lost” in the first place which necessitated a council officer asking for a new one to be “made up”, a new one that should have by law had copy on it, and the same docket number as the original, which the restaurant must have in its records too because by law they have to retain their records for seven years. The law is clear and as an officer of the court Len Brown may have organised a subversion of those laws.

Let’s see all the originals, let’s see all the documents and let’s hear no more about smears, after all it was Len Brown that signed the dockets, they are real, they are paper and they aren’t made up.

Len Brown’s Labour funded team and patsy CEO have said that the replacement invoice was requested because the original one didn’t have a GST number on it, that means it exists, I say show us the original and let us be the judge of whether it has a GST number on it or not.

Len Brown hasn’t covered himself in glory over this, he has lied, lied some more and is now trying to justify all his inappropriate spending on a smear by a journalist. The point is though if Len Brown had followed his own councils rules then no smear could exist because there would be nothing to report.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.
