Troughing with Bernie

Jim Anderton aka “Bernie” has been troughing it up large on the taxpayer as well. Unlike Tugger Jones though he has shown zero contrition and expects the taxpayer to just suck it up.

Jim Anderton - TrougherProgressive leader Jim Anderton racked up a $22,000 bill on his ministerial credit card during a month-long trip to Europe in 2003.

He also spent $324 on a gift from Kirkcaldie & Stains before leaving on the trip.

The cash splash while in Europe  from April 9 to May 3 included $3500 at Hotel Hilton in Frankfurt, $3400 at Hotel Conrad in Dublin, $2600 at the Palace Hotel in Helsinki and $1000 at a restaurant in Vienna. His wife and private secretary went with him on the trip.

At the Frankfurt hotel he spent about $2100 on “room charges”. No details are provided in the documents.

He was a regular user of room service, mini bar (mineral water and beer) and in-room movies.

He spent $202 at a clothing store in Frankfurt, which he later reimbursed.

In July 2003, he used his credit card to pay for a $50 a round of golf at Millbrook Resort during a Local Government conference in Queenstown. He later repaid the $50.

Being in his late 60s when he troughed it up I doubt they were porn movies but one does wonder just exactly what $2100 in “room charges” were. Since he went through Austria and they have quality free to air porn it is unlikely it was that. Finland perhaps may provide some answers. My understanding is that you can get quality Russian hookers and they add those to the bill as “room charges”. Being close to 70 back then it was probably more for Mrs Anderton rather than him, he’d be a watcher for sure by now.

Basically though Anderton has carted his useless arse around the world’s top sightseeing spots, including the Taj Mahal, and got us to foot the bill.

Time for this veteran trougher to retire, including his mayoral aspirations. If he thinks the public are going to tolerate his world-class spending, having a mayoralty and remain as an MP all whilst on the pension and parliamentary super scheme he has another thing coming.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him.  But you can’t ignore him.
