Rodney, Heather and the party

I too had the Roy Dossier” shopped to me.

On first blush it is terrible as written and makes literally hundreds hundreds of allegation of impropriety against Rodney Hide. However the more you go through page after page after page of the “evidence” you come to a single conclusion. That there is no evidence.

Perhaps the worst allegation is the one about the leaked defence document. Now this is quite a complex little story and on the surface of it appears to show complete indiscretion on the part of Rodney Hide and Wayne Mapp, plus levels a rather serious accusation against Nick Kearney that if proved would likely put him in the slammer. This is the main thrust of the story that was shopped to me. Based on the “evidence” supplied via two anonymous hotmail accounts it appears damaging. Except for one thing. There isn’t a skerrick of evidence, electronic or otherwise. Simply a smear, an innuendo if you like.

Much more concerning about this paper is the fact that the Minister of Defence, Wayne Mapp, has told me that he has been informed by a National Party activist that ACT Board Member, Nick Kearney, has a copy of this paper. He said Nick Kearney has shown the activist the paper and encouraged him to write an article for the blog ‘No Minister’. The activist has told me that he will not do anything with it – it is a sensitive document of national security significance and it was
raised with Wayne Mapp because of this serious concern.

First up, I know Nick Kearney well. I consider him a friend. He is also a lawyer and so should know the implications of doing such a thing. On my own personal basis of measuring people how I find them I believe Nick Kearney. He has never told a lie to me. Now to be fair I haven’t asked him about this yet, but yesterday in parliament while labour’s two bovver boys Pete the Meat and trevor Mallard were trying to put the hit on with these documents Rodney Hide made a personal statement.

Not only has Nick Kearney denied ever receiving and shopping the Defence paper but Rodney Hide has also now stood in the house and made a personal statement to the effect that he has never given any document to anyone who wasn’t meant to have it. This is very strong. A Personal statement is considered irrefutable. Right now as it stands together with Nick Kearney’s statement and Rodney Hide’s personal statement to the House it is incumbent on other, the leakers and smearers, to prove categorically that they are lying. To do so would of course be the end of Rodney Hide’s political career. It is on this basis that I can only assume that the plethora of docuemtns and the interesting webs that have been woven over the past week were all designed to lead to Labour raising these questions and bloggers willy-nilly posting documents.

The fact that the only organisation to post these documents is the NZ Herald reflects poorly on them as they are far from boths sides of a very sorry tale. In fact if you check the the electronic details of the files you see something interesting.

The Powerpoint slide that I was sent, twice, from two seperate hotmail accounts, was created by “Me” at a company called “Awesome Kiwi”.

A quick check of the companies office website shows the following details:

Awesome Kiwi Company Details

Note that the Director of Awesome kiwi Limited is one Simon Ewing-Jarvie,. He was Heather Roy’s defence advisor and is now on gardening leave after being marched from the parliamentary precinct the other day. Now the interesting thing about the above two images is that I heard from two of my sources that Rodney Hide was telling people that I had given him documents, and I have also told him that the documents came from Simon Ewing-Jarvie’s company.

I don’t like being used as a patsy so I started to do a bit of digging. I actually rang Rodney and confronted him with these allegations, particularly the part about me giving him documents, but left out the piece about the company and my source of documents. This was my double blind test so to speak. As I mentioned previously I received these documents in two separate emails from two separate email addresses that are both hotmail addresses. Rodney mentioned that he had now seen the documents in question and had also obtained an electronic copy of them. He then told me about the electronic signatures and the rest I did myself.

It is clear from where this blogger is sitting that there has been a complex and serious attempt, a fraud almost to smear, via innuendo, false documents, lies and tricks using bloggers, media and opposition politicians to “get Rodney” no matter the collateral damage. It has all the hallmarks of a mad artillery strike when a sniper would have been better and now there are casualties.

Some of the obfuscations can be cleared up pretty quickly. Wayne Mapp needs to be asked if the documents support his view of what happened. A simply Yes or No answer is sufficient, then Heather Roy needs to be able to produce hard evidence to support the allegations leaked by her lieutenants by proxy, and then when she can’t she needs to resign from ACT, and from parliament because she will have been shown to have been hopelessly compromised, and a liar.

Rodney too needs to come out with some action points, which involve cutting the cancer of rebellion from his party. That means going after Kevin Campbell as well. He is still busily shopping documents to all who will wallow in them.

So far I have only seen smears. I mean who cares if Rodney got hammered on Waiheke and abused some unionists for being poofs. I would have thought that was a merit badge requirement for ACT on Campus membership. And who cares who is rooting who. I mean really people, we should be focusing on other more important things. As Helen Clark used to say, move along, nothing to see here.
