"Dumb-ass coconut" supports Parata

Oh dear. Pedro Gower has the scoop of the week.

Labour’s pursuit of the Pacific Islander vote in the Mana by-election has been dealt a blow, with a member of candidate Kris Faafoi’s campaign team forced to apologise for calling a National Party rival a “dumb-ass coconut”.

Litea Ah Hoi is a hardcore Labour supporter out fighting for votes in the by-election – so hardcore her Facebook page carried a message calling a rival a “dumb-ass coconut”.

Calling some-one a dumb-ass coconut for not supporting the Labour candidate? Not smart words. But the “dumb ass” that made them just dug the hole even deeper.

“It’s Pacific humour,” she says. “Whether you put it together with dumb-ass, and then the coconut… if she took offence to it, then like…” Ms Ah Hoi pulls a surprised face.

Funny…not even…it’s racist. If Paul Henry got sacked for mocking someones name then this is far worse. I fully expect UNITE union to mobilise outside Fa’afoi’s campaign HQ calling for sackings. Gee isn’t UNITE Matt McCarten’s union that called for the sacking of Paul Henry for racist remarks? Isn’t Matt McCarten campaigning in Mana?

But it gets even better, Ah Hoi when faced with utter destruction in the form of a menacing and on form Pedro Gower just goes and gives him complete gold to camera.

Watch the video for a truly appalling fake apology

Ms Ah Hoi is a Porirua city councillor and former deputy mayor. She said there has been abuse from the National side too, but still apologised – sort of.

“I, Litea Ah Hoi, on behalf of Porirua Proud, apologise for the term ‘dumb-ass coconut’ being used. And if people are offended by it, can I suggest you put it in a bubble and blow it away.”

I know who the “dumb-ass coconut” is and it isn’t Liz Tanielu.

Litea Ah Hoi deployed the standard Labour party “But they did it too” defence, but the evidence is against her. Just a few days ago she was abusing another Hekia Parata supporter on her blog (since taken down, but still available on the Google Cache, now who is the dumb-ass coconut) as she called him a “kumara”, Brown on the outside but yellow in the middle.
