Brash making a move?

The DomPost this morning has an article about machinations in Act to roll Rodney Hide and to somehow replace him with Don Brash.

Former National leader Don Brash is making a bid for a political comeback as ACT party leader – if it will have him.

Dr Brash confirmed yesterday that if he was offered the ACT leadership he would take it, after previously rejecting behind-the-scenes efforts to woo him back to Parliament either as ACT leader Rodney Hide’s deputy or as co-leader.

Dr Brash said he would not contemplate returning to Parliament under either of those scenarios but would if offered the leadership.

His comments throw down the gauntlet before a crucial ACT board meeting next Saturday and breathe new life into ACT’s electoral prospects, which have been widely written off after a disastrous period for Mr Hide.

That makes the Perigo interview with Don Brash interesting as well. (Starts at 4:20)

My sources tell me that the rumours of John Banks being involved are simply that…rumours, though he may well be one of those whose finance will fall in behind a Don Brash led Act party.

This could well be an interesting week in politics.

ACT desperately need a “circuit-breaker”, that’s for sure, and Brash could be it. He can hardly do worse than Rodney Hide.
Hide has been “missing in action” for the last year or so. It’s true, however, that Brash has all the charisma of a cabbage.
It’d be good if ACT could get a leader with charisma. Maybe attract Nikki Kaye from the Nats – that’d attract the “bloke vote”……. :)

Don Brash is one of NZ’s greatest economics minds and would attract alot of National’s frustrated voters with the lack of economic progress. I have alot of respect for John Banks and Don Brash. They would easily give National the mandate (and pressure) it needs for economic reform. No doubt it would attract alot of finance for Act too! Rodney was good but his season is over and needs to depart for the good of the right.

Please stand Don and John! Your nation needs you!
