The campaign is building

It looks like the campaign is building for a new leadership team in Labour.

The narrative that is now coming through via known leftwing journalists is that Shane Jones is the only person prepared to step up to assist, the others are cowards and that Phil Goff will still lead Labour. This same message has been fed rather nicely through back channels to Matthew Hooton as well.

Two weeks ago I was canvassed for my thoughts on the prospects of Jones returning. I said to the Labour MPs who asked that I though Jones had the guts, and force of character to come back. I thought that his front footing his porn spending and rapidly apologizing neutered the issue at the time, and if you compared his contrition with Phil Goff’s when he gets thing wrong the differences were stark.

I blogged about the suggestion that Shane Jones was being pushed forward to replace Annette King. I was scoffed at and Annette King loudly said otherwise. Phil Goff and Annette King blamed all this on a nasty National party conspiracy. Both of them ignore the inconvenient truth that their caucus is not happy and will do anything including talking to bloggers to effect change.

There is a move afoot and Shane Jones is the one at the fore-front of it.

He is as cunning as a shit-house rat and I can see the logic in him gunning for King and not Goff. In athe aftermath of their election failure Shane Jones will be able stand before caucus and say that only he was prepared to step up. Goff can conveniently be blamed for the failure but also he can point to the cowardice of Parker and Cunliffe in particular. By moving now he places himself well and truly at the front of the queue for any right to be leader after Goff fails to fire at the election.

There is currently a two week parliamentary recess and so I would say the white-anting of King and Goff will continue for the next two week and then with another Roy Morgan poll released they will be ready to move at the first caucus after recess. Interesting times lie ahead for Labour.

“I thought that his front footing his porn spending and rapidly apologizing neutered the issue at the time, and if you compared his contrition . . .”

Really? What about his attitude over the two days which preceed his “contrition” , you know, when he still thought he’d stiffarm his way out of it.

Jones has no credibility. None. He’s just a fatcat trougher who tosses off to dirty movies. And it really is a mark of his arrogant self-assurance to think he has any great political future.

No political party can entertain having a leader who has been caught watching porn or any other undesirable action or activity – no matter how contrite the apology is. Easy to apologise for your actions when you are caught. What is done is done. It cannot be undone. A leader needs to be squeaky clean.

Whale you might be right about Jones.
But Jones has one major problem.
He has the X Factor of damp Squid.
Granted Clark who also has the X factor of a Squid.
    Won the 1999 election.
That was a different time. Heartland NZ was totally pissed off with National .
In fact anything that wasn’t National. Would have won that election Even Moore would have won if he hadn’t been knifed in the back.
Times have changed. Heartland NZ is right behind National.
The righties and the Libertarians have a choice with National coalition partner Act.
Labour with its has- beans are History.
The country has moved on for the better.

Jones will never recover from porngate. Cam, you for one will never let him forget it should he roll Goofy. Could see some interesting promotional footage shot under his watch. “Jacinta does Dallas” comes to mind. I must admit though that he does have a bit of charisma that is totally lacking elsewhere in the Labour caucus.

  • God forbid that a man should watch porn!

    Shock Horror

Is that how PC we’ve become?

    • Andrewo; it’s not that he watched porn; it’s that his judgment was so bad that he paid for it with his ministerial credit card. I can’t see the feminist element of Labour’s caucus letting this happen.

It’s not that he watched porn IV2. It is that he watched porn with a blonde in bed with him.
        And it wasn’t a waka-blonde wife either

Please push for a seat at the top table Shane, the fun we will have with you.
    A lazy wanker. Literally.
Double dipping, bone idle and keeps some very dodgy company from Whangerai to the top.

I agree with Liberty – Jones has no “X-factor” whatsoever. I don’t think he has any ability to freshen up Labour’s “policies”.
Having said that, I think you may well be right in saying that he’s plotting against King behind the scenes.

Not wanting to get into Jones’s work ethic etc, but I still advocate that he is in the wrong party…. He is the rightest of the right in the Labour Party…. Sheesh, he is a farmer at heart…

And really how many people are truly pissed with him for having a “Danger Masti” ??? F-All in the scheme of things

Shane is nothing but a pontificating blow arse, my old Grandaddy always said “never trust a man who uses 30 words to say something when 6 words will suffice“ nuff said, non issue.
