Bludgers that might just make Artists look modest

Foreign policy people who form useless international organisations that achieve bugger all. We need a cost benefit analysis on MFAT as a starting point.

If Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires, Asia has been the graveyard of international organizations, and the SCO seems doomed to share the fate of SEATO, ASEAN, APEC, AP-6 and many others. These organizations (SEATO died through lack of interest in the 1970s, but the rest still exist) have held many meetings, but it’s hard to point to a single substantive achievement between them. And most of these organizations had a more coherent membership and rationale than does the SCO, which looks rather like a salon des refusés formed in defiance of the corresponding organizations of liberal democracies.

What the ?*(&%$ has the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation made up of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan got to do with MFAT?

All in hand – Murray McCully is putting the boot properly into MFAT. He wants results for the Government’s investments.

NZ should be also putting the boot into international organisations which are quite happy to give NZ a kick up the arse for alleged rights infringements, but would not dare touch Robert Mugabe or other tinpot dictators. Pulling out of various international agreements (eg re welfare benefits) would be a good start.

  • If it was up to me, all agreements with the UN would be cancelled immediately.

At the very least, such binding agreements should be subject to referenda. Or even an election.

NZ has signed up to the destructive requirements of the sinister Agenda 21 back in the nineties, and most NZers wouldn’t have had a clue what they were in for.

      Agreed. Absolutely agreed.

The UN is as useless as tits on a bull (and is as biased as hell).
My pick for the most useless *part* of the UN is UNRWA – the Fakestinian babysitting service (sorry – “refugee outfit”) that has been in existence since Dec 1949, soon after Israel was formed.
Over sixty f**king years and they have stuff-all to show for it. Exactly why the Fakestinians need such an intensive babysitting service, catering to their every need, is a mystery. Being Muslim would be part of the answer, but there are Muslims elsewhere who don’t need such attention. Gee… I guess it must be because they are continually fighting Israel and blaming “the Jooooz” instead of doing something useful.

  • Mr Blobby

As anybody done a cost benefit on any of these talkfests.
    G8, G20 etc
They cost a huge amount to put on, just about bankrupting the smaller nations; the security demands for some of these so called world leaders, are unbelievable. Not mention the inconvenience to the great unwashed not invited to the party.
All for a communiqué that was probably approved in advance to avoid the embarrassment if an agreement wasn’t reached.
Gives new meaning to the term junket.

  • So Cameron, what is your definition of a bludger?
