Colin Craig standing in Epsom

Colin Craig is going to stand in Epsom and is now bombarding locals with these brochures.

Unfortunately for Colin Craig he doesn’t appear to be taking very good advice. Not only does he mention his opponent on his own brochure he is seriously damaging his brand doing dumb things. He would have been much smarter standing in Tamaki up against the very sick and disliked Allan Peachey.

An absolute howler in terms of the punchline for it’s ambiguity.

    First class candidate.
    John Banks

    Indeed Banksy is.

I’d say John Ansell had absolutely nothing to do with this ad. Perhaps the industry could out who did? They perhaps will be having a long holiday.

  • thor42

Agreed. Tamaki would have been a much better option.

  • Publicity. He knows he won’t win. But, moderate National supporters are probably not that impressed with the implosion of ACT…

  • Apolonia

It looks like the voters of Epsom will have an interesting choice this election.Either a party of the past, with a dissfunctional history and some Dads Army type candidates or a party that’s new without baggage and some pretty impressive policies. It will be interesting to see who the Conservatives have on their list, hopefully not people like David Garret, Hillary Calvert or Debora Codface.

  • Tamati

I’m sure David Parker has a smile as wide as the Nile after Colin Craig’s (unofficial) announcement. I’m sure Colin will throw a few dollars at the electorate and no doubt he’ll get a bit of traction.
    Epsom just got exciting!

  • reid

Colin appears life-astute but politically unaware. He strongly needs a good PR man, doesn’t he. A Colin-Ansell match could possibly become a very powerful vehicle.

I think both would gain from the partnership.

  • Col has a clean slate of honesty and integrity, yeah right. Hope no one who has been at the Col face reads that.

  • Liberty

To try an split the vote within like minded parties is not very bright.

  • Ben

    What a howler indeed.

Dang this blog post on Colin being not that clever bought a tear to my eye. Thanks Colin, just made a mundane night a work just that tad more entertaining.

As for everything else about him and the Conservative Party – hmm a case of ‘Watch this space?”

  • Hard1

Shit , looks like no-ones bright these days .

  • Brendan

I agree with Liberty splitting the vote is not a good idea.

He should have looked for another electorate.

Still after the election we will probably hear that he is shutting down the party along with Jim Anderton shutting down his progressives.

  • Kevin Campbell

It does not surprise me that anyone supporting the Act farce would think this a negative ploy because I believe it will be – for Act.

It is an excellent competitive move by Colin Craig because he isnt into playing games that suit National. Sad movies and its game on in Epsom.

Imagine if Colin Craig wins Epsom? I give him every show because he has done his homework and is a young man determined to succeed. Act have pinned their hopes and dreams on yesterdays man, no disrespect John Banks but you should have stayed retired and a National party member.

Some will bleat on that Craig is splitting the right vote, tough and bollocks. If John Banks and the Act party had stronger growth potential for party votes (i.e. list MPs) than Craig and his party in time fair enough, but we know Act is dead in the water at 2% so its time to support a party that can get traction. Since when did Act get 600 members in less than a month?

    Great move Colin.

    • Kevin you really are a plonker, you clutch at the hem of every latest new politician only to run screaming and chucking your toys when they don’t follow the advice of you.

If I were you I’d stick to recruitment, it seems you are reasonably good at that. Politics, though, you are tits at. So best to STFU instead of proving what everyone else knows every time you open your gob with some pronouncement or other.

    • Clint Heine

Kevin is showing himself to be one of those old bitter types, cast away by ACT, rejected by the Reform Party and now getting his panties moist about Colin Craig. This campaign is no such thing.

Colin has shown his true colours. He is running in Epsom to gain the maximum exposure for HIMSELF. If he was serious about winning he’d do what Whale has suggested and run in Tamaki, instead he’s going for a mythical winning position in Epsom. He won’t win it, but he’ll manage to string along the “600” that signed up to his party (no doubt Kev Campbell and Peter Tashkoff are in there) long enough to get more exposure for himself.

Plus this leaflet is just dreadful.

    • Liberty

      Kevin.
The problem Craig has. Is he trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. He is ten years too late.
In 1999 National had pissed off all in sundry. National would have been back in 2005 if it wasn’t for some dirty dealing by labour.
Now National is in power with a very large rating in the polls.
That tells me the populace is quite content to be living in a dry
Socialist country led by a leader who works with people. Unlike that failed Labour administration that was controlled by the haughty one.
National is not very good at accommodating the righties and the Libertarians.
One of the advantages MMP you can get a Government even if it is wishy washy socialist with a sound supporting coalition partner.
So where do the conservatives fit in?
      The dry Socialist have National
      The Righties have ACT
      The Libertarians have Act

The wet socialist have Labour,Mana, Greens
      The Greens have the Greens,Labour,Mana
The Marxists have Mana, Greens or Labour

      The Maoris have Maori, National,Act,Labour,Greens,Mana

The conservatives are a bit surplus
Maybe Graig is just another Peters type.
      A waste of space.

      • Act has imploded and Winston is looking like a left tactical voter’s dream.

  • Hard1

The old “Some people” line . Didn’t George Bush 2 use that a lot . It’s a really smeary statement .

  • Kevin Campbell

Cameron, thanks for the compliment, tough if my political view doesnt run in line with the flock. I am happy to discuss your opinion of me in person anytime.

    • Why would I waste my time even bothering.

  • Ben

Interesting, I am going through this http://www.conservativeparty.org.nz/index.php?page=people_page and comparing that to say the Party List of well, National, Labour and The Greens (and even ACT); I think something might be sorely missing on The Conservative Party’s people page?

Or am I jumping the gun a bit here.

  • Kevin Campbell

We might find we are both genuine and on the same side fighting the same enemy.

  • Nick K

Kevin, you joined ACT just a month or so ago via the website. Then you took your Facebook page down for fear of someone reading your pathetic rantings. I never agreed with your membership renewal but the party did, so what did you do? You ran off and did exactly what Cam said: You clutched at the hem of the latest politician to show any interest. You then reinstated your FB page and glorified it with sycophantic posts on Colin Craig. Both Colin and you need to realise that politics is a marathon, not a sprint. Many, many parties have formed trying to get into parliament and all have failed, except Act. You have shown you cannot work constructively inside the tent; in fact both you and your mate Peter Tashkoff showed that. Act spent months expelling Tashkoff, time that could have been spent doing more constructive things.

I hope Colin realises all this, and I hope he understands you will spend all your time causing problems unless you get your way. Yet life ain’t like that Kevin; you have to fight the battles you can win, and forget the ones you can’t. Seasoned political activists know this. You do not. That is why Cam is spot on the money here: You are tits at politics, and that is something Colin will undoubtedly find out. Hopefully sooner rather than later for his sake.

It seems Colin is equally politically stupid: Never, ever mention another candidate on your own publicity material. Especially one you are trying to beat. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

  • Nick K

Kevin, you joined ACT just a month or so ago via the website. I thought that strange, considering you left in a huff and formed the Reform Party.

Then you took your Facebook page down for fear of someone reading your pathetic rantings.

I never agreed with your membership renewal but the party did, so what did you do? You ran off and did exactly what Cam said: You clutched at the hem of the latest politician to show any interest. Colin cannot choose an original colour – he has to go tory blue. Then he mentions Banks on his promotional material in an ambiguous manner. It’s such a farce I can only conclude you put all this together.

  • Pong Lenis

Why is Colin Craig describing John Banks as a first class candidate? I’m sure he meant something different but this has to be an expensive own goal on Craigs part….

    • Shazzadude

Hmmm, someone clearly doesn’t understand quotation marks.

  • Kevin Campbell

Nick Kearney, I will keep my comments truthful in contrast to your contribution.

There are thousands of former Act members who voted with their feet and have left your political rabble of dysfunction in disgust.

Peter Tashkoff and I are the only two who decided to take a public stand against the dictatorship on behalf of members who were leaving in droves Where were you on behalf of those members Nick Kearney?

What isnt fiction Nick Kearney is the appalling polling of the party you have been complicit in directing with grand incompetence as a board member. The stats are plain for all to see.

  • Kevin Campbell

Good luck to Colin Craig if he stands in Epsom and if he wants me to give him a hand in any way I look forward to it.

  • The people of Tamaki already have a first class Independent candidate to choose over Allan Peachy ;)

    • Well, you’d win, especially since Allan has pulled out.

  • Nick K

Kevin, if it is so incompetent, why did you apply to join about a month ago?

Kevin, why did you ask Don Brash to “fire the board” if you are so insistent on following due process? The board is elected, it cannot be “fired”. I should know, I stood against your mate Tashkoff and he withdrew knowing full well he never stood a chance of beating me.

    Facts, Kevin, facts.

  • statlerandwaldorf

“There are thousands of former Act members who voted with their feet and have left your political rabble of dysfunction in disgust.”

Well, me for one. ACT is an embarrasment. Too many politically confused social liberals in it for a start.

  • Kevin Campbell

Nick Kearney, where you get your information is beyond me but I can guess. I would look for a new informant. Enjoy your weekend.
