Now at first glance – that proverb seems to have neo liberal written all over it.

I’ll have to take some time to go back and look at the context of it. I would hate to think that ACT had support from Scripture …

“Now at first glance – that proverb seems to have neo liberal written all over it”.

As amenable as I am to neo-liberalism compared to socialism as generally a better means of alleviating overall and long-term poverty, diabolos, I’d suggest the text supports neither.

I think you may be making the interpretive error of presuming the proverb intends to PRESCRIBE a course of action. Instead, I’d suggest it seeks to DESCRIBE an aspect of life: Money attracts “friends”, particularly of the fair-weather variety, whereas those who lack material resources don’t tend to feature on “Keeping up with the Kardashians”.

Armed with that knowledge of human nature, the hearer of the Proverb should then consider how to tailor their response to the vast variety of circumstances that life provides.
