Proverbs 7

1 Follow my advice, my son;
always treasure my commands.
2 Obey my commands and live!
Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes.
3 Tie them on your fingers as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.

4 Love wisdom like a sister;
make insight a beloved member of your family.

    Never noticed before the thematic and stylistic reliance by the compilers of Proverbs in their presentation of Solomon’s advice, upon the presentation of Moses issuing the command to “Shema” (“Hear”) of Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

    In Proverbs 7 there is the fatherly advice probably to a lusty youth/teenager (as per what follows in Chapter 7) to “Tie them (my advice/instructions/commands) on your fingers as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart”.

    In Deuteronomy Moses is presented as delivering the commands/instructions/stipulations of the Torah, and Israel are to, “Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gate” (Deu, 6:8, 9).

    So there is a similarity, almost equivalence between Wisdom personified, as in Proverbs, especially Chapter 8, and the commandments of Yahweh. Is a strong emphasis in the Wisdom literature of the Old Testament: To be wise is to listen carefully to Yahweh, and his primary agents of administering Wisdom and knowledge of the Mosaic Law- Parents, Priests, Prophets.

    Once you have listened, you then do, with diligence and faithfulness.

    Just saying. OK, devotion time over.

    Now what is WO saying elsewhere on this site about Trevor Mallard…?

      OK diabolos, let me translate what I meant the writer is saying:

      Listen and do what I say!
