Labour is set to do a “Reconnecting with the Provinces” redux tour and pretend like it is something new. This is the sort of patronising behaviour that turned the electorate off to them in 2008 and 2011. This is the exact same thing that is happening in the UK, and the similarities are striking:

Labour is forced back into the ideological bloody-mindedness of the 1980s: if people do not agree with us, we must try harder to make them see the light. It isn’t that our message is wrong, it is just that we are not communicating it clearly enough. Marxists called this “false consciousness”: the idea that the people have no idea what is really best for them. Most voters just regard it as patronising rubbish.
