Face of the Day

The Maritime Union is trying to get us to buy their sob stories about the destruction of a family life by their evil employers.

They have posted a website to spout their lies. I have to call them lies when they have this prominent photo of one of their members, Wayne Wolfe, holding a placard which repeats the lie of Penny Bright about directors fees at POAL.

UPDATE: I have received the following suggestions via the tipline for a caption contest:

“Help us Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope”

“I helped elect Len Brown an all I got was this lousy sign”

“Check out the IWC Big Pilot on my wrist”

“Honk if you love titties”

“Can someone bring us 23 flat whites and 7 decaf lattes?”

After hearing the rhetoric and abuse laden description of POAL’s communications directly to workers and families from the Maritime Workers and others, we should now be hearing a loud round of invective about bringing families and children into what is a dispute between the union members (ie the “workers”) and their employer.

How this is disgusting and unethical for them to use the innocent mothers & children in this sordid and disturbing way to make a political and emotional point.

Oh well, hypocrisy has always sat comfortably close to the left.

    • Paulus

One “Worker” on radio yesterday said that in addition to his cargo “work” he was actually a builder, and that his building work was interrupted by not being able to give a firm building timeline, but he found time to quote for building work.
      Damn tough I think.

  • cornershop…not

Destruction of family life?? If the Union wasn’t making these guys picket all day long, then they would have worked their measley hours already, been paid for a full day, and already be home enjoying a beer and watching reruns of Outrageous Fortune, and counting their cash!
Unions really are the biggest liars and should be categorised in the same class as Global Warming believers = dreamers
Apu has spoken. Thank you come again.

  • Spiker

I feel a competition coming on to see who can replace the wording on the sign the best..

    • Agent BallSack

      I take that challenge!

  • Adolf Fiinkensein

The poor bastard can’t afford socks.  I wonder if they just dragged him out of a dementia unit?

  • Agent BallSack

Here’s a blank one for everyone to have a go at. Should be easier in paint now.

  • Kosh103

So how much are the directors paid for their 9 meetings then WO?

    • Rockfield

Kosh, you really do live with your head up your fundamental orifice.  The POAL directors’ (or any others of substance) duties do not start and end with Board Meetings.  There is a truck load of work that each particular functionary on the board must perform/produce for tabling and dissemenation at each meeting.  Rest assured they don’t just meet, have a cup if tea and a natter about the current state of NZ Cricket..

      R.

      • Don’t forget the regulatory risk these days is significantly increased after Simon Power changed the law to allow Directors to be pursued far more rigorously. it is a matter of risk and reward.

      • Kosh103

My my, what a lovely little rant.

Now, any idea what the directors are paid?

    • Agent BallSack

How much do Union officials get paid to fuck up things for the rest of the country Kosh?

      • Kosh103

If by fuck the country up you mean defend workers from the attacks on them from rich pricks – not enough.

      • Agent BallSack

How the hell do you reconcile people on 90 thousand dollars a year with being protected from the rich pricks? The ARE the rich pricks.

      • Sars
      • Lunacy

the officials are on around the same as the wharfies which is 91k+. Dont forget the free travel and accomodation to attend bull shit conferences

    • Sars

I think you can see in this post that the total directors fees paid for 2010 was $425k
So over six directors that would be $70,833.33 per director – although some may be paid more and others less
      http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/2012/01/stupid-is-as-stupid-does-ctd-3/

The other people commenting are also quite correct – directors duties are well set out in The Companies Act http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1993/0105/latest/DLM319570.html

And the potential punishments in an amendment to the Act introduced in December http://www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2011/0344/latest/whole.html

Directors have a huge amount of responsibility to all stake holders in the business – you can see the impact of seriously poor directorship in the finance companies that have failed. For the level of responsibility involved, I don’t think you could say that those salaries are excessive.

      • Kosh103

70K you say. Sorry I dont buy that. Way to low.

      • Sars

How can you not ‘buy it’ – did you not read what I attached? All payments to directors and any entities related to them must be stated in the annual accounts. There is no way to hide payments to directors through companies or trust or any spider-web of entities. It is that simple.

In the face of evidence – published, audited and legislated evidence – you still don’t believe what is right there in front of your face? Please, take the time to read the legislation and do some research – that is what they were paid in 2010. Plain and simple.

Kosh, WO provided the POA financial statement in pdf form. It’s right there – $425,000 in total for directors fees. If $425k divided by 6 isn’t $70,833.33, then what do you think it is?

  • EX Navy Greg

    How ’bout this..

    • Agent BallSack

      HAHAHAHA +1

    • Anonymous

You can’t see his thumbs because they’re actually up his arse.

  • Brian Smaller

Kosh – those ‘workers’ are rich pricks.

  • Sars

Ok so some more looking into things…relationship to Ports of Tauranga:
Maritime Union of New Zealand Incorporated owns:
Maritime Union Stevedores Limited which in turn owns 50% of:
Auckland Stevedoring Company Limited. Other 50% held by:
TLNZ Auckland Limited which is wholly owned by C 3 Limited who are:
50% owned by Ports of Tauranga.

GASP! It’s a conspiracy by POT to use the Auckland branch of the Maritime Union to disrupt POAL and send major customers to Tauranga

(Please note…I don’t really believe that, but if the Union people had found something similar they would be jumping up and down telling anyone who would listen that everything is corrupt!)

    • Gazzaw

I wonder how much Parsloe receives as a director of Maritime Stevedores & Auckland Stevedoring. I do not have the time or resource to do a full search of the companies involved but it would be a fascinating exercise and could be a tad embarassing for Kosh.
Unlike Kosh I would not have a probelm with Parsloe getting director’s fees as it is a demanding job if he is doing a decent job of it.

      • Sars

Directors fees are only reportable if the entity doesn’t qualify for differential reporting…as all the companies involved in the look up I did (with the exception of Ports of Tauranga) are closely held (less than 5 shareholders) they probably all qualify and have no legal requirement to publish directors’ remuneration.

Here are the companies that Parsloe is related to (four companies, all four as director and a shareholder in one) http://www.business.govt.nz/companies/app/ui/pages/individual/search?roleType=ALL&q=garry%20parsloe

      • Gazzaw

Spread over four companies would probably equal if not better the $70k earned by the PoAL directors particaulerly if he is picking ap a shareholder’s divvy as well. what say you Kosh? I don’t hold any concerns as he has put his balls on the line to act as a company director but you may have a philosophic problem with the MUNZ boss pulling all that money in off the sweat of the workers’ backs.

      • EX Navy Greg

Is it just a coincidence that all the companies registered offices are all in the MUNZ building?

      • Sars

You’re dead right…although a director search on the POAL directors will probably bring up more than one entry as well. At least they are directors of companies that transparently publish their financial information and we can probably find out quite easily what they earn off directorships.

As for Parsloe et al? I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting to hear those remuneration statistics. For people that seem to monitor this site pretty closely there has been very little noise out of them today.

The companies office website is a bit like Hansell and Gretal…follow the breadcrumbs and you’re bound to find something. It’s just a shame there is no ‘search by registered address’ function so we could see all the companies registered out of that office.

  • Quintin Hogg

On the directors fees.  They form part of the financials that are auditied by POAL’s auditors who are Deloitte.

If there had been any element of double dipping as claimed by Ms Bright and repeated by others then that would have been identified by the Auditor in his report and addressed by the company.

And I agree with Kosh, the total pool of directors fees is way too low by comparison to equivalent public companies.  It should be increased.

  • Super Guest

Uh, a director, the boss, SHOULD be getting paid more than some unskilled warfie. Does the fact that the directors are paid not that much for a director of a major port detract from the fact that the stevedores are overpaid unskilled union hacks?

    • Agent BallSack

      Not at all

  • Thorn

Could Wayne be Kosh? Scrawny, scruffy,  pigeon-chested old fart, clearly more used to polishing a chair rather than doing any meaningful work.

    “Hat :  $39.95
    Shoes :  $89.95
    Walk socks :  $19.95
    Nicking Parsloe’s walk-shorts and undies :  PRICELESS”

  • Steve and Monique

My husband just finished doing 15 straight nightshifts as a Security Officer, a very dangerous position dealing with lock ups, noise control, dogs and patrols etc and will be getting what these wankers get for 5 days “work” I suspect. Someone grab me a tissue, i’m fuckin crying buckets here! You lot and your shit stirring union thugs deserve everything you get from the public, you have no idea or appreciation of the real world the rest of us have to deal with. Work hours like my husband and others like him, then you’ll have a reason to bitch about lack of family time. Suck it up you bunch of whining nancies!
