A referendum for Britain?

The veto is gone now, and now there is no other option now other than a referendum on whether or not Britain pulls out of the EU.

The People’s Pledge is a cross-party EU referendum campaign seeking to have a referendum on Britain’s future in the EU.

A major political campaign aimed at securing a historic referendum on whether Britain should stay in the EU or quit Brussels for good was launched today.

The cross-party ‘People’s Pledge’ campaign aims to pile pressure on party leaders and MPs to support a poll that would settle the divisive question of EU membership once and for all.

It hopes to emulate Barack Obama by harnessing the power of the internet to mobilise support in every constituency.

Polling for the campaign launch shows that 61 per cent would like a referendum on whether Britain should remain within the European Union, with just 25 per cent against. A majority of supporters of all three parties back the idea.

It means support for a referendum on the EU is more than double the level for the referendum on changing Britain’s voting system planned for May 5.

Daniel Hannan is speaking in support of the campaign:

Sounds good. Hopefully they will have it, the vote will be for a UK pullout, and Europe can sink by itself.

Daniel Hannan is the best ORATOR in the world today.  To see him hoe in against Van Rompoy et al is a joy to behold they have no answer to his reasoning.

He is eloquent, well read and speaks the truth as he sees it, not the double speak and gobble de gook of 95% of all pollies

Nigel Farage, UKIP leader and MEP, also gets stuck into the European technocrats Van Rompoy and Barosso particular favoutrites

Couldn’t agree more with thor and CC. No weasel words with Hannan, he says it like it is, and no doubt speaks for the majority of true blue Brits. In one part of his speech, referring to the British government, he said, “Sovereignty of Parliament in our tradition has always been shorthand for sovereignty of the people. It is the mechanism we use to hold our government to account. It is the way we ensure that they are our representatives, and not our rulers.” Something our own MP’s should be reminded of every day.

An excellent speech!  It’s the first time I’ve heard Hannan speak (I’ve listened to Nigel Farage a number of times, and he too is excellent).

Parliament subject to the people, what a great idea, politicians listening to the people and abiding  by referendum results, it’s a shame we don’t have that.

    They should do it. Like…now.

They dont even want to give the Scottish people a chance to have a referendum to decide whether they want the same status as the Isle of Man. ie NOT part of the United Kingdom but have the  Queen, so no chance of having the EU referendum
