Is Rick Right? Ctd

Rick Santorum has lots of views, some controversial others not so much. We have been looking at these over the past few days.

On reminding America that some view Mormonism as “a dangerous cult”. This is of course a direct attack on Mitt Romney who is a Mormon.

“Would the potential attraction to Mormonism by simply having a Mormon in the White House threaten traditional Christianity by leading more Americans to a church that some Christians believe misleadingly calls itself Christian, is an active missionary church, and a dangerous cult?” (Santorum’s Philadelphia Inquirer column, Dec. 20, 2007)

    I call BS here.

Rick Santorum – 5 years ago – is simply laying out what some other people (Christian and non-Christian alike) believe about the LDS Church. He does not endorse that view and, if you read the whole coulmn, you plainly see it is a thoughtful analysis of the intersection between deeply held faith and public politics.

    It ends with the following:

“Faith still matters in America. Mitt Romney showed it matters to him, too. He should be a viable choice for voters whose faith matters to them.”

What a scorching attack on Romney.

Christians yes , but whether they fit into protestant- Catholic group probably not.

Cult like  ?  Less so than Brian Tamaki and his ilk and  Bethren type churches

Aichear, Santorum isnt a religous leader why does he need to ‘analyse  faith’. In a political context he was attacking  Mormonism and Romney especially

Sigh. He’s a politician, which makes him quite suited to commenting on the effect faith can have on the decisions of a politician.

For the record, the LDS is clearly not a part of the Christian Church. It obviously esteems Jesus quite highly, as a lot of faiths do, but the simple fact is that the LDS does not adhere to the tenets of the Apostles Creed. That doesn’t make them evil or wrong or perfidious. It does mean that they aren’t really orthodox Christians.

Sigh…what does it matter which particular flavour of imaginary friend you think is cooler/righter/betterer than somebody elses imaginary friend?

Personally I think the Flying Spaghetti Monster (bless his noodly goodness) is better than all your false gods and idols, but I wouldn’t let it affect my choice of candidate for anything.

So you’re basically ignorant of religion and philosophy. That’s fine – good for you.

For the majority of the world population who are religious, and the plurality who are Christian, taxonomy is important. Doesn’t mean it dictates how you vote but as a private matter of faith it is not a small matter.
