Comment of the Day

From Jester on the post celebrating the fact that is is 61 years since a ship was last unloaded without union labour at the Ports of Auckland.

Parsloe: “Hello Maersk, Gary Parsloe here, you’ve been warned!”

Maersk: ” Gary who???”

Parsloe: “Parsloe, Gary Parsloe. I’m the big cheese of MUNZ!” and I’m warning you!”

Maersk: “MUNZ???”

Parsloe: Maritime Union in New Zealand!”

Maersk: “Where???”

Parsloe: Grrr….Don’t worry about it! Just be warned OK!”

Maersk: “Ummm. Ok?”

Maersk #2: “Who was that?”

Maersk: “Dunno….just some drunk warning me about cheese”

Memebers of the old NZSU and MUNZ have inflated opinions of themselves.

Signing crew on to deliver a ship to Aus and they were told that they needed a passport for the flight across the Tasman home

    One seamen said

“I dont need a passport I am a member of the Seamen’s Union”

    I kid you not

  • Agent BallSack

    It sums it up succinctly.

    Parsloe – Who?
    New Zealand – Where?

      Maersk #2: “Who was that?”
Maersk: “Dunno….just some drunk named Parsehole warning me about cheese”

” Hello Parsloe , Hans Moller here, we control Maersk”
Parsloe :Thanks for calling, we need to talk

Hans : I’ll do the talking, we  support the  far right in Denmark including during the occupation but making money comes first. Well screw both PoAL and PoT and you too . Goodbye

    • Agent BallSack

I don’t think POT is even on Maersk’s agenda. Stop trying to drag a non-unionised work force into a union scrap.

      Know your history please.

The Germans threatened to raise the Swastika over Copnehagen.  The King said I will send a soldier to take it down.  The Germans said We will shoot that soldier, I will be that soldier said the King.  The Swastika was never raised.

The Danes heard that the Germans were going to round up all the Jews.  The Danes managed to get the vast majority across to Sweden under the noses of the Germans.

The Danes also fought bravely on the allied side and all Danish Mercvhant Vessels were used by the Allies.

      • Hakim of phut

Conway Captain, respectively I have to disagree. Your shipping knowledge is unsurpassed and its true that Maersk ships  joined the Allies but since the German navy writ didnt extend out of the Baltic what could the company  do ?. Individual crew and Captains  would have gladly served for the Allies.
AP Moeller stayed in Denmark where the official policy was collaboration, and the company  shipyards and arms factories worked for the Germans. It took a strike in the Odense shipyard  in 1943 to begin the change in official policy: NB strike by workers not lockout by employers. The comparison with Norway is enormous, they fought the Germans from the first hours of the War, sinking the brand new heavy cruiser Blucher. The royal family left for  Britain. The Dutch in a similar strategic position at least tried to resist, and 70 years before the Danes resisted the Prussians as well.

      • ConwayCaptain

Every shipyard and arms factory in occupied Europe worked for the Germans.

Alfred Holts had two ships being built in Copenhagen and they were taken over and finsihed as Armed Merchant Raiders though they never sailed.  The pinnace on one of these ended up at my Cadet School.

The Swedes collaborated with the Germans and Sten A Olsen who founded Stena Line sold steel to the Germans and made a fortune. It wasnt until 1943 when it was obvious that German woukld lose the war that the Turnips actually started selling stuff to the Brits.

      • Hakim of phut

Louis Renault in France lost his business at Liberation because of the collaboration like A P Moeller.
In contrast Marcel Bloch’s aviation company  which was renamed Dassault after the war , after the name of his brother who was in the resistance  while Marcel was in Buchenwald.

  • Mrbadger

HoP  “respectively I have to disagree” – why not try “respectfully” it actually makes more sence

    • Hakim of phut

thats more sense not sence , nitpicker
