Gower on Shearer

Patrick Gower’s blog

Patrick Gower espouses my beliefs about politics as he explains why David Shearer should stick to delivering exam papers:

Iam willing to go on record and say I was wrong when I was overly critical of Shearer not “playing the game” earlier in the year.

He doesn’t have to be commenting on every issue, and he can say “happy Waitangi” if he likes – the punters love that kind of stuff.

But politics is politics.

Sometimes you have got to play the game.

Sometimes you have got to put a hit on.

And that means putting a bullet in the gun. And firing it.

Or someone else – one of the other Opposition leaders – will do the job.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him.  But you can’t ignore him.
