Boing Boing

I guess this is the problem with maintaining the illusion of celibate priests:

A Northern Irish priest has sparked a local uproar after accidentally displaying a series of pornographic gay images to a group of parents during at a primary school meeting.

As the BBC is reporting, Father Martin McVeigh projected 16 “indecent images of men” onto a screen as part of a Powerpoint presentation during a March 26 meeting for parents in preparation for First Holy Communion for their children at St. Mary’s School in Pomeroy. One eight-year-old child is also reported to have been present during the meeting, according to The Ulster Herald.

“He was visibly shaken and flustered,” one parent who was present during the meeting told the BBC. “He gave no explanation or apology to the group and bolted out of the room. The co-ordinator and the teachers then continued with the presentation.” The parent also noted that those who saw the pictures “were horrified and distracted.”

If it isn’t buggering of altar boys, it’s gay porn.

    Clerical oversight or Protestant sabotage?

  • Richard McGrath

I can just picture Father Jack (from the programme ‘Father Ted’) making that mistake, and then shouting “Feck!”

  • Good, another one exposed.

I’ve had enough of these gay priests – they are not suited to celibate life, and the sooner they are exposed, the better.

    • Kosh103

And please explain as to why someone who is catholic and gay cannot be a priest.

      • Alloytoo

Any Christian Priest can be gay so long as he/she is celibate. To be anything else would contravene Christian Doctrine.

This isn’t a comment as to the validity of the doctrine, merely an expectation that priests be the first to adher to it.

      • Kosh103

Only catholics have to be celibate.

      • Pukakidon

Get back to teaching Kosh 13:30, I am not paying my taxes for you to be cruising the Internet.

      • Richard McGrath

The issue here, Kosh, is that priests are not allowed to use pornography (another reason not to be a priest). The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, in respect to the sixth commandment from on high (“thou shalt not commit adultery!”):

“Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.”

      • Kosh,

Anyone who defines themselves by their sexuality is unsuited for celibate life.  Priests have to be celibate and gay men define themselves by their sexuality (and seem to have a lot of trouble than most staying away from sexual temptation) … ergo, they shouldn’t be priests.

There is a Vatican document that goes into this in more detail : http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/ccatheduc/documents/rc_con_ccatheduc_doc_20051104_istruzione_en.html

      • Kosh103

Oh lucia that is just plain garbage.

Most gay men do not define themselves by their sexuality. Not at all. And if you are using ANYTHING the Cathloic church puts out about homosexuals, then you need to find a more honest source of information.

    • Kosh103

Im not overly worried if the priest was looking at porn Richard. It was the comment about having enough of these gay priests that I was honing in on.

But I notice the person who posted the comment has yet to come back to this thread and reply. Either that or they are chosing not to reply.

      • Alloytoo

“Only catholics have to be celibate.”

        Yes,

Non-Catholic priests are welcome to boink or even bugger their spouses (of the opposite sex) as much as they want.

BUT All Christian priests should abstain from homosexual intercourse.

To be anything else would contravene Christian Doctrine.

Again, not a comment as to the validity of the doctrine, merely an expectation that priests be the first to adher to it.

      • Kosh103

Wrong alloytoo. It in no way contravenes any teachings of christ. None at all.

      • Alloytoo

“Wrong alloytoo. It in no way contravenes any teachings of christ. None at all.”

Wrong Kosh103, the doctrine of the church is (like it or not) not exclusively the teachings of Christ.

    • kehua

Seems like he exposed enough LM.

  • Blokeintakapuna

Hypocrits! The church tries to proclaim some form of moral high ground whilst believing they have some kind of mandate to actually tell others how to live their life – yet all along the Church throughout history and around the Globe have caused more wars / fighting / trouble than any other organisation.

Plus they’re tax free, often above scrutiny by law enforcement whilst deliberately hiding and shuffling around known peadophiles…

    Holier than holy.. Yeah RIght!

    • isumbras

I expect you’ve been reading Dawkins et all…… You are completely ill informed… Encyclopedia of Wars, (2005) a 1,502 page compendium compiled by nine reputable professors of history chronicles 1,763 wars throughout recored history until the present day, (and counting each of the ten crusades as a separate war), and saw fit to categorize only 123 of them as religious wars… that is 6.98 percent. half of which, 66 were waged by Islamic nations.
One doesn’t need to think very hard in casting their mind to the previous century and the conflicts/ideologies that were responsible for the truly horrific body counts that make those of religious wars appear a tea party by comparison…..

      • tspoon

there you go again ruining a perfectly good slagfest with all your facts and figures. no one is here to debate facts, they’re here to righteously affirm their superiority as evidenced by the single fact of their not attending a church.

    • Mr_Blobby

With you on this one. The Holier than thou are at the bottom of most of the Worlds problems.

      • Boss Hogg

At the bottom or In the bottom ?????  or Up ??

    • Stevo

      I’m with you there Bloke.
Religion, the longest running criminal fraud ever.

  • grumpy

    Whale regains sanity………………………………

  • The Baron

BAHAHAHA where is all the god squad that lurk on this blog now? Get your pitchforks out freaks – surely your Zombie Son of God frowns on this sort of thing!

The HOMOS are coming to ruin society again, or something! Run for the hills!

    • Duncan Brown

The God squad I mix with would consider the evidence of misconduct, or not, and respond with correction if need be. The guy needs help.

Lurking? No, like you, just taking part in a rational conversation :-)

      • The Baron

Oh yeah, which aspect of believing in magically belevolent sky people is the rational part of the conversation?

Because I guess therefore I have been believing in the wrong definition of rational. So to rectify, let me introduce you to Stan, a phlem-ball that I coughed up into a tissue the last time I had a cold. Turns out that he created the heavens and the earth in seven days too, and has asked me to write a book all about it to educate all of you heathens.

You’d be into that wouldn’t you Duncan? Its got about the same level of rationality as the mystical, bigoted mumbo jumbo you believe in after all.

      • nzd.gbp

Please write that book so we can decide whether your flem ball is the real deal.

      • Duncan Brown

You display remarkable faith, I sincerely hope it is not misplaced.

  • Alloytoo

At least it was gay porn, not kiddie porn.

    • Richard McGrath

Yes, but he showed it to an 8 year old child. He will be roasted slowly over a bunsen burner by Beelzebub for that indiscretion.

      • Alloytoo

Nope, he will ask for and received consequentless absolution.

The eight year old will however go on to become a serial buggerer & frotter while being an otherwise upright citizen…….condemnation awaits him.

  • STEVE AND MONIQUE

Guess he wont make that mistake again. Sunday mass will be fun in his parish,NOT.

    • Richard McGrath

It will be Sunday masturbation, not Sunday mass, for Father McVeigh. hang on, the Catechism has something to say about that too:

By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. “Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.”
“The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of “the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved.”

    • Gazzaw

I still reckon that it was the feckin Protestants that sabotaged his Powerpoint presentation.

  • Gummo

    Just before ‘Palm Sunday’ too.

    • insider

Is that before or after Fist Friday?

      • Mr_Blobby

No. Mrs. Palmer and her 5 skinny daughters are first.

      • Pukakidon

Looks like all the priests are going to get together to have a good old mass-debate over the content of the PowerPoint.

  • Richard B.

“He gave no explanation or apology to the group and bolted out of the room. The co-ordinator and the teachers then continued with the presentation.”

Did he bolt after the first picture, and then they continued with the other 15?

  • Evan Johnson

It look like he tried a cover up – removing his stick, his memory stick that is.

  • jay cee

16 images huh? his cup runneth over, no doubt.

  • Evan Johnson

    Is the Pope a Catholic?

    • Random66

Are you serious?  If so, then yes he is Catholic.

      • Kosh103

Have you never heard that saying before????

      • Random66

Hi Kosh, no I haven’t heard that saying before.  I don’t move in Catholic circles.  Could you please enlighten me what it means so that I don’t make a fool of myself again.  Thanks.
