Why aren’t others stood down?

NZ Herald

The NZ Herald notes that David Shearer is applying an interesting test in his reasoning for not standing down Shane Jones:

Shearer has rejected Key’s claim he is being hypocritical and says he would stand his MP Shane Jones down if Mr Jones was under police investigation.

Interesting…using that test…why isn’t Charles Chauvel now warming the naughty chair, or Megan Woods? they are currently being investigated by Police.

Of course the Shane Jones case is much worse than the other two, and certainly worse than the manufactured allegations against John Banks who was a private citizen at the time.

Shane Jones in contrast was a minister, making a decision that benefited materially a donor to the Labour party and to several MPs.

It is almost past time to stand him down, rather he should be sacked in disgrace. If his defence is, “some high up official told me that Liu would be executed”, and he took no other advise from anyone else on that issue, he should be out on his ear with a boot up his arse.

    • AnonWgtn

      Name the High Up Official.
      No guesses

  • Well said WO; Chauvel is being investigated by the Police for an alleged breach of the Electoral Act. He is Labour’s Justice spokesman, and guess which portfolio electoral law falls under? Yep; Justice.

Mr Shearer has painted himself into another corner.

    • AngryTory

Mr Shearer has painted himself into another corner.

Shearer betrayed himself and NZ when he joined the Labour party.

      He deserves nothing but contempt

The only way he can possibly apologize is to jump off the harbor bridge.

  • Gravedodger

If Mr Liu was gunna be shot that would have definitely dried up the funding stream that was so generous to Labour and they might have had to cough for the Bullet as well.

  • Le Sphincter

Careful , there is broken glass where you are heading…
The NZ Herald reports that National List MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi is under Police investigation in relations to a job offer or offers he made to prospective immigrants before he was an MP.

    • Oh before he was an MP…so Shearer’s rule should apply..glad you agree..but note the massive diffference…Banks was a private citizen, Bakshi was a private citizen…Shane Jones was a Minister!

      • Le Sphincter

And the Aussie union official…. that was before he was an MP.?
The Liberal senator was convicted …nothing
        Nick Smith was convicted ….nothing

Your whole point on these matters is what?

Thompson has been kicked out of the labour party, while the  Liberal Senator was not touched
And Nick Smith …was he only guilty of helping his constituents that 2 High court judges couldnt see ?

      • AngryTory

JonesCuntliffeCosgroveGoffKingClark – all took dosh for citizenship

        That’s 14 years. Each.

Bakshi & Banks are beatups- nothing more.

  • Kosh103

It would seem both Labour and National are hip deep iffy forgin dealings. The whole system needs revamping IMO, and perhaps if this is how MPs are going to carry on, the final descision be taken out of their hands.

    • Tim

I agree kosh, the minister shouldn’t be having the final say. Too open to things like this, leave it up to the immigration officials.

    • Sarrs

No side is really looking the moral high ground at the moment. Labour members acting dodgy while they are in parliament, Nation members acting dodgy while they are private citizens…doesn’t really matter when it happened, dodgy-ness still happened.

    • AngryTory

      Bullshit. Utter bullshit.

Labour is corrupt through and through.  Their whole existence is predicated on their being the political wing of the corrupt and communist union movement.   If NZ loved freedom our constitution would never let any of ’em near the levers of power.

Hell, we’d never let ’em take another breath.

Show one good thing Labour ever did for NZ?

    • Pukakidon

Kosh 1 hour of silence, man up and answer the question

  • Polishpride

Banks being a private citizen or an MP makes know difference if he actively sought to get around election disclosure of funding laws by having dotcom split a 50,000 payment that would have needed to be delared into two 25,000 payments so they would not. It is all another arguement for true democracy IMHO.

    • johnbronkhorst

Of course it makes a MASSIVE difference you idiot!!!!!!!!  A private citizen doesn’t make laws, he is just expected to obey them. An MP makes the laws, he is expected to behave in a manner EXCEEDING a normal citizen for that reason. In this case neither of these PRIVATE CITIZENS broke the law. But there is MASSIVE WRITTEN evidence that jones cosgrove and cunliffe may have acted corruptly, around donation to the labour party and the citizenship of this jerk! As for 50 000 or 2 of 25 000 makes no difference there is NO   P R O O F what so ever that these were anything but annonamous donations…..read the word again P R O O F !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • AngryTory

jones cosgrove and cunliffe may have acted corruptly,

may have. no, the evidence is clear, they sold citizenship for labour party donations, and this was agreed on by the party’s central committee (whatever its called) and obviously cabinet.  And most likely the union bosses too.

All of ’em should be jailed, the party disbanded, the seats it “won” through fraud distributed to honest parties:

so that NZ can finally undo the 100 years of damage done by Labour

  • Guest

Haha that was a good come back from Shearer.  Stand someone down when and only when they are being investigated by the police.
    “that politician’s got amnesia again….”

  • johnbronkhorst

A bielection in New Lynn (cunliffe)…would be interesting, since National out polled labour in cunliffes seat. So withou him…who knows what might happen.

    • AngryTory

Only because for some stupid reasons corrupt parties are allowed to stand candidates.

In a just world, I would be interesting:  it should be National vs ACT vs Craig.

      • AngryTory

So Jones should be gone, and another Nat come in on the Nat list.

Cuntliffe should be gone, and Tim Grosser appointed to the seat, bringing another Nat in on the list.

At which point, the Nats would have 61 seats, govern alone

And we might finally get some fucking action
