Girls can’t park

Sydney Morning Herald

Everyone knows girls can’t park cars or back trailers…and a German town is catering for this:

The mayor of a German town has sparked controversy by introducing special “easy” parking spots for women.

Mayor Gallus Strobel, from the Black Forest town of Triberg, told Germany’s Spiegel magazine he introduced the spots because men were better at parking than women.

The women’s spaces, which are marked by female symbols, are reportedly better lit and wider, while the men-only spots have concrete pillars to negotiate and can only be reversed into.

Strobel told the magazine that women were welcome to attempt parking in the men-only spots, but that “men are, as a rule, a little better at such challenges”. He denied accusations of sexism, pointing out that there were 10 women-only spots in the carpark compared to only two men-only spots.

He said he hadn’t noticed a big backlash against the scheme, but had been surprised by the level of interest from international media, which he said was good for local tourism.

“Women can come here and prove me wrong, and while they’re at it they can see the town’s attractions,” he told the magazine.

The feminist part of me wants to hate this story … but I love it and wish we could have the same here! I hate everything about parking.

    WORLD RECORDS  – Women

    Car Parking:

The smallest kerbside space successfully reversed into by a woman, was one of 19.36m equivalent to three standard parking spaces, by Mrs.E.Simpkins (Auckland) driving an unmodified Mazda 121 on 12th October 2005. She started the maneouvre at 11:15am in St Lukes and successfully parked within three feet of the pavement, 8 hours 14mins later. There was slight damage to the bumpers and mudguards of her own and the two adjoining cars, as well as shop frontage and two lampposts.

Wimmin can’t reverse a car into a garage without hitting someone or something – but can they spot a speck of dust on another chick in a black dress at 100yards – sure can!

  • Paranormal

Amazing that articulating blokes parking rules that have been in effect since – forever, has made the news.

My missus is a menace in a carpark, but can fly a helicopter and talk on the cellphone at the same time. The female of the species is wired up differently to men.

And let’s all give thanks for that!

Thanks for the warning – can you post here when she’s in the air???

    • Symgardiner

You know the definition of multi-tasking – doing two things badly. I’d like that warning too please.

  • AzaleaB

Ironically just yesterday I left a note on a blokes windscreen asking him to park better next time as his right rear tyre was fully across my carpark and evry clsoe to my left rear bumper. I returned to my car to find he had converted a conventional park into an angle park thru lazy “drive in at speed and…that’ll do” style parking. Saw him do it as I was returning to my car. Took a fair bit of care to reverse out.

BTW – I am female and can park well, reverse a trailer, tractor, farm bike(quad). Now to finally break the silly stereotyping on this post…wait for it…. I am blonde.

What are you doing on Saturday night?

*Yawn* nothing bores me more than hearing some woman getting upset about this and screaming sexism; yet just about every other day we males are bombarded with crap about how superior women are with multi-tasking, empathy, etc etc etc. The least desirable characteristic of what passes for modern feminism is the creation of a new breed of hypocritcal, easily offended princesses.

    • AzaleaB

Screaming sexism – where? A bit of a jump there buddy! My response was in good humour…where is yours?

Maybe not so good when backing a car,and get criticism. When they back up their bums, in certain positions they get plenty of  accolades.

  • Mediaan

Cars are designed by men. Therefore they can be parked better by men. QED

    • AzaleaB

Actually you are on to something. From a brain perspective research tells us men are more spatial in the ability to process information and this assists activities such as parking. Women are less spatial ( hence the map being turned upsidedown to read).

         Mediaan and AzaleaB
You ladies might be on to something there.  Cooking utensils and cleaning products and equipment are designed for and by women.   Maybe men should do all the driving and women should do all the cooking and cleaning.

I am better at parking than my wife and she is much better at cleaning and cooking than I am.  A bloody great idea, I will be the first to volunteer to give up my cleaning and cooking responsibilities.   However I am not sure my lovely wife will agree.

you’re saying men are more onto it and smarter than women?..i knew that already

    • Ford

cars to not discriminate between the can either drive or you can’t

    • Ford

you blame men for women’s inability to drive

  • tarkwin

They should try that here, my wife is a disaster in a carpark.

  • jay cee

my wife can only back the car 3/4 way down the drive then i have to park it the garage. hats off to azaleaB, i cant back a trailer to save myself.

Had a very interesting talk today with a friend. Both of us agreed that we now see the world through both male and female eyes because we both have had to take on Male roles in order to survive. We now have a better understanding of the stresses and difficulties Men face as we have had to act like Men in order to protect and provide for our families. Her example was when she had to take her child’s rabbit to the vet. Before she was on her own she would have said do whatever it takes to save the bunny and her husband would have argued that it was a waste of money and would be cheaper to buy a new bunny. She would have thought him heartless. However once the decision was on her shoulders ( no husband, her now the provider ) she told the Vet to put down the bunny ( wearing her Dad hat ) then walked outside to comfort her sobbing child.

men being better at driving and parking/reversing is not sexist..whats sexist is women having their own carparks and men not allowed to use them..thats sexist feminist shit

  • Ford

if women cant drive..dont give them a license
