Cut it down FFS

It is a tree FFS.  How the hell does a tree end up costing this much?

$6951 charged by Auckland Transport (costs case for resource consent, engineer and arborist’s fees plus travel charges)
$2832.38 by Auckland Parks, Sports & Recreation (incurred costs $1294 plus budgeted removal costs $1538.38)
$2516 for resource consent processing
$12,299.38 total costs to date

Where is Sandra Goudie and her chainsaw these days?  Her words from 2005 certainly apply here:

“These people are sick of the political correctness crap. They don’t mind a bit of oversight or a few guidelines, but they just want tools to manage it, or they want [Council] to manage it.

“We’ve got to knock some of this red tape on the head.”

Auckland needs a redneck to sort this crap out.

I have a problematic pohutukawa tree. I just wait for a particularly windy night and then “ahem” trim off the “ahem” damaged branches. Much simpler.

  • Peter

Maybe get Mike Smith, he knows how to chop a tree down.

  • kevin

Just bullshit isn’t it… clearly a dangerous tree. Just prune the shit out it, get some semblance of shape and hope it survives.

  • Gazzaw

What a load of neo-liberal horseshit. It’s a pity that these people haven’t got more important issues to keep themselves busy. A good fucking earthquake would sort out their priorities for them. Just the sort of pretentious pricks that are ‘surviving’ on $2.25 a day this week. How about they sit down and agree to prune the pohutukawa (the rat of the bush by the way) and donate the wad of cash to the starving of the world rather than to litigious lawyers. Like fuck they will, you don’t get your photo in the paper for doing something logical.

Here in Wellington , we just get the Council in to cut the natives…just shows how meaningless this whole mass of consent law has become .

Wellington’s councils are scrambling to restore south coast
residents’ trust after destroying native trees in Rangitatau reserve
      last month.

The residents were angry when they found more than 1000 karo, karaka, pohutukawa and other native trees had been cut down, ring-barked or poisoned by Wellington City Council and Wellington Regional Council staff.

And all of the above grow like weeds anyway.

  • Mr_Blobby

Better not to plant the fucker in the first place.

I guess we still have to get the Iwi blessing after suitable consultation (and generous koha). That should put the costs up a bit more.
And then we can look forward to the Maori claims for compensation for cutting down their taonga.God, don’t ya just love this country!

How the hell does something like this have anything to do with political correctness? More a case of extortion, thievery , corruption, usury. Call it for what it is, scumbags, parasites, leeches, con men,con woman trying to take what is not there’s because they can get away with it.

    • Mr Sackunkrak

This is what happens when we let the grey ones insert their “consent” between us and obvious solutions.

  • maninblack

the red tape dealing with auckland city is a fucking nightmare.
That is the sole reason that houses and construction is just so expensive. The time and expense associated with building is literally out of control.

  • Steve (North Shore)

If the tree falls and kills someone as happened in London, who will take responsibility?
It sure as fuck won’t be the tree huggers, watch the bastards duck for cover then

  • Travis Poulson

I’ll cut the cunt down, no worries. It’s just a tree, hell, I’ll even plant another one somewhere else to compensate. Pohutakawa trees are a fuckin’ dime a dozen. They’re not rare, and not hard to grow.

    • Travis Poulson

Even got a couple of seedlings here at home for her to stick in her pipe and smoke.

  • Travis Poulson

But the money will be wasted after a local board got wind of the move and, following urging from tree enthusiasts, voted to seek alternatives.”

Oh this is just awesome. 1: for the local board trying hard to maintain a money wasting stereotype, and 2: “tree enthusiasts”.

Auckland doesn’t need a redneck to sort this out, just someone with common sense. (and a chainsaw)

  • kehua

Unfucking believable. Right up thre with the South Waikato councils $60,000 wild dog vendetta. These Councils are turning into moron institutions.
