Things are getting ugly inside Labour:

Some Labour MPs are openly gunning for David Cunliffe and have called his actions “dishonest” after Mr Cunliffe told media this morning that no leadership challenge was imminent, but he would not rule it out in February.

Labour MP and senior whip Chris Hipkins said Mr Cunliffe had “openly undermined the current leadership” and should either openly challenge Mr Shearer or leave.

“He’s made it clear he intends to challenge for the leadership. I think saying he’s not going to do so until February is dishonest and disingenous. He needs to bring it on.”

He said Mr Cunliffe should be open and upfront about his intentions.

“Weasel words about supporting the leader for now simply don’t cut it.”

Just out of interest anyone willing to bet that Labour MPs will do an about face as soon as the sinking ship goes down and will be supporting the “new leader” whoever that leader will be?

    • Troy

My guess is that they will allow Shearer one more year to pull his act together, as well as the party – if he doesn’t cut the grade they will apply their new rule. Either way Cunliffe won’t survive this especially with people like Hipkins using the type of language he is using to call out Cunliffe. Cunliffe only needed to bide his time but is too impatient to hold the mantle of power – he will get his just desserts and the NZLP will be better for it.

Showdown at ok corral tomorrow could be fun.

    • davcav

Probably handbags by the sound of it.

  • conwaycaptain

If silent T wins tomorrow it wiill split the Party in two and there will just be continual blood letting. When the candidates for the 2014 elecvtion are chosen the winner of the Gunfight tomorrow will purge the members of te opposing side.

    • thor42

Yep – it’ll be **great** to watch!

  • Neil

This is sooo bloody stupid – one of the reasons I have no respect for the sociapaths in both politics and the MSM. How many times does someone have to say I’m not going to discuss this – or this is not the time nor the place to talk about this – for the interviewer to get just that point.

Oh so he wouldn’t say yes and he wouldn’t say no so what he’s actually saying is…….what exactly? I know let me put my own spin on this and create a story so then went it doesn’t happen better if it does happen then I can say – see I predicted it!!!

Absolute crap dealt out as journalism….

  • conwaycaptain

Whoever loses tomorrow will resign their seat and there will be a by election.
Jacinda Ardern will be parachuted into a safe labour seat.
That will leave one seat vacant. Bet you that Poofter Boy from Rongotai will be bought in.

    • Bunswalla

There will be no resignations tomorrow Captain. If there’s a vote, and Shearer is unanimously returned (which he will be) then there’s ostensibly nobody to demote. He hasn’t been challenged (publicly), he’s called the vote himself to head off an imminent challenge, and silent T has played it as well as he could by stating he will support Shearer in the vote.
Of course Cunliffe would have been far better to not look so smug when he got the change to the election protocols that he wanted, and if he’d publicly stated his support for Shearer in more effusive terms he could hardly be accused of plotting a coup – even if we all know that’s exactly what he’s doing.

      • Meg

Cunliffe is done for. He will be kicked to the back bench and shoved so far down the list that the Green Lantern will have a better chance of getting in than he will.

        • billodrees

Meg. Cunliffe is an Electorate MP with 6,000 vote majority. He is very very popular.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

My Labour insiders say Rajen Prasad is making his moves and he will also throw his hat in the ring. He seems to have the numbers now.

    • Patrick

would that be the “three ring circus” that he will throw his hat into?
Or have they all formed a circle ready for a quick game of soggy biscuit?

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Anybody who is thinking this is damaging Labour, rethink now. Kim Dotcon says he has proof that Emperor lied. That is going to hit Emperor and his cronies hard bros.

    • Doug

DotCon will say anything to stay in the Media limelight.

      • Pita

        And to circumvent extradition…

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Time to find a loophole in his permanent residency application and throw him out

    • tarkwin

If he’s got it why doesn’t he show it? It would give him the credibility he so craves. Why wait till march, his star is fading now. People are bored with the fat German side show.

      • Bunswalla

The proof is on a tape. David Shearer may or may not have the tape, if there is a tape. It’s not really the point whether there’s a tape or not, the point is if there was a tape and if the tape had some really damning content, that would not look very good, would it? Hypothetically.

        • tarkwin

I’m confused, are you trying to say Rufus Paynter is a German? Or is it just me…

          • Jester

I understand that Rufus has been busy today employing 9000 crippled painters for when the Labour Party construction division start the 100k homes in Auckland.

          • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Imagine the fat German on your roof….I am not sure you are insured….

        • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Bunswalla – I am disappointed to didn’t sprinkle any hmmss,,,uhh..ahh..

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

tarkwin – By mistake he has Sheep’s video and Sheep has his evidence…so…

  • Mark

I think Potsie must have stolen Richie Cunningham’s brylcreem – he looks furious

    • Liberty

Almost as rabid as Little pony in the house last week.

  • botti

Some interesting comments on the Standard on the situation.

    • cows4me

Yeah it’s good isn’t it botti, bit like a dog trying to bite a flea on it’s arse, around and around. The left in a spin.

    • CommonSense404

Excellent stuff – eating their own

  • John1234

Great photo. Love to know what Cunners is thinking.

The Labour apparatchik are an attractive bunch, aren’t they?

    • Jonny

After years of seeing Aunty Hulun each time I turned on the telly, they all looks like supermodels to me.

  • Liberty

“Although Mr Cunliffe said this morning he would
not mount an imminent challenge, he would not rule out such a move in February
and Mr Shearer has said that does not change the need for an immediate
    endorsement vote.”

So Labour stays fractured until Feb. before it implodes. How sad
    is that.

  • Travis Poulson

Chipskin looks irate, Cunliffe looks pissed off, the rest look confused except for the National Party spy giving Chipskin a slow clap.

    • LR

poor Chippy. Not a happy chappie.

    • Patrick

Whi is the old man to Chippie’s right – looks like Helun Klarke

      • Travis Poulson

Looks like Helen Kelly just above that, from Criminal Traitors Union.

  • DavidW

If Silent T beats the UN kid, Chippie has shot his bolt and will have little choice but to wave goodbye to the trough and get a real job. Hahahahahahah

  • Bunswalla

    What’s Pansy Wong doing there?

    • Patrick

That is actually Winston Peters – he has a new hair piece which is a bit deceiving as it makes him look like his Taiwanese ancestors

  • stinkeye

There would be nothing worse then Cunliffe if they wanted to get votes – anyone who was from Helen’s brigade would be seriously frowns upon.

Give it to Cindy, see if she sinks or swims

  • conwaycaptain

    Her’s a thought
No one wants Silent T, no one wants Shearer so they shove up Socialist Cindy

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Captain – please support my man Rajen Prasad

    • Patrick

At the same time? Both Shearer & Cunliffe – she would probably take offence.

  • Jonny

Who is the “Silent T” everyone keeps talking about?

    • Gazzaw

      • Helmet

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

      David Curryleaf

  • wiltinpenis

    I get this feeling
