My, my, isn’t Len Brown looking a picture of health?

From the Herald of course, where they employ “decent journalists, trained and skilled”:

LEN BROWN

For the benefit of Shayne Currie, David Fisher, and especially Simon Collins, that is in fact Phil Heatley.

See this shit

They are getting worser and worser.

Interesting. I remember some years back, the NSW Labour Party tried to order all Labour controlled councils to adopt a 35 hour week for their staffs.

Anyway, I think Celia will be out on her ear in November.

  • cows4me

God why do they even bother?

  • rouppe

Wouldn’t paying all workers a minimum of the “living wage” force costs of production up? And this would force prices up? Which means the “living wage” would no longer be able to afford all the things it is based on? And therefore not be a “living wage” anymore?

    • johnbronkhorst

A little maths fo you……..If wages go up by an average of $4 per hour (not everyone on the min wage). In company of 20 employees that over $150 000 increased costs in wages, plus 2% kiwisave and about 2% ACC levyso costs up $156 000 if profit margin is 50% means turnover (EXTRA slaes) must rise By $468 000 per year for ZERO gain to the company. This could mean a 10-20% rise in turnover /growth of the company, just to break even aganst this pay rise. In the case of councils etc, there are only 3 places they get money increased RATES/TAXES/LEVIES, COST OF SERVICES and B O R R O W I N G.

      • johnbronkhorst

As a reply to me…..A thought occured, Universities are on their target list. Will students protest at the increased fees and therefore student loans, when they increase to cover the increased wage bill???

      • Bunswalla

2% kiwisaver contribution? When did you last pay your staff?

        • johnbronkhorst

Remember this LABOUR policy now!!! Which goes with COMPULSORY kiwisaver, CGT and sundry other economy killing stupid ideas!!!

    • Tom

Easy way of explaining it to the economically illiterate: Why not just declare the minimum wage to be $100/hr? Surely that’ll solve everything?

  • Lofty

WO, after my questioning the need to point out the Heralds shortcomings yesterday, and seeing this basic cockup ….I unreservedly retract my questioning.
    Carry on. ;-)

    • Agent BallSack

Don’t be surprised to see a picture of Ghandi above the caption “David Shearer”. Fucking numpties don’t even know what the Mayor of Auckland looks like.

      • Tom

True although they look sort of similar, like inbred cousins..

  • kehua

Easy peasy Celia half your numbers and double the wages, there would probably be no noticeable difference in services provided.

  • tarkwin

All they are doing is inventing inflation, using their hostages (ratepayers) money to do it. I would love to pay my staff more but I’d go broke. It must be nice to have a money tree like these left leaners. Mind you I shouldn’t make jokes like this, the Whangarei council will probably decide everyone is worth $25 an hour.

  • It would seem, according to Simon Collins, that Wellington has a ‘Mayor’, but Auckland has a ‘Labour Mayor’.

  • Agent BallSack

I would like to put it to Celia Wade-Brown: How exactly is this improving core council services? What does this have to do with residents concerns, rubbish, water, health and housing issues? DO YOUR FUCKING JOB!

  • I blogged about this just before 8.30am, having been alerted to it by a FB friend. Within 15 minutes, the photo accompanying the online story had been changed. Bloggers may indeed not be “decent journalists, trained and skilled”, but the Herald is obviously following their work, and responding to it.

  • Ronnie Chow

This is a fucking joke , surely . Obama is pushing for a US$9 minimum wage , Thai manufacturers are crying foul over a Baht 300 minimum wage (NZ$12) PER DAY!
We are already in the top 6 countries (dollar adjusted) . Now the social engineers are going for the Guinness World Record !

Save us from these idiots , John Key . Get taxes OFF fuel , liberate housing policy and get this country moving . You are squeezing all the juice out of the economy , mate .

  • In Vino Veritas

I think the worst thing about the article is that the Mayors quoted are even thinking about giving the “living wage” any consideration. This surely proves the economic and financial ineptness of these people. I’ll be they can’t even run their own household finances, let alone the billions under their control via their councils.

  • Kacanga

The Horrid must hate us in Whangarei – first they kept flogging our fire engines and now they’ve snaffled our (mostly invisible) MP!

  • BR

Everyone should be paid a living wage. That way there will be more money available for the government and bureaucrats to help themselves to.

    Bill.
