Photo of the Day

Now here’s something cool.  An 860 kg block of gold ore, and the 30 g of gold that can be extracted from it.

Let’s have a look at some more photos about gold.

  • is pete jewish?

    • I don’t believe that I am. Nothing of it in my family history, and none of the genetic markers that people might say, aaah, he’s a Jew.

Photo of the day can come easy some days. Other days it takes a while to be inspired by something. I saw the first photo and was surprised what little yield there was from that rock. I have a bit of a tech/science bend, so that’s what made me look into a few more photos for today’s post.

An interesting question to ask is: Why gold? As a metal, it’s not as rare as we are made to think it is. Also, looking into countries’ monetary systems, it’s been fascinating to note few are now backed by “the gold standard“. Countries really are just printing any amount of paper money that they decide to create without it having to be backed by gold.

But where is most of the world’s mined gold now? Which countries have been stockpiling it? How would this affect the geopolitical situation if one of the non gold-backed countries were to default?

      maybe I am a Jew and I don’t know it? ;)
