Mikey Bloomberg needs a fat bastard tax

Michael Bloomberg’s planned soft drink tax took one in the chook:

A judge struck down New York City’s groundbreaking limit on the size of sugar-laden drinks shortly before it was set to take effect.

The judge agreed with the beverage industry and other opponents that the rule is arbitrary in applying to only some sweet beverages and some places that sell them.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has championed the rule as a pioneering move for fighting obesity. It follows on other efforts his administration has made to improve New Yorkers’ eating habits, from compelling chain restaurants to post calorie counts on their menus to barring artificial trans-fats in restaurant food to prodding food manufacturers to use less salt.

Taxing fat or sugar or anything else in food is going to be really hard. The Danes tried and it failed. There are so many food sources, and so easy to overlook one type of food and appear absurd because of it.

The far simpler way would be to tax the fat bastard, not the fat. If you are a fat bastard as measured by something like the BMI you impose high costs on society because you are a fat bastard. Fat bastards have expensive health issues, and that costs. A fat bastard tax would pass the costs of being a fat bastard onto the fat bastard rather than having society subsidise health care for fat bastard.

  • BMI would be the worst way to levy a FBT. Unless people are chronically underweight or hugely obese it is a Basically Meaningless Indicator of anything.

A ratio of height to girth would do nicely

What about a stupid bastard tax? Or a don’t give a f%ck tax? Then all the fat pricks could pay their way instead of everyone being penalised for the stupidity of the few – as is usually the case in the Socialist Republic of NZ

Bloomberg is a lefty tit. Let people put what they may in their bodies but if they get sick because their diet is the problem charge them for the treament. No money, there’s the door. Change your lifestyle or die, seems simple to me.

I want to know why I can only take 7kg of hand luggage on a 12 hour flight but have a fat bastard next to me with his gut all over my armrest.
