Presumably he was registered while he took upskirt photos

The teacher unions and the Teachers’ Council all oppose charter schools on the basis that there is no requirement to register teachers.

Apparently it is to protect other staff and students. However along, very long list of predators masquerading as teachers, presumably registered and therefore ‘safe’ are being paraded before the courts.

One such predator has now been named after his name suppression lapsed.

A high school teacher charged with making secret up-skirt videos can now be named as Douglas Haora Martin, who was formerly assistant principal at Lincoln High School.

Martin has abandoned a bid to keep his name secret with an appeal to the High Court, and the suppression order has lapsed today.

The deadline for filing the appeal papers – a period set by a judge when he refused name suppression last week – expired this morning and the Christchurch District Court office confirmed that no papers had been filed.

The school reacted to the lifting of suppression by issuing a statement from the principal, Linda Tame, who said she was outraged and angry about Martin’s behaviour.

“It’s an immense breach of trust,” Tame said.

“He was a respected and trusted member of staff so this will clearly have a significant impact on our students, the school and the wider Lincoln community.

“Support for Lincoln High School students, and the school’s community and staff are the most important things right now.”

I’ll start listening to the teacher unions when they start cleaning up their own scum. They are in the same category as the Catholic Church, sanctimonious hypocrites.

  • I’ve not read anywhere that this teacher was up to no good at his school, rather that he did his dirty work “around Christchurch”. If his offending involved women he saw on the street, in shops etc, away from the school grounds, rather than any of his students, I don’t see that his profession has anything to do with it.

Clearly you don’t have any school-aged daughters.

    • Cadwallader

      Are you serious?
If he was a policeman would it matter whether he practised his perversion in the police station or the wider community?
This weirdo’s job is fundamental to his behaviour. Do we know whether he exhibited his handiwork to pupils? Pupils deserve to be cosseted from creeps, hence the need for public condemnation and openly imposed punishment.
PS Teaching has long since ceased to be a “profession” in NZ. It is a trade union governed job…nothing more!

If I was an employer, if they did a really good job at what they had to do at work I couldn’t give a fuck what they did outside the office.

They could do cocaine off a strippers titties every Saturday night, but if they were 100% focused at work then that’s sweet.

        • Mr Sackunkrak

From what I’ve heard, I’m not sure coke off a stripper’s titties on a Saturday sets you up for a great Monday at work :)

        • Cadwallader

If that’s a typical weekend for you, where do I sign on?

        • Agent BallSack

The problem with cocaine off strippers titties is thats fucking expensive. In all likelihood your employee would be ripping you off to pay for that.

    • Jack The Ladd

With ideas like that I bet you are going to be a dam fine Judge when you grow up.

      • Cadwallader

        Indeed! Wet tram ticket time.

    • Bunswalla

      What a cock

    • pukakidon

Another teacher eh! You are sick! This deviant should be no near our children.

    • Mr Sackunkrak

Ah, so it’s all OK then, he hadn’t graduated to school girls. Thanks or clearing that up for us.

  • A sailor got 6 months from a Court Martial yesterday for similar offences, why is this guy being remanded on parole while they think about what to reward him with?

    • Orange

It even sounds like Martin was much worse. Navy justice for all looks like it would be better justice.

6 months in the Military prison is a hard graft. V few go back for a 2nd go. I sailed with someone who had been there.

    • Marc Williams

Yes, there is no recidivism in military prison, though most are expelled after serving their sentence. Shame we can’t manage to run our civilian facilities the same way – but then corrections staff would be out of a job after a few years!
