Sunday General Debate

Good morning and welcome to the Sunday General Debate. Plenty happened this week in NZ and around the world: a new Pope was elected, the Warriors lost….again, Shane Jones gets to sit a bit closer to Shearer, and it’s still not raining. The Gay Marriage Bill passed its second reading, and the Falkland Islanders gave the Argies the big finger.

Pope Francis celebrates by doing Gangnam Style.

So good to hear the sound of steady rain on a tin roof. Hope those that need it are getting it.

    • Steve R

I bet that there were alot of farmers dancing around naked last night . Just like Wal on footrot flats hahahah

    • Travis Poulson

Just my luck. Hasn’t rained in months, post that it still isn’t raining, rains.

      • Are you the rain man?

        • Travis Poulson

          • unsol

I hated these movies, but that man Bradley Cooper – he’s enough to make any straight man gay.

          • Travis Poulson

Zach Galifianakis not your cup of tea then?

          • unsol

Had to look up his name as didn’t realise you meant the guy in the picture! Hmmm, that’s like comparing Jennifer Lopaz & Rebel Wilson……I bet one is better about making marriages last than the other though. But good to always check out the eye candy & appreciate what God has made.

Btw, did you know Kate Middleton is considered hotter than J-Lo (FHM)? I personally cant see it – one is beautiful & curvy & the other is a stick figure that has been using far too much bee pollen on her face…

          • Travis Poulson

She’s a bit thin for sure, I’d be too worried about snapping her in half. Oops, hope the wife isn’t reading. I hope the catwalk model look phases out eventually. Maybe not in this lifetime. It just looks so bloody unhealthy.

          • unsol

I agree – they are clotheshorses as the whole point is for a shapeless frame so that the tailoring of the garment remains pure…..my gay brother is a fashion designer….now there’s a non stereotype…not! Too many women have gone too far in both directions – would be good to see more taking up the Marilyn Monroe example…but just not going all fantastic like that Kim lady. Anyway…! :)

  • Graeme

It’s a beautiful sound on my new roof and no leaks!

    • unsol

Same here on both counts – hanging out for winter so I can marvel how awesome that lovely new pricey colour steel is! Only a drizzle where we are – not even enough to stop hubby from mowing the lawns. We must be careful with what we wish for though…….or nek minute we will be complaining about floods!

      • unsol

Classic, a down vote about rain vs a new roof – how petty & irrelevant! Show your face child!

        • Travis Poulson

lol, that’ll teach ya for getting a new roof! Welcome to the ‘get downvoted for every comment’ club.

          • unsol

Haha yep, probably not fair to boast….but it was 37 years old!

Yeh noticed I may have joined the random down vote club…bit if a compliment really as they care enough to log in & strike.

Pity it’s probably the only thing they are good at going down on…..

            ba-dum-tshh…..! :)

          • Congrats! Trav and I have had our own personal down-vote fan for some time. The odd thing is, when it doesn’t happen for a while, you worry that they are ok! :)

          • unsol

I must be in fab company then! :)

          • Bunswalla

Ooops! Just realised you can tell who down-votes what…..hurriedly removes down vote on Trav’s comment above. Backs quietly away from the notebook…

        • Mostly_Harmless

Think of the poor roofless children!

          • unsol

Oh no, I completely forgot…suppose I better turn the breadmaker off & pull out all the veges & fruit trees as no doubt they’re hungry too :) (smiley face for trying to be clever, not for useless egg/sperm donors who cant be bothered being parents!).

        • Bunswalla

It was Rufus Paynter I bet, annoyed that the rain has delayed his job on your new roof.

          • Gazzaw

            Haha. Very droll Buns.

          • unsol

            Now that deserves a ba-dum-tshh!

  • Steve R

Isnt it great to have something different than gay marrage to chat about .
hang on I see a puddle

  • blokeintakapuna

Ever wonder why you can’t buy a General from a General store? Well, I was having thoughts along these lines whilst visiting a girls college where I happened to meet the head mistress talking to the head girl…

    …and that’s when the trouble started…

  • LesleyNZ

Thank you God for the rain today.
Job 5:10 English Standard Version (ESV)
10 he gives rain on the earth
    and sends waters on the fields;

    • Rodger T

Obviously a sign she approves of GAY Marriage.

      • unsol

Haha, nice insert & yeh we could read something into that: as this is apparently “God’s Own” God withheld the rain until the people saw fit to ensure the same rights were bestowed upon all NZ citizens.

        • Rodger T

Yep, I can make up bullshit just like the rest of the godbots : )

          • unsol

Yeep….but at least yours is funny!

Hmmm more downvotes….this must surely be from the religious of our fellow commentators…question is, why are they not at church and isnt Sunday a day of REST? Hmmmmm

        • LesleyNZ

Think you are jumping the gun – or should I say jumping through puddles – 3rd reading still to go. Have you ever heard of “Common Grace” http://timothykeller.com/images/uploads/pdf/What_Is_Common_Grace.pdf

          • unsol

Yes I have. I don’t blame or credit God for the good & bad in nature & in man. I credit God for allowing us to discern the difference between the Devine & just nature & man being themselves.

    • Travis Poulson

How you’ve nearly finished your Ark….

      • LesleyNZ

I am not much good at building………………..I would if I could. A song for you Travis – they even chose two cats for the Ark! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCii16cyZfg

        • The real problem is that you’ll never find anyone to pair up with Travis to go into your Ark.

          • Bunswalla

            Meeowww!

          • LesleyNZ

There has to be someone for him Petal. By the way – the requirement to be able to board my ark – animals: has to be male and female pairs of the same species and humans: has to be heterosexual pairs.

          • Yes, we haven’t figured out Travis’ species, let alone how to match Travis to a male pair.

      • 4077th

That is gold Travis….A good belly laugh to start my morning.

    • Bunswalla

Hahahahaha! Nce one centurion, like it, like it.

Just one question: why has god been such an utter utter bastard the last 2 months, defying his own words?

He did not give rain on the earth, and he did not send waters on the fields.

I suppose if you look hard enough, you’ll find that a lot of things that happen in the real world are mentioned in your fairy stories. But it’s a bit desperate.

      • manuka416

That’s just part of being a believer – thanking God for the good stuff, even when the good stuff is just part of a natural cycle, e.g. drought/rain.

        • Bunswalla

S’ok – I know Lesley was being ironic. There’s no possible way anyone could actually believe that (a) god sent the rains.

          • unsol

            “centurion”

Very clever but quite mean – she seems like a lovely lady.Yes I know, I’m being any annoying ‘comment police’!

          • Bunswalla

No need to police my comments unsol, I’m as entitled to scoff as Lesley is to spout fairy stories. Each to their own, I enjoy the pies she bowls to me, though they’re a bit too easy to hit out of the ground.

          • 4077th

Who are you calling big nose, big nose?

          • Bunswalla

You’re not so bad yourself, Conk-face. Where are you two from, Nose City?

          • Rodger T

            Blessed be the cheesemakers.

          • unsol

Oh no, cant believe I missed it – Life of Brian is the personification of biblical times :-)

        • Hazards001

Is that anything like blaming man for the bad stuff e.g. Climate Change?

          • manuka416

Climate change: just another natural cycle.

          • Hazards001

            My point exactly :-)

      • LesleyNZ

        Ask nicely.

        • Bunswalla

Lesley, can you please tell me, a simple non-believer searching for truth, why god waited so long and caused such misery and stress before sending the rains?

And can you also please tell me why we should now be grateful that he sent the rains, since by definition it was him that withheld them in the first place?

          • LesleyNZ

Do you want a sermon? I will have to search for one. This could take a while.

          • Bunswalla

No thank you. I’m searching for the truth, not fairy stories.

So I’ll understand if it takes a while. Like…..forever.

          • unsol

I think you can safely assume that God spoke instead of Lesley…no Devine reason, just the planet doing its thing :)

          • LesleyNZ

God spoke. Rain and an earthquake.

          • Ronnie Chow

One way of looking at it is that the Universe is a single intelligence .
This intelligence condenses in and around organic activity . The greater the activity , the greater the intelligence .
The name of the intelligence is Will .

          • LesleyNZ

I was doing a reply – and then there was an earthquake.

          • Bunswalla

            So…..no.

          • Hazards001

lol yeah..felt that too..was about a 4 by my guess

          • Rodger T
          • Rodger T

            …..

          • unsol

Aah such a bunch of soft J.A.f.As….bit like the ‘snow’ you got eh :)

          • Rodger T

            Snow? wot dat?

          • LesleyNZ

Excuse me! A driveway cracked in Unsworth Heights! http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10871821
And I saw the snow. I think.

          • unsol

            :) :)

    • unsol

Hmmm, seems God has only remembered half the country. Always something to be thankful for, but rain isnt one of them for us today.

      • LesleyNZ

Sorry to hear about that – God doesn’t ever forget. At least we can be thankful for another day.

        • Rodger T

          Nice save .

    • LesleyNZ

You lot can scoff all you like. I am thankful to God for the rain today and so is my vege garden. The drought has certainly made me appreciate water – which we tend to take for granted.

      • manuka416

        Good on you, Lesley

      • Gazzaw

Lesley, let ’em scoff. You can believe all you want. There’s a few here that are all for free speech except for when they don’t agree with what you say.

        • Bunswalla

Unwarranted Gaz, I’m the last person to try and censor free speech. In that spirit, I’m entitled to scoff all I want, just as Lesley’s free to believe whatever she wants, and more power to her elbow.

But seriously, do you or anyone else with a modicum of intelligence seriously believe that some omnipotent being, with nothing better to do than orchestrate the billion billion billion elements of the minutiae that make up life on this tiny flying rock every single day, decided to firstly withhold rain and make life difficult, and then arbitrarily turn the taps back on, but only in some places and not others?

Really? If so, he’s a bit of a wanker wouldn’t you say?

          • Just read the Old Testament – God was a bloody maniac then. In the New Testament it looks like he got onto Ritalin and everything calmed down a bit.

          • LesleyNZ

Well – did you see Paul Holmes’ last interview? Guess we will all find out one day who is right.

          • 4077th

Lets ask “God” about the 2004 Tsunami and while we are at it, Japan and Christchurch?

          • Gazzaw

Buns, I have stated on numerous occasions that I am a non-believer but I do believe in Lesley’s unalienable right to profess her beliefs without being ridiculed. I’m not suggesting that you do by the way.

          • Ronnie Chow

Get off the fence , Gazzaw . Bro’ they’ aint ain’t no man in the sky .

What you love , what you like , this is your meaning .

  • Joe Bloggs

I see that lying to Israeli immigration authorities about one’s reasons for visiting their country has predictable consequences…

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10871720

    • Tom

      Good job

    • Mostly_Harmless

“Peace activist”. Now there’s a euphemism!

      • Bunswalla

More of an oxymoron – fighting for peace is a bit like fucking for virginity.

        • unsol

          O for Awesome.

    • 4077th

Having been through immigration in Tel Aviv I can say without doubt you would be bat shit crazy to lie about anything…oh wait..

    • Gazzaw

Just wait for the bleeding heart interview with John Campbell and the demand for an official protest by Phil Goff.

  • PlanetOrphan

At 1am this morning, while watching a movie, no web browser open, to chat open.

Wireshark told me I was searching for comments at the standard dot org dot nz

8-O , said I , I went to find out what it was trying to do, and it would appear the following IP numbers have been setup at the standard so they can get 2 Invisibale hits for their SiteMeter, I’ve told Cameron and Pete George , but I thought I’d throw it out here too :-)

You should block the following ip numbers on your routers and I’d suggest anyone that’s been to the standard do othe same ….

    199.27.135.117
    70.37.159.223
    157.55.184.162

You should also add an inbound and outbound block filter to your firewall rules.
The Scabs living and TheScablander …. never rest it seems.

I checked and it only stops theStandard so …. don’t let the fact the
IP’s are owned by microsoft fool you, it’s just a single IP set for a
    VM/cloudfare box … thestandard.org.nz

You should also disable any ipv6 protocols, on windows7 in particular.

    • Pissedoffyouth

Or you could just block scripts/Flash?

Sounds more like paranoid bullshit to me

      • PlanetOrphan

How would that stop a google search ? , and it wouldn’t hurt to blobk them, so why not, if enough people do his Parachute Stats will start reflecting reality.

Can only be agood thing, and only takes 5 minutes.

        • Pissedoffyouth

How could his website even generate google search from your PC unless infected through flash/scripts?

          • PlanetOrphan

            I’m not sure,

I’ve been trying to catch him at it, some kind of Java/cookie in IE is my current guess, but the traffic in wireshark (A ethernet packet monitor) does not lie, I haven’t been near the standard for quite some time now.

          • Pissedoffyouth

            I know what Wireshark is.

Are you sure all iexplorer.exe processes are shut down?

          • PlanetOrphan

Yeah bud, stopped using it 6months back, I’m beta testing Mozilla Aurora, and like I said there was no browser process ever started, I started the machine and watched a movie. Noticed my router was working away so started wireshark, standard paranoia checks etc.

It’s also possible he actually “smashed” in to do it, all good reasons to blobk the Ip’s.

          • So what’s firing up a browser session then?

          • PlanetOrphan

Haven’t tracked that down yet, he might have smashed his way in for it.

          • Pissedoffyouth

I’ve used Nightly as my browser since 3.6, when it was called minefield, too.

It seems like it could be either JAVA or Flash – I block both and those IP’s don’t come up after a visit to the standard.

          • PlanetOrphan

Fair enough, but like I said I haven’t been near the standard for quite some time now, and he is a “Stack Smasher”, so protect yourself, I’d love to see his stats drop because of this, and he’s already had to move his server once, this might be the death of him :-))

And you won’t be able to surf the standard if you block these numbers, and they don’t match his DNS ip’s either.

          • *deleted by author*

          • Don’t use IE for a start.

          • PlanetOrphan

Yeah, just block the IP’s is the safest,

It could even be an updated sitemap with foreign Ip’s that he sends to “adwords” for instance, some url jiggery pokery and hey presto Google, crawls your machine looking for a ScabLander url …

          • 4077th

            +1

    • Explain to my like I’m 5, please, how this would cause a double-hit on their stats?

(as for ipv6 disabling on win7, especially so in 64 bit systems. $*&()@#$ blue screening)

      • PlanetOrphan

Blue screen, wow, I just used the advanced adapter settings and switched it off, no stack defined in the device driver, do it in safe mode maybe.

        • Sorry, my bad for being unclear. I can disable just fine. But leaving x64/ipv6 enabled used to cause random blue screens. Was a b*tch to track down. Lucked onto the right web page one day.

          • PlanetOrphan

Been running sweet for me, maybe an attack point from the ScabLander back then, he definitely supports IPv6 on his dns resolution.

        • 4077th

“safe mode” + Microsoft O/S’ are mutually exclusive

          • PlanetOrphan

True , :-) , especially if you surf the ScabLander

          • Pissedoffyouth

Not really, if you keep patches up to date, a decent AV like Avast, use Adblock when browsing and don’t install stupid shit you’ll be fine.

I Haven’t had a virus in years, and only get a warning every 6 months or so when I visit some dodgy warez websites

          • 4077th

In other words, buy a panic room and barricade yourself in and you will be just fine? Lucia would have to convert to Islam before I even considered giving Mr Gates another crack at my expensive hardware.

    • Gazzaw

Sounds serious PO so explain to those teck luddites amongst us exactly what the Standard is achieving by their nefarious actions.

      • RightOfGenghis

I think I’ve twigged to it Gaz. By his own admission LPrent has been hard at work ‘architecting the software framework and writing the structural C++/html/css/javascript code from boost and Qt upwards while the engineers developed the hardware, drivers, and operating system. It takes quite lot of time and effort especially on a cross-compiled system’.
So there you go, somewhere between boost and Qt upwards, the thing has gone pear shaped.

        • Gazzaw

          Thanks ROG – that’s a big help.

    • PlanetOrphan

He’s got some way of making my machine google him, the two pages in question are blank, and his elevated Parachute ranking is the goal.

    • The Standard…JUST. DON’T. GO. THERE.

    • blokeintakapuna

Are they sending virus’s and bad stuff to those that that aren’t willing Labour Party sycophants?

      • PlanetOrphan

They’ll use any IP / machine they can get.
And I’d have to say malicious software/attack of somekind.

    • grumpy

      Well spotted Po

      • PlanetOrphan

        Thanks, grumpy.
