Cabinet minister or Ritz doorman?

It was a travesty that Gerry Brownlee represented NZ at Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, it was a travesty that he posted this picture on Facebook.

Cabinet minister or Ritz doorman?

You decide.

  • tie looks a bit gay.

  • maninblack

why is it a travesty.. who would you have sent?

  • Looks more like the Grosvenor than the Ritz

  • Macca

Why shouldn’t Gerry have gone? How else should he have dressed – in a fucken rainbow suit?!

A man that has been doing an extremely difficult and thankless job since the earthquake and is under constant criticism from both the nay sayers and the left deserves a break! I would certainly rather see him go as an ambassador to NZ than ANYONE from the left!

    Good on ya Gerry!

    • Gazzaw

Right on Macca! What was he supposed to wear – a black singlet, shorts & workboots?

He looks every part the statesman and a top representative for NZ.

      Buy that man a DB.

    • BJ

He bloody well deserves a break from Christchurch crap that would have done plenty of others heads in.
      His dress-code is faultless.
      Why the criticism?

      • parorchestia

He looks fine and I am sure did a great job, but you should come down here and see what people are suffering in the cock ups that are occurring in the rebuild phase. We ain’t doing this well folks and the bosses bear the blame as they should.

      • AnonWgtn

Because he is a National MP of course. Why else ?

  • Jimmie

The big guy looks respectable – chances are the organizers put out a dress code required from those attending which would account for the hat.

Besides nothing wrong with doormen from the ritz – probably more down to earth than the rich nobs they open the door for

  • LesleyNZ

I am so pleased NZ was represented at Maggie Thatcher’s funeral. It was wonderful to watch. Good on Gerry for dressing like that. Maggie deserved respect. Her grandchildren are just lovely. Read about them here. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/apr/16/margaret-thatcher-grandchildren

  • An orange tie?

    • Gazzaw

Very avant garde with a morning suit Petal. It’s actually just spot on for the occasion.

      • paddles83

I cant see any pie crumbs on his jacket

  • peterwn

    Kirks doorman?

  • igp

I reckon he scrubbed up well. Who would you prefer ? Prime
Minister ummm Shearer ? Deputy PM Russel Norman ? Shudder !!!!

    • Judith Collins, more gravitas and someone who genuinely respects Margaret Thatcher rather than a big tosser off for a jolly.

      • igp

Fair comments, but I still reckon the big boy looked the part.

      • LesleyNZ

I see what you mean. After this past week of Maggie Thatcher in the media I have thought that Judith Collins is very much like a Maggie Thatcher. It was a great funeral to watch last night. Much better than Parliament TV. We do lack pomp and ceremony in NZ.

    • AnonWgtn

Wussel would have taken an burning Union Jack.

  • Lion_ess

    He’s scrubbed up well.

    • kohibruce

And NZ joins the heavy weight class once again.

  • johnbronkhorst

I believe a mourning suit is appropriate at a funeral!!!

  • cows4me

Where’s the after the wake photos? Bet he’s not looking as smart.

  • Lofty

For the life of me I cannot work out what the point of this post is.

I get it you don’t like Gerry, but then again there are any number of pollies that are in your firing line.

Sure Collins would have made a good fist of it, but the presence was not about who loved Maggie the most was it? I am sure big Gerry admired Maggie as much as any other.

So what if it was a jolly, if anybody needs a break from the bullshit, it is Gerry.

As for the dress…if the that is the criteria for criticism then maybe Tony Ryall should have been sent with a very loud tie and a colourful shirt.

  • Certainly not a travesty. Very happy to have Gerry representing us looking so debonair. While Judith also would have been a good choice, Gerry is certainly not letting the side down at all looking like that.

    • le sphincter

Looks very much like a formal morning suit, which is probably what the dress code required for the official guests.

In fact it suits some one of Gerrys size with the extra length of the jacket

  • Pita

    Mr Creosote?

  • steve and monique

Top hat,and tails.Rather dapper, and cuts such a dashing figure(well maybe to the nosh up afterwards).Good on ya Gerry,Ms Thatcher would have approved.

  • Steve (North Shore)

Imagine if we sent the tuatara, and the hangers on demanded a haka?
