What a week! Records broken thanks to Marriage Equality and Communist Greens

Cam asked me to post the above pic “at the end of the week sometime”.

It wasn’t meant to mean anything, other than the usual Orca Whale themed post.

But I thought I’d let you all know we’ve had the best week ever.

A “perfect storm” formed where our natural growth, the Marriage Equality bill and the Labour/Green Power nationalisation policy all hit in the same week.

As a result, WOBH has recorded it’s best week ever, including its busiest day ever – just short of 100,000 pageviews in a single 24 hour period.

  • You are welcome; I think it is because this is the only blog which isn’t a Labour party mouthpiece – like the Standard, Kiwiblog etc etc

    • RightOfGenghis

      There is more in its appeal than politics. Big ups to Travis and Pete for the FOTDs

      • unsol

        I agree. It’s fun to spark up a bit of debate & while I think most readers on here clearly enjoy discussing politics & social issues, some posts are just sheer entertainment. FOTDs & the nightcaps are my favorites.

  • Steve (North Shore)

    It just keeps getting better

  • Grizz30

    With respect, One does get a better informed opinion than currently available in the mainstream media

  • Gayguy

    And now with the news that Labour and the Greens have the numbers to form a Government and toss out National…the week just gets better and better,

    • cows4me

      I see you are still suffering from a hangover, have another one, you’re not ready for reality.

      • Gayguy

        I am based more in reality than you.

    • Pissedoffyouth

      Can’t wait for that fuel price to go up and powercuts!

      • Gayguy

        Keep voting National then, that’s what you will get.

        • Pissedoffyouth

          Are you seriously that thick? have you not seen the proposals the Greens are using?

    • I wouldn’t bank on too much credibility from a Roy Morgan poll…

      • Polish Pride

        Just a couple of questions Cam – Can you clarify is there a policy/guide you guys have around when posts get past a certain number? because I was unable to see many posts. Posts I made were often not appearing in response to others (on marriage equal and 212m kiwi saver destruction and a whole block of posts seemed to just vanish from the big marriage one. I know your not big on censorship so what gives?

        • RightOfGenghis

          StupidDisqus come in please…

        • I can’t recall us deleting a single comment in my time here. The only ones we delete are spam, and most of those don’t even get to see daylight.

          Disqus has been having lots of problems over the last few days. It ate one of my comments as I posted it.

          I can assure you, there is no comment deletion going on.

          Sometimes Disqus sidelines some for moderation. These tend to have either a link in it, or some combination of words triggers the moderation hold. This isn’t something we control – again, Disqus uses its hive mind to make these decisions.

          If you click on your profile pic / avatar, you will be able to see a list of all your comments, most recent first. I can see quite a number on the post your refer to, but if course I can’t know if any are missing.

          Bottom line: we do not delete/censor comments.

          Any concerns, drop me a line.

          • unsol

            I havent had any problems bar that one day the other week. But I did see a few of PP, BJ & Travis’ where I could see their names, who they replied to, but instead of a comment it just showed ….
            This happened on roughly 3-5 of their replies
            Disqus does seem to be a little irratic!

      • Gayguy

        And I would not bank on National having the partners it needs to govern after the next election.

    • I think Labour and the Greens should have a go at it. But they should have their plans fully exposed and costed before the election.

      Without it they won’t have a mandate. (Just being consistent here)

      • Gayguy

        National have no mandate for charter schools yet they are ramming them through.

        However, it would do the Greens and Labour well to do that regardless. Have everything costed, to the last cent. All be on the same page before letting out any policy, and make sure everyone in the party knows what the policy is. If they have all their ducks in a row, leave no chinks for National, then the will be the next government.

        • rockape

          No one is ramming charter schools through! what a dumb thing to say. National is mearly changing the rules so that charter schools can operate. The difference is a bit like making homosexual marriage leagal , and, making it compulsary!

          • Good response rockape. Very good.

          • Bob

            Has my vote for ‘post of the week’!!!

          • Why not. I’ll put it up now :)

          • Gayguy

            Really, it is not being rammed through over the objection of experts, the education sector, valid research etc… and was not mentioned by National during the election campaign….

            Guess I am watching different news to you then.

          • rockape

            Sorry GG the experts you talk about are the union self interested and politically motivated. Expert not. Now you want an expert ask my big sister Just retired director of education,Private school headmistress and inventor of the NVQ system. I would take her word over a bunch of anti-government clowns anyday. If you cant do it teach it. if your a useless teacher become a union rep!

          • Gayguy

            I am talking about researchers, doctors, professors as well as teachers who know better than you do.

            But hey far be it from me to sway you from your politically driven insanity.

          • cows4me

            researchers= bullshit artists, doctors =yeah you would know heaps of them, professors = Well I have to give it to you they are the best of the lot, bet my professor can beat yours.

          • Dave

            Gayguy, i want you to rethink that, the experts to consult on the Marriage equality bill you wanted so much would have been the ones marrying others, I.E. the clergy, WHO opposed the bill, so where would you be now GayGuy/Kosh/Meg had the politicians etc just listened to them, you, no marriage equality bill. Likewise with Charter Schools, lets not listen to the inmates I.E. the teachers and the NZEI. You cant have it both ways Kosh/Meg/GayGuy, or do you prefer it that way ??

          • LesleyNZ

          • cows4me

            Oh for God’s sake don’t confuse the “equality” merchant rockape. Everyone must have a “mandate”, I think I will go and have a good shit.

        • Changeiscoming

          Gayguy – The only thing rammed through with no mandate was the same sex marriage bill.

  • LesleyNZ

    Thank you for being able to discuss matters that are important to us.Yes it has been a big week. Yes the sun rose the next day – but I also know that there is nothing new under the sun. Seeing Maurice quoted from the Bible and mentioned the subject of eternity – I too will end the week with some Bible verses. Always know that God is sovereign and in control. Thank you God for every new day. And the answer to the last question in this passage – Only God can. Off to have a dig in the garden…………………..

    Ecclesiastes 3 English Standard Version (ESV) – “A Time for Everything”
    1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
    2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
    a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
    3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
    a time to break down, and a time to build up;
    4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
    a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
    5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
    a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
    6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
    a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
    7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
    a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
    8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
    a time for war, and a time for peace.

    The God-Given Task
    9 What gain has the worker from his toil? 10 I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.
    14 I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him. 15 That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.[a]

    From Dust to Dust
    16 Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness. 17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work. 18 I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts. 19 For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.[b] 20 All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth? 22 So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?
    Ecclesiastes 3:15 Hebrew what has been pursued
    Ecclesiastes 3:19 The Hebrew term hebel can refer to a “vapor” or “mere breath”

    Congrats… Thank you… Very well deserved indeed.

    My only “disappointment” (and a minor one at that) about WOBH are the frequent typo and grammar errors in the main posts that detract from the message… Especially when holding the MSM to account for their errors in their stories. Spell check is your friend… Otherwise, like Crusher says… It’s the best read and most informed source of info going.

    Big ups to all at WOBH!
