Saturday General Debate

praknEH

Welcome to another Saturday.  But of a quiet week, all told.  Nice in a way, we can’t always be plotting to overthrow unions, getting revengeful people to resign or shining sunlight on those shady spots.

So it is your turn today.

Oh, and “Paris”.

  • the green party seem to be getting bolder and have been shown their balls of late. they are announcing crazy ridiculous policies. (well duh….dont they always)

I fear that they know they have probably an 80% chance or greater of getting in at the next election and will have plenty of power WITHIN that government (which wont be a pinch of shit when compared to what NATIONAL will get)

Once elected they will say they have mandate on these wacko policies and ideas.

    Their ballsyness scares me.

    • Gazzaw

A vote for Shearer is a vote for Norman

      • “a vote for shearer is a vote for norman” that should be the champaign slogan.

“a vote for shearer is a vote for …………..” fill in the gap.
        -stuttering
        -incompetence
        -compromise

    • I was thinking we should start writing all these down as they are being talked about so we can feed them all back to them come election time.

But the Team doesn’t have spare time, really. I wonder if one of you would like to step up and take on this chore?

      • when i lived in syney steve price was on drive and he rattled off a list of bob browns policies every day leading up to the election whenever it was. it was like listening to a bizarre comedy.

      • rockape

My father was apolitical organiser until 84 years old. He published pre election a little book. A hundred questions socialists cant answer. I wish I still had a copy, maybe its time to follow in his footsteps.

        • it sounds like your our man.

        • johnbronkhorst

Try this…If Marx was so against the landed gentry and succession. How come ALL socialist countries have used a for of succession to continue the socialist way?
          Cuba….his brother took over.
Nth Korea, grandfather to father to son.
          Venisualla political associate.
USSR……Polit bureaux decided (not the people)
          etc etc

          • johnbronkhorst

Why is there NO economically successful example of socialism. Which is after all an ECONOMIC theory?
Before anyone say “CHINA”….the Chinese themselves have admitted that the further they get from socialism the more successful they have become!

          • johnbronkhorst

Marx:…….”religion is the opiate of the masses”… Notice that in all socialist countries their are statues and effigies of there leaders everywhere and they are worshipped like gods!!!
Even Marx himself had a worshiper……ENGLES!!!

          • johnbronkhorst

Has anyone noticed that ALL socialist states have require aid from capitalist states to stay alive?
            USSR…grain shipments from USA
            Nth Korea…..food from south korea.
            Cuba……USA via USSR
Venisualla ….Largest buyer of oil is USA
            etc etc

          • johnbronkhorst

The point here was so well said by Ronald Regan.
“A socialist has read Marx, but it takes a capitalist to understand him”

          • LabTested

Chinese business person I know says that even under National, NZ is far more Socialist than China. In China you work or you die

          • johnbronkhorst

Not really……Marx was against the dole…everyone MUST work.

          • That is true, I just had one of my Chinese friends say that to me on Monday, and I have been in China many times and it is really easy going, but you stuff up and your dead.
To easy on the lazy ones here.

          • Travis Poulson

            *Venezuela

          • johnbronkhorst

            Yes ..didn’t spell check.

        • Cadwallader

Sounds great. The 100 questions would have been the preface only as there must be a 100,000 questions socialists can’t/won’t answer.

      • Jimmie

Just get folks to email them to you Petal. Put all the emails in a folder labeled Shearer Spearers and come 2014 crack it open

      • rockape

Hi Petal. I think it’s a good idea to get some stuff together however I humbly suggest we look closely at what we want. These questions should be for Labour voters not MPs or their leaders. Eg. You own a Car, Do you think a Labour Greenalliance will make your motoring cheaper or more expensive?
You pay your taxes, Do you think Labour greens will take more money out of your pay packet to pay for their plans? USW.

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Well sorry to hear that. But no force can stop Greens being the next Government. That is MMP for you.

      • Bloody worry really.

      • rockape

        Tonight’s colmar brunt on interesting!

        • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Just got off the phone with Sheep and Hippie. Both are asking Kiwis to ignore the Colmar Brunton poll and take notice of the TV3 poll. They are also planning more joint announcements after Kiwis have supported their power policy, Watch out for a rich prick tax announcement in the next couple of weeks,

    • AnonWgtn

Neither Greenpeace or Labour have to actually put forward any policy – Opposition parties, which heavily includes the media, have only carry on whinging and whining.
The media will do everything else for them.
      See the Herald specifically.

    • Travis Poulson

      Post coming up later

  • Travis Poulson

Interesting watching LBIAFC on The Nation at the moment, can’t answer a damn question straight.

    • “Len, what is the main function of a ruler? It is to draw lines…?”

      • Travis Poulson

“Well Rachel I’m sure you’d like me to answer that way, but in fact we’re currently reviewing the process to indeed establish that I can make a judgement on that with the support of my colleagues once I get the other members behind me and can make a final judgement on the main function of the ruler.”

“So all your colleagues aren’t yet supporting you on this matter?”

“As I said previously, we’re still reviewing the process and can’t make a decision on that until that is done”

“Do they support you or not?”

“That’s a lovely dress Rachel, who made it? love what you’ve done to your hair! does that look like rain outside? Oh look at that, we’ve run out of time.”

  • rockape

I am having a “thinking about investments” day. Labour and the Greens and National for that matter talk a lot about “investing in jobs” Only National seem to have any real plans for that. Labour and the Greens have actively discouraged investment, period They plan capital gains on houses to stop investment in Property. They say they will take away your profits if you invest in Electricity companies and presumably Air Newzealand as well so were do is the investment opportunity thats safe from them. Well the answer is – overseas. Now how does that help NZ. Further how bad is overseas investors investing in NZ, another of their gripes. They complain about the profits going overseas. Who cares, only those who worry more about profits than jobs. I would love a big manufacturer to set up in South Auckland make a profit and create 1000 jobs. Sod the profits, they invest, they expect a profit, and we can tax it and enjoy the jobs.
Have Labour and the Greens thought this through or do they just bitch about every National plan for the sake of being seen to oppose.

    • unitedtribes

They cant get their heads around the fact that the profits that might go overseas is only about 5% the other 95% stays here and 95% is better than nothing

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Economist Ganesh Nana wants the Reserve Bank to intervene in foreign exchange markets for as long as it takes to bring the kiwi dollar down.

The Berl economist told deer farmers in Wellington the bank should become a daily trader till the exchange rate fell to “something sensible for our export sector”.

The dollar has traded close to US86c recently, falling to almost US80c this week, before rebounding to about US80.9c yesterday.

“Sooner or later the speculators – Japanese housewives and Belgian dentists – will find somewhere else to play.”

There you go bros! The Economic Wizard has spoken.

    • LabTested

The Japanese Prime Minister has vowed to print as much money as is needed to achieve 2% inflation following decades of deflation. As a result the exchange rate has gone from 70 Yen to 85 Yen to the NZ$ since Christmas. If Nana thinks that our Reserve Bank can go toe to toe with the Bank of Japan then he is a f**kn idiot

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Uncle Nana will be happy when 1 NZD = 0.10 USD. That is where the economic nutters of the left wingers are taking us….

        • johnbronkhorst

We could change the name to the “South Pacific Peso”

          “South Pacific Dracma”

          “South Pacific Lira”
After all those names aren’t being used at the moment.
or just “The South Pacific Euro”

    • rockape

I had a friend who worked in The City for Chase Manhatten in the 80s. He was fairly high up in the currency trading World. It used to be a game on a friday to pick a small country and see how far they could drop its currency. They ran a book on it! Things were generally restored on amonday. Not good but a lesson on how difficult it is to play with the big boys.

  • cruiseyman

http://www.labour.org.nz/policy This makes for amusing reading.

    • Whanga_Cynic

So, in 3 years, they’ve come up with one new policy (and that one’s crap!) and SCS tells us they’re gonna be our next Gummint – TUI!

  • rockape

In response to Pete above. Oh yes we can!

  • Pissedoffyouth

Does using drugs make people crazy, or do crazy people like taking drugs? Do wankers buy Audi’s or does being in an Audi turn you into a wanker? I’m interested in your thoughts on this important matter

    • I’ll get back to you once I figure out this chicken/egg question someone asked me once.

      • blokeintakapuna

its the Rooster… Its always the Rooster..

    • Cadwallader

I drive an Audi, but equally from the same stable I could drive a VW or a Skoda. If I purchased one of the sister marques would that still render me a wanker? If so, it is immeasurably better than being an envy driven whinger, of the Jim Neanderton school.

    • johnbronkhorst

The acquisition of money can only give you an opportunity to be MORE of what you are.
If you are an asshole, the money can make you more of an asshole.
If however you are a generous person (financially or morally), then you have the opportunity to do more.
Money it’s self cannot change you or your nature.

      • Cadwallader

Agree! If a leftie, the acquisition f money renders one all the more an oracle on how to spend another’s money. This sort of creature has been labelled ” a chardonnay socialist” in the past. Appalling creatures from my observations.

      • cows4me

“Money it’s self cannot change you or your nature”, if you’ve got a few mill John I would be happy to help with your theory.

        • johnbronkhorst

I would have a few mill for long if a kept giving it away!

    • unitedtribes

Imposible to wank in an audi

  • Still looking for Blubbergeddon reports from Sponge Maggie Donovan Lloyd Kehua KS Tagaloa Paul Gus John as at 1pm.

I tried to download the Facebook app for an Android device today. Facebook requires that it can ‘Directly call phone numbers, read phone status and identify’

as well as that it wants the ability to ‘Modify my contacts & read call log’

Sounds like a huge invasion of privacy & i’m not sure I want Facebook to know who (or what sort of business) I have been calling.

I’m not a big user of FB, but it is the only way to keep up with what my Nieces/Nephews & family overseas are doing

    • gander

If the budget and the pocket will stretch, get yourself an ultra-cheap Android phone for Facebook and don’t use it for anything else.

I’ve never wanted anything to do with Facebook. I learned a ways back that the Android Facebook app automatically – with no input from or control by you – sends your contact list and possibly other data from your phone to Facebook (can an Android expert verify this?). That was one good motivation to get rid of my old Android phone, which had a non-deletable Facebook app.
