Veganism – God’s way of making Grey Lynn housewives loopier than ever

    • blokeintakapuna

“Vegan” is an old North American Indian word for “bad hunter”

    • Bunswalla

      Aren’t plants god’s creatures too?

  • Cept its 100% wrong. Saturated fat doesn’t cause heart attacks…..Inflammation,not cholesterol damages arteries….and that is due to sugar and carb’s and omega 6 fatty acids.

    • unsol

Along with the trans fats that people often cook meat with.

  • unsol

Why debate with stupid? Fools cannot give wise counsel. Best to ignore & take advantage of those eye teeth God created us with.

I prefer “Police Chases – Gods version of Darwinism”

Or I like vegetarians, I just can’t eat a whole one by myself…

    • unsol

or if vegetarians like animals so much, why do they keep eating their food…..

      • Bunswalla

Or, if we’re not supposed to eat animals, why are they so tasty?

  • If God hadn’t wanted us to eat animals he wouldn’t have made them taste like meat!

  • In Vino Veritas

As I have posted before, man’s leap in intelligence came when he began eating meat. His brain size and functionality increased hugely. God must have wanted us to eat meat, otherwise we’d still be animals ourselves, surely?
By logic, vegetarians and vegans must be regressing toward the pea sized brains of our ancestors, some would argue that they are quite a way there already……….

    • tarkwin

It’s called Norman syndrome. A particularly bad bout can morph into Bradford’s disease. Nobody as ever survived this awful malady.

      • Bunswalla

        That dame’s no (ma)lady, Tarkwin

    • Mediaan

Didn’t work for snakes. They eat meat. Or cats. Not one cat ever won a Nobel Prize.

I’m a vegan, health reasons, but it can be very delicious food.

        • Mediaan

          Good references there.

          However.

The first, more popular, one ignores life history variables (like, fed meat as a child but not in adulthood, still works in building neurons presumably).

The second is a seriously interesting study with gutsy methodology but does not support your hypothesis.

          • In Vino Veritas

“In our data set, species that are primarily carnivorous have larger relative endocranial volumes than omnivorous or insectivorous species”

Larger brains = more firing neurons = more intelligence
            Hypothesis supported.

          • Mediaan

Read the last paragraph of the second study again. Conclusions.

The study is about analysing variables in increased all-over brain size in mammals of 36 different types. It chooses methods, makes assumptions, and uses heavy maths to extract important factors. It still comes up with a diverse range of variables.

It is not about attributing the larger size of some mammals’ brains to meat eating.

          • Mediaan

            I should add,

… All your categories there are consumers of live fauna, did you realise? Primarily carnivores eat meat, but so do omnivores and insectivores really.
… The report authors say the known larger brain size average of carnivores (acknowledged often as correlating with social success and smartness) could be caused by several things, including for example social factors or cognitive processing factors.

Speaking of God-botherers, I see Cardinal George Pell is to give evidence at Victoria’s Child Sex Abuse Parliamentary Enquiry today where it is anticipated he will blame the deceased Sir Thomas Francis Little for the all of the covered-up child abuse cases. I guess God’s been asleep at the wheel on this matter, while dishing up revenge heat-attacks for the meat-eaters.

The god reference is probably either tongue-in-cheek from an atheist or reference to some pantheistic god where the cow is also god. I understand that those who don’t usually use the word get very excited when they see it though.

    • Mediaan

Lion_ess, thanks for putting the words together. There are times when something really needs saying but I just sigh and move on.

  • PlanetOrphan

Vegans don’t have heart attacks because they are so weak and sickly they couldn’t build up the energy required M8!

    • WayneO

No, they die of malnutrition long before their arteries have time to clog.

      • PlanetOrphan

And they’re so emaciated you can’t even use their guts for a tennis racket M8!

  • Agent BallSack

Oh crap. Guess the bible is wrong then:

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Never mind its only in Genesis it’s not like its the first book of the bible or anything….

  • bristol

I’m sort of vegetarian, I only eat animals that eat vegetables.

    • Bunswalla

Exactly. Steak is just an efficient vegetable delivery mechanism (burp).

  • LabTested

If God had wanted us to eat only vegetables he would have made them more fun to shoot

  • Jman

If god didn’t want us to eat animals, then why’d he make them taste so damm good?

  • blairmulholland
  • Grizz30

The problem with many vegans that you meet is that they substitute nutrition for cigarettes. Another consideration is the high incidence of heart disease amongst Indians even though 40% of them are vegetarian. There is still a lot of fat in cooking oil, ghee and coconut cream.

    • Pissedoffyouth

And cigarettes, a ton of Indians smoke

  • Steve (North Shore)

Do other carnovore animals have heart attacks, or just humans?

    • Honcho

Large dog breeds are susceptible to heart problems

      • Ratchet

Don’t see many Lions, Tigers or Bears suffering from angina though…

      • juliannetaylor

Probably because we feed them teh human equivalent of fast food – kibble, full of grains and damaged fats. Same as what gives us heart attacks.

        • Mediaan

Well said. If you can’t afford proper dog meat and dog bones, for at least half the diet, don’t get a dog.
