Face of the day

“Duncan, I have now confirmed with the whole Caucus. There is no letter. This is just made up. Apology?” – Grant Robertson on Duncan Garner’s reports that the Labia Party leadership coup is underway with a letter of no confidence being circulated.

Four possibilities: #1 Garner was lied to #2 Garner is lying #3 Robertson is lying #4 Robertson was lied to.

With Chippy hot on defense, I’m going with #4.

  • I agree. The whips are supposed to be the leader’s closest guardians. It makes sense then that Hipkins and Fenton would be the last people to be told that a move against the leader is underway. They would be presented the letter on Shearer’s behalf when the plotters had the numbers. Robertson and Hipkins are out of the loop on this.

  • Whafe

Agree totally with you both, I to go with option 4

The embarrassment that is the NZ Liabour Party continues…

The Green Taliban are oh so quiet on this….. Slimy Norman will be loving this, just you wait…

  • Travis Poulson

Also noted Annette King and Mallard also denying, are the dead wood being left out of the loop?

    • Dave

King and Mallard would be the last to know, they chatter too much, and would put the word out.

  • OT Richter

True or not, the damage is being done to Shearer. He will dive in the next polls and then the knives will be out in public. Gone.

    • blokeintakapuna

      …and gone by lunchtime too…

    • AnonWgtn

Not before Helen gets back in early August to advise and offer David Shearer a job back with UN, as long as he supports Grant Robertson.
Remember she trained him to be slimy, and dangerous so he will do well.

  • RockyFist

Its a shame as we really wanted Mumbles leading the Labia Party into the next election.

  • Middleagedwhiteguy

If you are secretly plotting to roll the leadership, you certainly don’t tell the deputy leader.

    • blokeintakapuna

…unless it is the deputy leader planning on doing the rolling?…

  • BigDes

Say it isn’t so!! I was SO looking forward to the public humiliation. whoops I mean leaders debate.

    • AnonWgtn

Would enjoy Key versus Robertson or Little – would be a great sport.

      • johnbronkhorst

Would key feel like a bit of a bully against these …..eggs?

  • TomTom

Even Garner being lied to is a bad option – means someone in Labour is out to cause a lot of shit for Shearer.

And as idiotic Garner can be, I don’t think he’d lie either.

    • Travis Poulson

1 is unlikely, he will throw them under the bus, 2 he wouldn’t do, that leaves 3 & 4

  • Pissedoffyouth

I wonder when Grant’s chin will stab him in the back?

    • johnbronkhorst

He’d have to stand up..to go from the arse kissing position to the back stabbing position!

    • Super_Guest

      Which one?

  • blokeintakapuna

Just wait and watch the various factions jostling for position. What they don’t say will be as telling as what they do say…
Last night on the telly, watching a repeater try and interview Cunliffe about his thoughts on the man ban… his reply was “David Shearer has my full support…”
Shearer knows the usual modus operandi with Labour and how they dispose of unwanted leaders… and he knows he’s no longer flavour of the month… and he knows plenty are not happy with him… why doesn’t he do the honourable thing and do a “Parker side-step” and resign before the push?
He could stay on as an “expert advisor” even assisting Auntie in the NY office to help run NZLP?

    • OT Richter

So if he resigns, how does a new leader get chosen/elected? Don’t they now have all those drawn-out rules that require a union & member vote?

      • Cam was on radio last night and said that if they only present one person as the next leader, then a vote may not be needed, and it’s all done and dusted quickly.

    • johnbronkhorst

“David Shearer has my full support…”

      And several months ago…….

      “Phil has my full support…”

      EDIT: Euphemism?

  • tarkwin

You forgot #5 – who cares.

  • cows4me

Trotter would call this democracy in action.

  • johnbronkhorst

So the labour leadership progression has been:
    helen clarke:…………………..LIAR, corrupt
    shearer………………………….stupid na├»ve fool
??????………………………….Only fucking idiots and liars left!!!

    • GregM

Good point John. I actually think their only option is Cunliffe, the rest of them are totally tits.

      • johnbronkhorst

conliffe???…..that would be a return to the top of my list…just replace helen’s name with conliffe’s name.

  • LesleyNZ

I had to laugh this morning after listening to NewstalkZB – it all YOUR fault Cameron Slater!

    • johnbronkhorst

      A BOO HOO moment then?
