I don’t what’s worse, the meddling or the quackery?

Silly old Prince Charles has been caught lobbying directly…that wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t on behalf of quack products and ‘therapies’.

Prince Charles has secretly lobbied the Health Secretary to back discredited homeopathic medicines.

The Prince and Jeremy Hunt – both strong supporters of alternative therapies – held a meeting at Clarence House last week.

Homeopathy and alternative medicines were on the agenda, according to well-placed sources. The NHS already spends millions each year on alternative medicines, at a time when it is restricting life-saving drugs for those with cancer.

Charles is understood to be unhappy that government plans to set up a register of practitioners of herbal and Chinese medicine – designed to give them an element of respectability – have stalled.

But a Labour MP accused the Prince of promoting ‘voodoo medicine’ and both the British Medical Association and the Commons science and technology committee say the NHS should stop funding homeopathic treatments because of a lack of evidence they work.

The BMA has described homeopathy as ‘witchcraft’, and two weeks ago the Advertising Standards Authority said homeopaths were putting people’s lives at risk by discouraging them from seeking medical treatment.

Despite this, Mr Hunt has been outspoken in his support for homeopathy. In 2007 he signed a Commons motion welcoming the ‘positive contribution made to the health of the nation by the NHS homeopathic hospitals’. He has also defended it in a letter to a constituent.

Anyone who believes in homeopathy needs to be put in protective custody for their own personal safety.

“Anyone who believes in homeopathy needs to be put in protective custody for their own personal safety.”
We mock and ridicule that which we don’t understand but never more when something impacts the revenues of giant corporations. Many will even advocate the removing of personal freedoms from people as they feel everyone should share their view of the world.

The state should ideally favour neither scientifically tested health treatments (such as most orthodox medicine) or quackery (such as homeopathy). Government should leave individuals free to choose what sort of health care they purchase, using their own money (through tax reduction), thus avoiding the current situation of massive corporate welfare for Glaxo Smith Kline, Pfizer and other gigantic multinational companies.

Also, Prince Charles should STFU and stop peddling bullshit remedies such as homeopathy.

Try Homeopathic Exercise Regime: most dilute dose = strongest result. I’ve been doing it all Winter: Limit of 30secs strenuous exercise per month only. It works, no sprains or muscle strains so far. I would go down to mega-potent 5sec exercise per month, but it may be too powerful for me to handle.

I get all the exercise I need, I drive past a couple of gyms on the way to work.

People should be free to pursue whatever beliefs or procilvities they like, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else, no matter how ridiculous or laughable.
But not at the taxpayer expense. Charles Windsor can hold whatever nutty beliefs he likes – but not when he is sucking on the taxpayers’ tit.

I personally agree with your statement whole heartedly …………but it doesn’t take into account that people who use homeopathy are tax payers also so it is their money too.

    • Homeopathy practitioners are frauds, any money they obtain is through fraudulent means and they prey on the vulnerable and foolish. If only free choice was the rationale behind these charlatans.

When elevated to the top job Charles as a constitutional monarch needs to mind his P’s and Q’s.

The first Charles to reign thought he knew better than Parliament and look what happened to him.

  • Ururoa

This should have made it onto the debate the other night on TV about retaining the Monarchy as NZ’s Head of State.

Does anyone actually want Charles and Camilla to be our HOS? Really?

Our medical establishment tends to specialise, so that you might be seeing three specialists with nobody to integrate their differing realms of information.

Your GP is probably very overworked and short of time.

So you get heart info from your heart man, cancer info from your cancer man, radiotherapy info from your radiation team, and plastic surgery info from your plastic surgery team.

So any generalist might do a useful job. Naturopath, homeopath, whatever. You need an all-over view from somebody.

The actual methods of all of these can be criticised. Our medical methodology in the west is less than 400 years old. Compare that to some others, like the 3000 years of medical knowledge behind Chinese medicine.
