    tastes a bit like kiwi

    • Rusty B

      • Travis Poulson

Alot better than Takahe that’s for sure.

Along this line of discussion – the best way to enjoy Pukeko: cut the breasts off and put them in a pot of boiling water with a couple of riverstones about the same size with assorted herbs and a pinch of salt. Cook the breast meat until the riverstones are soft. Remove the breasts from the pot and dispose of, then enjoy the riverstones….

            That bad huh

  • CheesyEarWax

Nice shot. Just needed little bit more DOF to get the feet and body into focus. Excellent anticipation to get the wide open beak homing on the fruit.

    • Michaels

I shot about 20 photos quite quickly and didn’t even realise I had this one until I put it onto the computer.

      • Rodger T

Nice shot, hope you don`t mind if I post this on me FB page?

      • Orange

50x optical zoom is pretty sick on that camera. Really nice shot. Well done.

  • Euan Ross-Taylor

…obviously doesn’t taste as good as moa.

    • OT Richter

….or maybe just smarter than the average pre-European.

      • parorchestia

        probably tastes better than pakeha

  • rrroberto

tastes best when the diet is Miro berry

  • Never in the dark…..

I’ve seen some of the dodgy berries they eat…..but then again I love kudu.

  • Rodger T

    Beautiful Plumage…………

  • Allan

According to me old man they are quite nice after a feed of Miro! the old bugger is still trying to convince us we should have an indigenous right to munch em as ngati pakeha….

  • trisha

Illegal Tegal…I would never eat one……its awesome to be in the bush to hear and see them flying around. Their colours are amazing and I often wondered if that’s where the original metallic colours where copied from. Great pic.
