Adrian Carton de Wiart fought in the Boer War and both World Wars, earning the VC during WW1. He survived being shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip and ear. He survived a plane crash, tunnelled out of a POW camp and at one point had to bite off his own fingers when a doctor refused to amputate them. After it all he said “Frankly I had enjoyed the war…and why do people want peace if the war is so much fun”. (source)
