Cunliffe lies on day one

Cunliffe’s position on the Greens in this story is different to the one he had yesterday.

Russel Norman was only ‘unlikely’ as a Labour-led Government’s Finance Minister yesterday, but with the Greens in a top economic role.

For his part, on Breakfast this morning, Russel Norman was only saying ‘we’ll see’.

Now David Cunliffe has ruled him out entirely.

No wonder the PM came out firing, calling David Cunliffe a liar…over Russel Norman. He could also have called him a liar for his breast feeding claims and helicopter over flight claims as well.

It’s day two of the Labour leadership battle and Prime Minister John Key has already accused one of the front-runners of lying.

New Lynn MP David Cunliffe this morning ruled out making Greens co-leader Russel Norman his finance minister in any post-election coalition, but Key said Cunliffe was lying and would do anything to be prime minister.

“If, in the end, the price of having a government with the Greens is Russel Norman being the deputy prime minister and minster of finance, will he rule that out categorically? The answer will be no,” Key said.

Asked if he was accusing Cunliffe of not telling the truth, Key replied: “He’s lying to you.

“In the end he will be desperate to become prime minister, in the end he will do whatever it takes and say whatever it takes.

“Come the moment that’s the price, he’ll say ‘well I’m doing my bit for the country’.”

    Cunliffe lies……….colour me so surprised.

    • And in the political judicial system, that’s 1 week of ribbing, unless it’s an election year of course.

Written by the people , for the people etc :-)

  • Well he can finish his sentences , that’s a start.
Deafening silence from the other contenders as well …

  • Day Day

    “Honest” Dave Cunliffe.

  • Adolf Fiinkensein

I’m a little surprised Mr Key is wading in at this stage. Still, jolly good on him for not mincing his words.

    • JC

He’ll cut in whenever Russel is mentioned as DP and/or Finance Minister to make sure everyone understands the Greens have as much influence as the unions in determining the leader and the economic direction of the Party.

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

May be uncle Key is scared of Curryleaf? Have you thought of that angle Mr Adolf?

      • Col

        Why?

        • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Col bro – Key is on the attack on Curryleaf. That means he is on the offence and thinks if Curryleaf wins he will be toast….he doesn’t want Curryleaf to win and trying to discredit him from day 1….

          • Col

Nah JK just stirring the curry boy up, before he cooks hims.We can only wait and see.

  • cows4me

Well said John, there’s not really much you can add to that, all true. Whoever becomes leader will have to sell his soul to the mad doctor. We might get a Labia leader but we’ll have a melon Kleptocracy.

  • peterwn

What needs to be somehow exposed is any below-radar stitch-ups between the new leader and the unions. Voters need to know about this.

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Unions adore Curryleaf. There is no secret here. Kelly will be given a top list place. Keep cracking. No conspiracy here.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Look guys, I spoke to Curryleaf on my coconut & string mobile. Curryleaf’s position is clear. He is offering smelling Hippie, Associate Finance Minister and Revenue Minister roles. So he is consistent. Move on bros.

Cunnyphone … is that a new entrant in the market. Do you get cheap rates calling Obamaphones?
Difficult to keep calls private standing on the back of a Mana truck.

  • Whafe

Wow, Silent T lied! Surprised? NOT
Who ever wins the leadership rigged race within Labour, will have to entertain the Gweens in some cpacity, or they will not be able to govern, EVERYONE except SCS knows that Labour cannot get a majority on their own, so a little snuggle up with the Gweens is a must…..

Oh great! So need to expect to see my modest income drop substantially, embrace sustainability like never before and just move on. Given that just popping out for a crap on our sustainable garden on the street berm. To date only the dog has found this a worthwhile venture but clearly all my family have completely missed the point of her knowledge. Will let the the whole WO family know when vegies are ready, or should I just send straight to noddy?

        • Col

Hope the dog enjoys his special spot, because if the Greens have anything to say your dog will have to pay shit Tax as well as you paying for every veg out of your garden. Then again you can do the right thing and go down to the commune and share.

  • thor42

“Youse fullas” Cunners lying. No surprise.

  • niggly

Patrick Gowler seemed to be on Cunlffe’s case today…. should be interesting these next 3 weeks if the MSM start asking the hard questions!

  • AngryTory

By definition – every Labour / Green politician is a liar.

They tell people socialism works. It doesn’t .

For most of the last 50 years in the US, that was treason meriting execution.

    • snakebit

NZ is a socialist country. For most of this century NZ has probably been in the top five most socialist countries in the world which is more than a little embarrassing. We pride ourselves on being innovative, independent and tenacious and indeed many are but most want the government to hold their hands at least some of the way.
‘From each according to his ability to each according to his need’. May as well put it on our flag.
