My tipster in Fraser House has some startling information:

Fraser House news tip:

Tim Barnett acting as a go-between for Helen Clark and Shearer.

The news is Clark will meet with Shearer either tonight or tomorrow night and urge Shearer to call it a day.

Expect a by-election for Mt Albert to be announced on Monday if Aunty Helen is successful.

  • nellie

Surely there’d have to be a big (UN) incentive for him to do that.

And then a non male WASP for Mt Albert no doubt..

Imagine if he defected to another party..

  • Mr_Blobby

    No pressure.

Cushy “job” at the UN on offer.

  • RightOfGenghis

Makes sense. Mt Alberts a safe seat. All the H’s will be wanting to install a dyke with balls in there. Watch this space…

    • The perfect seat for Jacinda Ardern? Nikki Kaye wouldn’t be complaining.

      • RightOfGenghis

hmmm, not sure she’s a dyke KS but if we accept the unwritten rule that list mps can’t be ‘leaders’ and H2 sees her as a pm-in-wating then that scenario is entirely plausible

        • It wasn’t intended as an inference as to Jacinda’s sexuality RoG; just the sense that it would be an obvious seat for her, especially given that she was a protege of Helen Clark’s when she came into Labour in 2008.

          • Agent BallSack

Jacindas being groomed there’s no doubt about that.

          • GUest

She looks like H1, talks like H1, dresses like H1 (and H2) … can NZ deal with another H1 again? Doubt it.

          • AnonWgtn

            Hope she doesn’t emulate H3 !

    • Cadwallader

I am blown away by the fact that you seriously think there are any “safe seats for Labour” anywhere…including in OZ!

      • RightOfGenghis

and I am blown away that you seriously think voters think seriously. Democaracy is overated…

  • blokeintakapuna

Yet another great scoop Whale. Definitely confirming the best political bellwether blog in all the land. Congrats to you and the team. You guys rock!

  • cows4me

Is that an original or is it another forgery?

  • Whafe

I think a good proportion of the NZ public are going to get rather pissed real quick with Helen Clark interfering in the politics of NZ….
Interfere away, but don’t try and do it from a closet… Helen knows all to well re hiding in the closet hey

    • AnonWgtn

Perhaps Clark will retake Mt Albert – she can double dip with the UN.

  • Steve (North Shore)

Now the jigsaw starts to fall into place. Did not know the beast was still in town, but this now has her paw prints all over it.
By-Election in Mt Albert? Who is a list MP and needs to win a seat real bad? Who has been in training? Who models themself on the beast?
    Ain’t rocket science any more

  • Andy

My source is telling me that Jacinda will get the save seat in Mt Albert

    • AnonWgtn

Well she has/is buying a house in Auckland – around the $1m + mark.
Mount Albert sounds good – perhaps Helen will sell he one of Helen’s four Auckland houses cheap as new home buyer.

  • Owl

No the candidate will be no other than Helen Kelly

    • Andy

Don’t think so. Jacinda will be deputy leader and therefore needs a save seat.
She cannot be Deputy as a list MP.
Helen Kelly will get a high enough list seat to get her savely elected

      • Greg

And don’t forget she was the President of the International Union of Socialist Youth in 2008.

      • Faris

If Helen Kelly makes politics I am selling up and leaving.
She’s as mad as a cut snake.

        • Mother of ten

          So with you there Faris

          • Whafe

Helen Kelly makes cut snakes seem tame……

          • niggly

She does spin the truth sometimes/many times and in an over the top manner. It’s not nice for the public to be treated like they cannot think for themselves.

          • Mother of ten

Niggly, she’s the enemy personified. As a woman I despair…..

          • Mr Sackunkrak

            And nicer to play with.

        • GazzW

The CTU has already written the cheque Faris. Or should I say several cheques payable to nominees known only toTim Barnett.

    • BAM

      I’d go with this.
It will be a trade off for the unions supporting Cunliffe.

    • AnonWgtn

Nah – Rongotai for 2014 election as Annette will not stand again – she has made her pension pile.

  • GregM

National should put up a top candidate for the seat and fight it hard. Even labour voters are sick of their shit, imagine if it went blue…

    • sheppy

That would be a very satisfying end to their manipulative ways!

    • RightOfGenghis

I’m not sure. MA is working-class and multi-ethnic, with a high Pacific Island & Asian infused with muslim immigrants from central africa

      • Whafe

That would be for Mellisa Lee to go hard and win it for Blue

    • jonam182

I live in that ward. Its slowly changing, alot of the indians and chinese would vote blue. Sick of labour. Just need a better candidate than melissa, she is pretty much non existant

      • Whafe

Not so sure about that, pretty hard to get any exposure when the now ex leader of the opposition had that seat….
I hear Melissa Lee has done some hard yards for sure

        • Quintin Hogg

I am “in country” in Mt Albert. Melissa has done ok. The demographic is changing and becoming more and more conservative. There are the badlands of the south end but the rest will be heading to the blue end of the spectrum.

          • GazzW

You’re dead right about the changing demographics Quintin – just see where Maungakiekie has headed in the last two elections. Candidate selection is all-important though. Sam Lotu Iiga ticks all of the boxes for the Maungakiekie electorate. Well educated, successful, well grounded in local politics, family man and a PI. His door’s always open and he’s known in the electorate as a real good bastard.

    • GregM

NOT Melissa Lee, her cock up from the past will not , and should not be forgotten.

  • conwaycaptain

    Told You

  • Vlad

Your blog has been the consistently best-informed source of information on this and other political machinations over the past year. Journalists, trained or otherwise, stumble in your wake. Well done, and thanks.

  • Timboh

If this true, then the Labour Party is led by a clique of professional socialists who are attached to the tit of democracy. Whether here or in the land of the bank account(s).

  • Blue Tim

I said yesterday Shearer would return to the tax haven of the UN but after 2014 election. Might be time for Key to go to the polls early

    • Timboh

Ah the UN. Says it all really.

  • Colin

Well if Jacinda is being groomed for a future PM role at least with grace we are saved from having yet another ugly dyke for a PM.
Word is Jacinda is herro and likes a good root so and she is quite a hot thing so we can rest easy that she isn’t like to cut her hair short and lower her voice like a bad actress.
This country could do worse. If we goto hell in a hand basket thanks to a Labour-Taliban alliance with Jacinda at the helm we can at least be relieved she isn’t a fag and doesn’t look like someone hit her with a spade.

    • benniedawg

Well said! Whenever I see her on TV I can’t get the notion of pornstar out of my head. However, in saying that maybe she would make a great leader with Shane Jones as her deputy. Could make a really ‘tight’ team. Shane has already done the hard yards on the research, just needs to bring all that effort together to make it work.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

I am disappointed with this news. Even a card board cut out of the she beast in Mt Albert can defeat John Key’s nominee. Waste of National’s money to stand a candidate here. Crushing defeat awaits.

    • Whafe

Don’t be so brazen SCS, it isn’t what it once was. That is as safe as a red seat…
A good many of your faithfuls have seen the light and moved away from the blood red team

      • LabTested

while Shearer won a thumping majority, the party vote was split 50/50 in the 2011 election. I seem to remember that Melissa Lee made a pigs ear of the 2009 byelection, so not sure how her personal popularity has recovered there. Of course there was a big hippy vote as well

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Albert_(New_Zealand_electorate)

        • Whafe

Fair bit of time has passed since 2009 LabT, loads of water under the bridge so to speak

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Come on Whafe, heart of heart you know National doesn’t have any chance of winning Mt.Albert. That is She beast’s home turf.

        • Whafe

Was She Beasts turf… Don’t under estimate just how deflated the Liabour Party faithfuls feel with Liabour…. She Beast has helped destroy it

        • steve and monique

Have to agree. She beast put a spell on that place, and only a madmen would want to run there.

  • Chiefsfan73

Now he can bring the foreign account money back.

    Two things.
1 Otago just won the shield. Yahoooooo.
    2. I thought we had got rid of the she beast.
Let shearer make up his own fucking mind. As for that queen Barnett well he can just sod off as well. Time serving twat.
If it happens we receive a complete carpet bagger with no real life experience.
    Words absolutely fail me.
And if we have by election we will have labour twats crawling all over us and eating in my favourite cafe. Fuck that.

    • I miss living in Mt Albert. Telling the Labour canvassers exactly what I though of the Klarkistan was fun. But… in Dunedin now, and we. have. the. shield, so it will stay well away from the ITM (TM) teams

  • Grizz30

Does Labour have the finances to run a leadership ballot let alone a by-election. Lets not forget the upcoming Christchurch East by-election.

  • AnonWgtn

Heard that Helen Kelly had marked this one for Little ?
