The Henry inquiry debacle gets worse and worse – and worse.

    Yesterday it was revealed that:
    – a senior Parliamentary Service staffer also sent Vance phone data, not just a contractor
    – contents of Dunne’s and Vance’s emails were sent to Henry (they claim the couldn’t open them)
    – and as with the phone data, there has been a coverup on the emails – but this time from Key’s office. Andrew Kibblewhite knew about the email release a month ago.

    Key must be furious.

This may be a beltway issue, but it is the biggest political story of the year, and is blowing up in John Key’s face. It’s difficult to know how far the damage will go, but it will certainly get worse. Expect Key to take a significantly different stance soon to deal with it. He has tried to minimise it but he’s smart enough to know when decisive action is required.

    • Who will he throw under the bus?

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

My Labour sources tell me John Key will announce his resignation as PM on Monday.

        • LesleyNZ

          LOL!

          • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Wait for the press conference to be called by John Key at 12:00 Noon on Monday…..

          • Col

I heard that as well, but it was not accepted, as no one else can do the job better.

          • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Sheep has reluctantly come forward to save this nation….change of guard on Monday 5th August….

          • cows4me

Yeah he’ll be filling his pants.

      • williamabong

No need, this might just be the good clean out the senior public service needs, added bonus is Dunne is already under the bus, Andrea Vance now has political pox and no one will ever touch her again and the senior civil servants are running in ever diminishing circles and are about to disappear up their own arses.

        • Fairfax are going for a full court press here.

Fairfax Media, publisher of Stuff, last night laid a formal complaint with Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff about the repeated breaches of Vance’s privacy.

“Fairfax has no confidence in the way this matter is being handled and we feel we have to take the matter further,” group executive editor Paul Thompson said.

“This will include requesting, under the Privacy Act, a full account of how Andrea’s private information has been handled.

“The release of information detailing Andrea’s swipe card usage, telephone calls and emails to the Henry inquiry was highly inappropriate and intrusive. There has also clearly been an attempted cover up. This has all put enormous pressure on Andrea who has been unfairly targeted for doing her job,” he said.

“We hope the privacy commissioner will cut through the Government spin and provide Andrea with some redress.”

          • williamabong

Cut to the chase, Vance is a slimy bitch and with any luck this will sink her, Dunne is a complete fucking idiot and thankfully that is now out there for all to see, the public service is being shown for what it actually is, a bunch of incompetent Sir Henrys, and we should see some of the untouchables being given a taxi chit, a rubbish bag, and one hour to leave the building.
As for no confidence, it would fair to say that on a daily basis most intelligent kiwis have had no confidence in the Fairfax organization for a long time.

          • Salacious T Crumb

Slimy is right. Last time I checked, integrity wasn’t high on the list of requisites for News of the World reporters. As Bryce Edwards said in the NBR “Andrea Vance is looking like someone who lives in a glass house”.
It appears that the size of the stones is the only debatable point on this one.

          • Time For Accountability

So – upset about a small breach they now want to expose all the records to an inquiry.

That will include the full content not just the meta data.

Can anyone explain why Vance’s emails trough a public system are private?

            Own goal.
Fairfax and Vance are tainted forever.

          • Dave

Yeah right, Vance, ex News of the Word repeater, learnt her skills there, when they were OH YEAH, ILLEGALLY tapping the phones of politicians and celebrities.

Good opportunity for some TRUE investigative Journo to go trawling though her past to find some dirt. Nothing illegal, just a real hunt through anything public. Trawl through ex boyfriends, colleagues, find out all about her, she how she likes it.

She is nothing more than sucking scum, batting her eyelids and showing a bit of cleavage to try and get a story. In times gone by, she would have been labelled a Whore. I wont label her a Media Whore, others can make up their own mind. :)

    • LesleyNZ

      Yawn………………… boring.

    • Muffin

      Beyond boring.

    • Mr_Blobby

Well well the Troglodytes on this site shout me down when I offer a different perspective to the Whale Boy, this goes all the way to the top and it is starting to unravel.

Open your eyes and smell the coffee, what a bunch of lemmings.

The naked emperor stood in front of me but I didn’t look. I see nothing….nothing

      • We are all richer for you coming here.

        • AngryTory

          really?

no tolerance to lefties I say.

        • Mr_Blobby

Is that because you appreciate an alternative view or the way I have stirred up some of the commentators on this site. Like standing on, then kicking, a bees nest.

          • Bad__Cat

Thank you Mr Blobby for coming to this blog and confirming our opinions of the Left.

          • Polish Pride

You need guys like him here. It gives you a good dose of perspective and a little reality about when your govt screws up.
I have never seen people make so many excuses for shit their govts screw up than the some of the keyboard warriors on here.
Unfortunately for you fellas Mr Blobby often makes sane common sense comments on things that can be backed up with evidence. I know he’s a little more challenging than some of the previous lefties (Kosh etc.) but you just need to man up and deal with it. Simple.

      • Kimbo

        “Troglodytes”

        “shout me down”

“this goes all the way to the top”

        “it is starting to unravel”

        “Open your eyes”

        “smell the coffee”

        “what a bunch of lemmings”

“The naked emperor stood in front of me but I didn’t look”.

Just wondering – are you being paid for every cliché you can post?

      • Muffin

You’re just a broken record, but entitled to your view. As we are to avoid being labeled troglodytes for being a little less worked up about nothing

    • johnbronkhorst

Conspiracy theories aside. Have we received the resignation of the chief leaker of info. to the labour party…Do you think??

      • Pete George

That’s a good question. And the Winston leaker?

It seemed obvious from the resignation with token termination pay that Thorn was volunteering a quick and tidy exit for reasons greater than were known at the time.

We now know there were a number of other stuffups, perhaps that is all. Or maybe not. It seems lime there are a number of people involved with knowledge and opportunity to have leaked.

      • Polish Pride

Yes we can’t have open and transparent govt now can we. That’s just far too much to expect. You do know who your masters are supposed to work for right!??!

  • unitedtribes

In yesterdays trivia I was led to a story about killings in Mexico which led me on to a site listing the worlds failed states. It was interesting to see that of the 120 odd in the “most failed” list, almost all were Muslim, compared to none in the least failed list. Not surprising NZ was in the later list. This could change after the next election if MMP have anything to do with it.

    • Make sure you watch tonight’s 8:30pm video titled “I am a racist”

      • tarkwin

I see that poor racially abused taxi driver in Invercargill has had eight days off work due to stress and isn’t sure he’ll ever go back. What is happening to this country? We need soft cocks like him like we need Achmed Zaoui, who is incidentally in his own crap program about how stressful his life has been due to the NZ government asking too many questions. I wish both of them would fuck off and find a cave to live in in another country.

        • Bad__Cat

Now that his buddies have taken over, why doesn’t Achmed go back to Algeria and help them?

        • Polish Pride

What you think that this is the only BS incident and muppet this guy will have had to deal with driving a cab!?! Driving at night as he was it will be a very regular occurance.

    • AngryTory

It’s already changed in 199 and MMP had everything to do with it!

Imagine if our generals had the guts of the Fijian’s, and had say appointed Don Brash as PM in 1990. Can you imagine how much better NZ would be than it is today – after what is effectively 15 years of Clarkist communist policies?

  • conwaycaptain

    Kibblewhite must GO.
As has been said before on this site it aint the ballsup that gets you but the cover up.

  • Phar Lap

Spot the Dom post reporter creeping around and looking for a scoop. It is the one looking for the sympathy vote ,after being outed.,as the friend of the unelected list” green” party, always looking for something to whine about. Both birds of a feather.

    • LesleyNZ

Spotted – The faceless one – behind the gallery fence.

  • conwaycaptain

Photo looks like a meeting of MUNZ or Sheep Shearers Party

    • Tude

Nah, no self-respecting NZ Romney would have that vacant (David Bain?) stare. These has to be a herd of the oppressed from he EU end of the world.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Labour supporters waiting for direction from their master Sheep….

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Folks – One network news poll is coming out on Sunday. A copy has been leaked to Sheep already. Due to the Henry enquiry debacle, National has lost 5 points while Labour gains 5 points hence a 10 point gap closing. This poll will be a great boost to Sheep and Labourers.

    • cows4me

      You’re skipping your medication again.

    • worksux

Could very well happen. This gov is pissing thousands of fisher folk off with wanting to cut the rec limit to 3 fish a day, all the while, leaving the commercial sector alone. There are 9 voting adults in my family, always voted Nats. now none of us will vote them again.

      • Over fish?

No matter, health, education, crime… it’s the fish that does it?

      • rockape

I dont think any descission has been made, About 3 weeks before the end of submission time, I understand is there are 3 proposals ,one to increase the recreational quota. Submit and wait and see.

    • Phill

Yes…….It seems you lefties love leaks when the information is coming your way, but when anyone else does it, its the end of democracy and civil rights as we know it.
Media sources must be protected at all costs, unless the left can create some drama out of it in which case, fire at will!

    • link

Very interesting leadership poll on Q&A tomorrow morning tell sheep to keep his heart meds close by he will need them.

  • Col

If your idiot enough to get yourself into getting info, and giving info, tough shit really. Keep your nose clean and you should be ok. Waste of time and money.

  • Polish Pride

And you fellas still trust the Government – Incompetent, the lot of them
Don’t worry the same holds true when Labour is in the hot seat too.

    • williamabong

Bullshit, Helen either lied, pushed someone under the bus, or nobbled the enquiry to tbe point of being meaningless, oh, I forgot add starting a fire somewhere else tp deflect attention.

      • johnbronkhorst

Or was nowhere to be found….pushing mallard out to take the heat.
For mine…Labour will NEVER be forgiven for the electoral finance act, a genuine attempt to circumvent the democratic rights of citizens!!!
Many of those MP’s are STILL in parliament!!!

      • Polish Pride

Perhaps you both need to reread my comment and apply reading comprehension skills. This is part of what is wrong with the system. Rather than man up to the failings of the current Govt, like a bunch of little kids you try and divert attention to what the other side has done in the past.

It is not Left vs Right it is Them, you know those in Govt. working for all of us, you know we the people.
The system never gets fixed cause to many retards on both sides simply give their favourite side a pass when they screw shit up.
Again Govts and Govt departments (i.e. the people in them are incompetent much of the time) This is whether the Govt is National or Labour. Wise up for goodness sake.

  • Chiefsfan73

Jobs, economic growth, feel free to add to the list of things kiwis care about more than beltway crap.

  • LesleyNZ

Woo-hoo – watched The Nation (so boring until Steven Joyce came on). Rachel Smalley’s VERY aggressive – hand on hip throwing a hissy fit saying that SHE say which questions are to be asked. These journalists are so hypocritical and SOOOOOO defensive. Wonder if she is a friend of Andrea Vance’s? As hubby said – “Rachel Smalley is not very nice. Steven Joyce – you are a master!” Rachel Smalley is so absorbed in how she appears she loses all objectively as is evidenced by her petulant interview style. Andrea Vance (and Peter Dunne) need to apologise to US for all the money her actions are costing the taxpayer – just because she wanted to be the first to break a story. Some journalists have such massive egos. Whale – you have GOT to post the Rachel Smalley interview with Steven Joyce – and repeat the bit where she puts her hand on her hip. She got a GOOD spanking.

    • Salacious T Crumb

What a rude little talking head she is. Ask a question then interrupt as soon as the interviewee starts to answer.
She looks good on tv but those looks will go but our memories of her being a petulant, hypocritical twat will remain.

    • Bob

I just trust Joyce. He said in that interview that he believes Henry – and not the Dunne version of events. So Dunne is proved liar.

      • Hazards001

        Again!

    • cows4me

She needs a riding crop and I nice black uniform.

    • Polish Pride

“Andrea Vance (and Peter Dunne) need to apologise to US for all the money her actions are costing the taxpayer – just because she wanted to be the first to break a story”
This is exactly what I mean. Find a way to divert attention and give the govt a pass for fucking up. Unbelievable – well it would be if it weren’t such a common occurance on from punters on both sides of the political fence.

      • LesleyNZ

You are twisting here Polish Pride. No need to use the F word. I think you find that in time when you look back that John Key’s Govt has been one of the most successful Govts economically – steering us out of the worldwide recession and coping with all the natural disasters that we have had. It has not been an easy road these past few years.

        • Polish Pride

We came out of the recession s well as we did because we are an exporter of primary products that countries will always need.
What particular monetary policy are you pointing to that National implemented that kept us in the position we are?
Trimming the fat in the public service perhaps? Nope doubtful, as always under a National Government it will just have been replaced by fewer people earning twice as much – otherwise known as Contractors

          • LesleyNZ

Partially true. Monetary policy – By not borrowing excessively, very targeted spending and limited cutbacks, unlike the Australians who had a surplus and then their Labor Govt turned this surplus into a 30 billion dollar deficit and they are now beside themselves not knowing what to do. Who would have thought 5 years ago that today NZ is in a better position than Australia.

  • conwaycaptain

Come Monday JK will have gone ballistic and Kibblewhite will be HISTORY.
Datacom will lose the contract and it should be bought back in house so to speak.
The journos should be run their phones, computers etc entirely separate from Parliament so there is a distinct cut off between the two.

    • Anonymouse Coward

      Kibblewhite, who he?

      • Bob

He a nobody – just another soon to be casaulty of the John Key lead National disgrace government.

  • Anonymouse Coward

Sir Humphrey Appleby GCB, KBE, MVO, MA (Oxon) the fictional character in the TV series Yes Minister once observed leak enquiries were not about finding out who actually leaked.

Given the chaos surrounding the Henry enquiry maybe the Sir Humphrey wanabees in the Behive should order the box set of the series in order to learn from the old cynic.

    • conwaycaptain

That series was required viewing by Maggies Cabinet. It is so close to the mark to be uncomfortable.
If you think it is an “Old Boy’s Club” in NZ at the higher end of the Public Service it is NOTHING as compared to the Oxbridge and Old Public Schools mob in the UK.

  • tarkwin

My next crusade, Am I the only one who hates the latest Meridian ad? The one where Mr Wells rabbits on about how one in four children can’t afford shoes, a raincoat or breakfast. Fortunately Meridian is here to help by manufacturing a crisis and then fixing it all in the space of thirty seconds. I have two questions. Does Clint work for them? Do they sell power or propaganda?

    • LesleyNZ

Maybe I should leave Meridian and go back to Contact Energy.

      • Whanga_Cynic

Noooo, don’t do that. Phil (the Prat) Pryke is on their board.

  • Pete George

Monday May 20 – email contents requested
Tuesday May 21 – email contents sent
Wednesday May 22 – advise they can’t open the file
Thursday May 23 – seeking authorisation to access, still trying to open contents
Monday May 27 – whoops, no authorisation

    • Travis Poulson

Dunne will be loving this because it takes the focus off the unanswered question: what is he hiding?

      • Pete George

He tried to protect private communications, like everyone else.

The success of that is in doubt.

      • williamabong

Poor old Peter Dunne, this will turn out to be the most expensive blowjob he’s ever had.

    • Muffin

Again, who cares except reporters, and who gives a shit what they think.

      • Bob

John Key gives a shit – why else would he be spying on journo’s, ministers and anyone else they think is a problem for them.

        • Muffin

No he doesn’t, but did want to find out the leaker. Reporters are useless in this day and age.

  • rockape

I think this should not be underestimated. This is a big club to beat National with and as Labour and the media have zero traction anywere else they are going to use it for as long as possible. I just hope JK is as honest and smart as I think he is. This needs clearing up and the only way to do that is get it all out in the open as quickly as possible. I suspect the losers in the end will be Dunne who quite likely will have to resign Vance who is so keen to keep her emails secret that she has to have something to hide,at the very least she has become toxic and needs to look for a new career and I suspect there are some government officials that are seriously worried about their future. What Key cant do is let this carry on, it needs to be dragged out into the sunlight screaming and kicking. I suspect that the release of this latest info is designed to do just that.

    • johnbronkhorst

This is a grand opportunity for a mole hunt. Find the bastard / s that are leaking all this stuff to the media and labour.
I don’t believe they are leaking it to winnie, he’s just making shit up as usual!

      • GazzW

Rockape & John, I think that you are both correct. This circus is all leading toward a very messy ending and I fear that labour, the greens and the PSA moles are all going to be hoist with their own petard. There will inevitably be a lot of dirty pool played first.

      • LesleyNZ

Not all who work in Parliamentary Services vote National……………….. does make you wonder.

      • rockape

whack a mole day coming soon you think?

  • PlanetOrphan

This stuff with Snowden is cold war all over isn’t it ?
Might have to re-define spy to IT operator soon :-)

When the GCSB outsources it’s communications we know we’re in trouble ….

  • PlanetOrphan

Here’s one for all you beautiful dreamers …

The fact that our gravity well makes Photons visible (i.e slow them
down so we can see them) implies the distance between galaxies may be
much smaller than it would appear, and voyager-one may “blip” across the
distances much faster than we think or “appear to
    accelerate/decelerate”.

I.E. We may not even need warp drives :-)

PS The only trouble I have with this theory is the fact I’ve never met an Alien.

    • cows4me

I have my doubts about the Labia back benches.

  • rockape

The joke is that the press and the left are screaming for an enquiry. Well the truth lies in those emails. Now do they want the truth or do they wants privacy?
